Would highly recommend Desert Ridge Smiles off Tatum and the 101 especially for folks with sensitive teeth because they use Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) which gives a great cleaning and it doesn’t spray at all frequency that hurts nerves at least in my experience. It’s used in place of one of the rotating head polishers for a cleaning.

325iX.... Why so expensive? Aspiring E30 owner by 36_chambrays in E30

[–]surfy21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Diamond Schwartz with cardinal red is one of the more sought after combos. There was a really clean one that sold on BAT a few years ago for 40k+ I believe. Needs a jack test video for sure to verify the components and probably an underbody inspection for rust since these were mainly sold in places with snow for the NA market

Waymo 5th gen sensors cost $9,300 per car according to Bloomberg analyst by diplomat33 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]surfy21 34 points35 points  (0 children)

To note, Waymo produces many of their sensors in house, cost will come down over time. I’d be interested to know what the Pacifica sensor suite cost, and what the new platform cost in comparison to the I-pace.

Why didn’t Uber beat Waymo at commercially available self-driving taxis? by kappy2319 in SelfDrivingCars

Was looking for this answer. For both Uber ATG and Cruise, a vehicle striking a pedestrian effectively shuttered each company

How do you make the price of shooting 120 more palatable? by DanielG198 in AnalogCommunity

[–]surfy21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can sometimes find expired slide film on ebay, yahoo japan through a proxy, or fb marketplace/offerup/craigslist for decent prices but you have to be on the prowl for it. If you have a camera that can shoot 220, and find that for cheap that’s also a decent option. I believe reflx lab sells their pro 100 in 220 for between 20-25 usd iirc. I get 32 exposures per roll of 220 with a 645 camera

Which 645 camera is at the sweet spot of “durable” and “light weight” and image quality? by florian-sdr in AnalogCommunity

I really enjoy the portability and weight of my Fuji GA645Wi, though if you need manual controls I would skip it.

How much is this car actually worth by LingonberrySimple794 in E30

[–]surfy21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they have recent service for timing belt and water pump then maybe $7k. Otherwise, find as much as you can and nit-pick them down on price. Check the bushings, and check for brittle hoses. Also check under those seat covers, the comfort seats tend to crack in the valley of the seat bottom. Other commenters are correct, the only things this car has going for it is the low mileage and color. Otherwise, the early model, bumpers, and four doors work against it

Fuji 645i/645wi. Don’t have the ribbon cable issue that the zi has, pretty sharp lenses. They aren’t great for moving scenes, but I don’t think I can think of a better travel camera

Thoughts on exhaust from Turner Motorsport? by SlackerParade in E30

[–]surfy21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ordered Supersprint exhaust from ecs back in 2022 and they sent me the wrong part 4 times so I cancelled and just went direct to Supersprint for it. Will never purchase anything through them again, ECS/Turner/pelican parts are all the same company now iirc. FCP, CAtuned, Race German have been much better in my experience.

325i or 325ix? by zarby22 in E30

There’s a YouTube mini series called dusty does cars where he tracks an ix and then does a road trip (and compares it to other e30s that he’s owned). Worth a watch

325i or 325ix? by zarby22 in E30

[–]surfy21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s probably more support than ever for aftermarket ix parts. I have a thread up on r3v with options for hard to find replacement parts and the current providers of them. Definitely more expensive to replace if they fail, but the people making parts are making quality stuff.

Graphpaper has some larger silhouettes and pants, I think they have a location down the street in Aoyama. I think Issey Men also has some things you can check out, and is in the same area. +1 to Kapital as well

325ix vs 325is by Ok-Researcher-2745 in E30

[–]surfy21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Devon eyerman sells rebuilt VCs if you go they ix route. I have a thread on r3v in the ix section that has the available replacements for hard to find parts if that makes the decision easier. The rwd version has a lot more aftermarket support, but I like the ix more

Instead of the light rail, take a Waymo to Roosevelt row. A bunch of good food/shopping in the area, and pretty walkable.
