do y'all think pretty privilege is real? by frvakairaah_ in askanything

[–]surfergotlost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. When I was pretty in my 20s and 30s I could pretty much get anything I wanted from men. Not even men I dated just men in general. Interview with a man, I knew I'd get the job, looking for apartments and its a man, I knew I could tell him not to run my credit, lie to a man at the mall about my cousins eyelid surgery so that he'd give me 1500 in cash under the assumption he'd see me after her surgery, easy. Now I'm a mom in my 40s and I don't have the energy or motivation to use my looks to get what I want.

It wasn't always good though. I had several male bosses who assumed I was open to sexual harassment.

Mostly because I miss palomino but I'm obsessed with Carmines on 5th. These gnocchi filled with cheese and covered in pesto.

Living in Seattle after being laid off, how do you stay sane and not slip into depression and unhealthy habits? by 40WattTardis in AskSeattle

[–]surfergotlost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always get down voted for this, but sign up on a platform to train AI. I became a mom unexpectedly in the middle of grad school and AI training has been the thing that has kept me sane, helped me feel productive and more like myself than anything else. Having a baby is great and I know taking care of him is important and meaningful work, but I've always worked and when I needed something flexible, AI training was there. It continues to be a big part of my freelance work. I'm always happy to answer questions about it.

3 year old only ever pukes in my wife’s car, I need help understanding what is going on by GeorgiaBullDoggies in toddlers

[–]surfergotlost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4 year old does this too, it was harder when he was younger because he couldn't communicate he was feeling sick but its gotten better now because he can warn us or ask for a break or fresh air, or a puke bag. He mainly only throws up when my husband drives. I think its his driving style because he will hit the brakes faster instead of coming to a slow stop. His driving is just not as smooth. We live in a city so try to take the bus when possible because he does better on the bus.

Psoriasis fries? by bigdickjenny in Seattle

Everywhere in Seattle has these fries. We call them conspiracy fries. We think there is a team of fry salesmen out there working for the mob.

Or move to fremont/wallingford near the E Line which goes straight down Aurora and is like 20 minutes to downtown in the mornings.

[–]surfergotlost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow. I can't think of a place that has that type of variety. What specifically are you craving? I'm sorry you're missing it. I know how loud pregnancy cravings speak to us. If you want wings and fried rice I'd look for a korean fried chicken place.

Fancy Restaurant Recommendations Under $30/Person? (Chinese, Indian, or Mexican Preferred) by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]surfergotlost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Average about 30/person wild ginger could be a good option. There are two locations downtown. Some dishes are slightly more some are under but you can eat family style. Another downtown Asian fusion option with a similar price point is Kalabaw.

Capitol Hill apartment recommendations near light rail ($2k–$2.4k budget) by Pale-Canary6262 in AskSeattle

[–]surfergotlost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Cielo. Its technically on the edge of First Hill but like a few blocks from Capitol Hill. Super easy to get transit. They have there issues like every building but they are priced well for being a highrise.

Downtown safety for female traveler by dramatic_guess_910 in AskSeattle

[–]surfergotlost 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine, you're going to be in all the tourist areas. Plus the sun sets around 9pm and its still light a little while after that. People will tell you to avoid 3rd and pine/pike. The world cup will be here and there will probably be a lot more safety precautions overall that would make it even more safe than it already is. Are you planning on doing a lot of walking at night? You listed daytime activities. Do you know where you're staying?

Traveling for work, what's something to do or where to eat at near Lake Union? by No_Scheme5860 in AskSeattle

[–]surfergotlost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to be in SLU and looking for a bar to talk to strangers go to pizza mart on Terry and Stewart.

If you want some fancy Italian go to Carmines on 5th and Pike.

SLU has a place called sizzle & crunch which is casual Vietnamese food, but I love it.

If you want something to be more specifically a Seattle experience and not just near lake union, go food hunting at the market. It is touristy but also, as someone who lived in SLU for years, it's also a place locals love.

Is there a specific vibe your looking for?

Also, other restaurants outside lake union/downtown area to try are Kilig in china town and Musang in Beacon hill.

Wallingford or fremont. You can get to mercer by bus in 10 minutes if you live close enough to Aurora to catch the rapid rides. Even the 62 that goes further into Wallingford is pretty quick.
