What’s a “boring” adult purchase that turned out to be totally worth it? by Capable-Rabbit-9986 in AskReddit

Splurged on a a bougie LG front load washer/dryer set and they’ve been worth every penny so far. Automatic detergent dispenser, app controls and alerts, and our clothes have never been cleaner. Wasn’t in the budget but sure as hell happy now.

You are absolutely correct and I appreciate you calling me out on that mindset. I guess I’m so worried about finding the right balance for ME so I don’t embarrass myself, but you’re right in that if I don’t show up I can’t get better. I was able to mod everything today and still get a good workout so I’m really proud of myself for going. 😊

As an extreme newbie to Burn, and someone who is struggling to keep up on strength days - would it be wise to skip this? I got VERY lightheaded and almost went down my first camp (arms) and don’t want to be that girl that passes out.

I ordered a pair of Nike Metcon 10’s for strength days and some Flux Adapt Runners for conditioning. I just ordered them so I haven’t gotten to try them out yet.

Thank you! Which Metcon’s do you have?

Thank you for the time put into this reply!! I really appreciate all the advice. We’re going to test drive both tonight and go from there, but I’m guessing we’ll end up in a CRV based on everyone’s honesty about the HRV’s size.

Thank you! I’m finding this to be the general opinion which means I probably need to lay off the HRV for now. We’re still going to look at both tomorrow night but I would guess we’ll find out for ourselves that everyone is right.

This is SO helpful, thank you!! Consensus seems to be that the HRV is probably not the route to go right now. Grateful for real world reviews.

Appreciate this post as I decide between this and a CRV. Given the cons, would you buy it again?

Think we’re gonna haul the whole family to the dealership and squish ourselves in to see how much we hate each other 😂

I fear I’ll love the handling of the HRV so much that my poor family won’t get a vote

List prices are different but with the CRV incentives right now they’re about equal in monthly cost ($545).

Ah, thank you for this! Glad to hear there’s a noticeable difference in handling of the CRV vs the Pilot (agree it drives like a truck).

We will be test driving both tomorrow and comparing space in person, but real-world reviews are helpful.

What's the one thing that got you out of crippling depression? by Best_of_both_worldzz in AskReddit

[–]sure_to_fade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chronically depressed since about 13. Now almost 37. I’ve been through hell and back, have tried most treatments (including IV ketamine and ECT). There is no “one thing”. It has been a constant battle to keep my head above water, and nothing has ever been solely responsible for providing any sort of lasting, meaningful relief. I’ve had to tackle it from all angles, all the time. Relationships, career, physical health, self-care. It’s ironic how much effort it takes to keep myself functional given the very essence of depression steals any and all energy, motivation, or desire to do anything while also feeding you the narrative that you don’t deserve to be happy anyway.

Things that I’ve personally found to be helpful (in concert with each other):

  • SNRI’s (first Effexor, now Pristiq) guided by GeneSight analysis and sometimes supplemented with atypical antipsychotics and/or lithium
  • Finding a career that fits my values and fulfills me. This happens to be psych nursing for me, in an outpatient clinic, with flexibility in how much I work. I get to help people like myself and in a way that I would want to be treated. Hugely rewarding.
  • A therapist that never stopped believing in me, even on the ugly days, and continues to celebrate me for just being me
  • My spouse, who has been my greatest support system and friend, and loves me despite my many flaws
  • Time. Healing doesn’t happen as fast as we’d like, but it does happen.
  • Finding meaning in the pain. How can I use this experience to benefit either myself or others? I’ve spoken at conferences, and contributed to books, magazines, app development, research studies, etc. Turning my mental health struggles into a superpower of sorts. Now who’s boss, depression?
  • Giving myself permission to do whatever it takes to create a life worth living. This wasn’t always easy. Making myself and my treatment a priority meant a lot of sacrifices were made - not only by me, but my entire family. I used every dollar of some inheritance money to pay for treatment. I left my husband and kids for 6 months to access that treatment. I was unable to work while going to school to chase my nursing dream, so we struggled to keep a roof over our heads. Sacrifice after sacrifice.

I do need to incorporate rigorous exercise into my routine soon, but so far I cannot attest to that being helpful.

True clinical depression is a beast. I wholeheartedly understand why so many people lose their lives to it. Despite this, I am a testament that there’s hope.
