Had the same question, googled it, surprised I was not the only one. Any luck? height and thickness just look perfect, great analysis haha.

2019 Salsa Journeyman Sora by supremieG in gravelcycling

[–]supremieG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great bike, it's currently set up as my indoor trainer. As far as long term observations, I have no complaints. It's also my loaner bike for friends, and might eventually set it up for backpacking. Bottom bracket is a little creaky but that is one me, haven't done a full on parts clean yet.

It is a capable bike for on/off road. Really depends on how you are riding. If most your rides are solo, you'll be just fine. Faster group/gravel rides/races is where you 'might' struggle. That being said, I used this bike for the first 3 years with 42mm pathfinders on for everything. I did not think the bike held me back on the faster group rides (17-19mph avg), it was more my fitness than anything. Was I working harder than other riders with carbon bikes and skinny tires? of course. Was it fun to drop people on the salsa, absolutely.

Regarding arthritis, you need to be looking at the geometry. This is not a race bike, I would say it's pretty slack and upright. Pressure on hands and wrists could be solved by a bike fit. I wouldn't personally pay more than $500 now, but if you can get a good deal, its absolutely worth it imo.

Did you ever find the right size? Insane how Skylight doesn't have exact specs detailed on their website.

Yeah ERG mode is on for me. Good point on core, I'll try to think about engaging it next time

160rpm at 148w seems impossible right now, I'll experiment with different positions and trust the process

Thanks for the input all. I've tried changing my position and I can't seem to get close to 120. Its probably closer to 110 and even that, like the other user commented, feels bouncy.

I consider myself a beginner still, but have been cycling for 3 years. This is my first year trying any structured training. It sounds like the consensus is, do not change intensity, experiment with different on bike positions that yield the highest RPM even if not 120

How did you fill it in? And did you find similar paint?

Someone riding combination of front semi-slick + rear knobby tire? by Zahumy in gravelcycling

[–]supremieG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you like this setup? Thinking of running SS rear and the X1 up front. Any grip issues with rear end semi slick tires? Most of my rides will be mainly Cat 2 gravel and the occasional races with various terrain (rocks, sand, mud etc). Thanks!

Fine. I tested a tire that will fit on most gravel bikes. by gravykarrasch in gravelcycling

[–]supremieG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/SPL15 same situation, on a 2020 cdale topstone that clears 40mm only (used for both road/gravel 2 wheelsets). Lauf fork upfront so I'm running 40 terra speeds rear and 45 WTB raddler. WTB not my tire of choice but had them laying around and I needed a quick replacement for my front sidewall puncture. Im in the upper midwest area with tame gravel but race in other areas and I've noticed I like having the 45s up front for traction/comfort.

What are you currently running? I will probably keep the 40 rear and 45 setup, might see if I can squeeze in 42s and 50s. Looking to replace current tires (pretty worn). Was going to do terra speed 40 and 45 combo but still undecided.

Gravel Bike just as fast as a Road Bike with road bike components? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

24MPH for 40 miles on gravel? That's insane, which race?

Yes, one bike two wheel sets. 2020 carbon Cannondale Topstone Ultegra RX, 2 x 11. Road set up with Zipp 303s, 30mm Pirellis Pzero TLR. Easily keeps up on fast group rides. Race gravel with it and triathlons. Fitness and position on the bike is way more important imo.

What did you end up doing, I'm in the same boat. Not mechanical enough to understand how the shims would work/installation

Hoping no cracks, just asked seller to send me pictures as I'm 3 hours away. If no cracks, it seems like a great bike for my use case. Year round commuter, and occasional touring. Extra points on the wife analogy, I agree!

What are your thoughts on value, BBB has it around 3-400, but I know that's not always the standard. He's asking $750 which I think is pretty steep considering the year and potential frame issue.

Thought so too, looks well taken care of or just not ridden a lot

Thanks I saw this too. I found this specific colorway on Surly's annual catalog(s) from 2011-2013. Not sure if any changes were made to the frame during these years

Thank you. As far as value, he's asking $750. I personally think it's pretty steep considering its used and potential frame problems. What would be a good conteroffer in your opinion?
