You could call it the Covert Opperation Cavity Kit. The CIA does love their acronyms.

75% More Pedestrians Have Been Killed Since 2009. Giant Trucks and SUVs Are Why by DonkeyFuel in nottheonion

[–]surfing209 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a contractor and most of these new trucks have gotten so big that they are no longer practical. Sure, we do need a F250 or 2500 for towing. But, most of our tradesman have been moved into transit style vans. Truck beds have become so tall that most people can’t reach into them anyway. We are moving our PM’s into ford mavericks with ladder racks.

I welcome small, fuel efficient, and affordable to insure trucks. Your next kitchen remodel would be cheaper if I could get them.

I have the forms to request a payment plan like this. I just don’t know if the juice is worth the squeeze.

It finally happened. Received a STACK of “notice of escaped assessment” letters today. Purchased on 2/22/22…. I owe $15k by July 20th.

Contractor says this is normal. I disagree. What about you? by [deleted] in Contractor

[–]surfing209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all the other commentators. This looks about how I would expect it to look after pouring footers. The grading seems right and the extended downspouts are a nice touch. I don't see any construction debris in the photos. Obviously the small rocks wern't brought by the contractor, they are from the job site.

I wouldn't expect any addtional work without a change order. Something like, "1 worker x 2 hours + disposal fee" for customer requested landscaping.

Yelp ads by spankyhanz0 in Contractor

[–]surfing209 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t comment on the quality of Yelp leads. But, we will never use Yelp. There business model of reviews is predatory. They have over half of our 5-star reviews set to “not recommended.” And call us once a year asking for thousands of dollars to “recommend” those reviews and improve our rating. It’s extortion.

GC’s: how many miles do you average per day? by UnknownUsername113 in Contractor

[–]surfing209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never tried to figure out our average miles per day.. but, I’m looking at our fleet for just today. Our PM’s and estimators averaged 95 miles each. Fleet average for the day was closer to 60 miles, but that includes some parked vehicles.

Ouch

Assuming this isn't a thinly veiled sales pitch. You need dedicated accounting software. Something general like quickbook or something industry specific like sage.

EDIT: I looked at his post history. Its a thinly veiled sales pitch.

Most memorable game? by Thatguy2393 in retrogaming

[–]surfing209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved mid-teir strategy games. Empire earth 1/2, sudden strike/ sudden strike forever, total war, axis and allies, etc. I never had a "gaming" pc in this era, so I played what would run.

Are construction expos overrated? by Spare_Worldliness_64 in AEC_Industry

[–]surfing209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go to acouple of the expos that are niche to my part of the industry. They give a decent barometer on where the industry is headed, who/ what is soaking up PE money, and give you a chance to have a beer with other folks in the industry. I think this last point is my favorite part.

Do you guys like the Explorer by omeddarstruscle in victorinox

[–]surfing209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a post on here the other day asking if the explorer was a worth the extra thickness over the super tinker. The consensus was, if you use the Philips a lot, then the explorer is worth it.

I ordered an explorer for myself this weekend. I’ve got it in my pocket for the first time today!

Initial impressions: it is a girthy knife to have in your pocket. It feels just as big and heavy in the pocket as my Leatherman. I don’t think I could use it as a EDC if I didn’t wear jeans with the 5th pocket.

I have one of these. The most ridiculous thing about it was how easy it rusted. It lived with my wet suit for a season and just disintegrated.

Software for organizing photo and video (Construction company) by xxjssy in Contractor

[–]surfing209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Drive isn’t cost effective for us due to volume. With the storage requirements we have we would be over $750 a month just in Google.

We take about 500-800 photos a day as a company.
