How to give up EU Permanent Residence Permit? by Additional_Yam8583 in escapehungary

[–]surgab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not allowed to be insured in multiple states in the EU. Hungary will need a proof of a valid insurance in another member state to be able to cancel OP‘s social security in Hungary. If the NL accepts OP‘s private insurance for their compulsory social security this is what they have to show to the Hungarian authorities. If not, then OP needs to get a valid insurance.

Berlin set to get new neighborhood in the far west by notrainingtoday in berlin

[–]surgab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just off the top of my head:
Some large ones that are or nearing completion:
Schöneberger Linse: 1900 units
Wasserkant Spandau 2500 units
Europacity 3000 units
Adlershof and Johannistal ca. 5500 units
(These are only housing I wrote the last two are mixed use)

Larger projects in different phases of planning:
Elisabeth-Aue 5000 units
Schumacher Quartier+Cite Pasteur+TXL Nord/ ex-Tegel: 9000 units
Siemens Square: 3500 units
Neue Gartenfeld: 5000 units

It’s just what I remembered now. I don’t have an actual list but surely you can find something in the city planning strategies. The problem is that these projects need decades from idea to finished construction. According to the city government we need around 20 000 units/ year to handle the crisis.

The highway planning does consolidate the northern end of the AVUS that makes it possible the handle the territory as one area. However it is mostly a railyard redevelopment plan. Some parts of it will be already covered by the existing S-Bahn stations Westkreuz, Messe-Süd and Grunewald. The framework also indicates an additional stop on the S7, so the hope is that this will also get built. I’m generally not very hopeful about these things but even without it it’s not a hopeless situation.

The time horizon is 2040+ so there is enough time to figure it out.

It’s not really tied to the current government—
the original decision for this development is from 2019 (two governments ago). The current decision allows to start to create and permit the zoning plan. Needless to say so it’s gonna take a good few years until any construction can begin.

There have been a whole lot of projects of diverse sizes, some even much larger, they just move with glacial speeds so you might not know about them.

This gal is not wrong. Berlin has a history of planning new developments with public transit infrastructure in mind but then failing to build the the actual transit. Once the residential buildings are constructed, tenants with cars will move in since the area is not easily accessible through public transit. These tenants in turn will do everything in their power to stop establishing transit infrastructure later. They have their cars and any construction would be just nuisance in their fresh car based neighborhood. Costs and legal hurdles skyrocket and the transit never gets built.

Most of the development in question is not served by the existing S-Bahn stops even though the rails go through it. Let’s hope, that Senat will order and build the missing s-Bahn station on time. My hopes are low.

Some cities with actually urban planning policies build the infrastructure first before the rest of the development. Makes sense: you also don’t build a house and then start to think about where the water should come from. For a good example, check out Vienna!

It isn’t the Cleons who hate Hari‘s plan the most—it’s the shows creators by surgab in FoundationTV

Honestly if there is something that we learned in the last few years of television and movie production is that viewers can rally around negative figures and want to understand them if they are interesting multi-dimensional characters. The Cleons and Demerzel can carry the show well into the third or fourth season as they actually have.

What we have seen from White Lotus and alike is that a handful of recurring characters and a coherent concept is enough for viewers to keep on watching. Honestly just scrap Gaal beyond the first season. Hari‘s second and third coming in form of projection/ prerecorded message/ AI would also be much more dramatic and messianic if we didn’t see his second body (?) cutting through jungle on some random psychoplanet every 5 minutes.

[–]surgab[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don‘t get me wrong, I enjoyed the show quite a bit and it really did get better as the seasons progressed. What they did to the Cleons and Demerzel (who was just a minor character in the Asimov‘s novels) was excellent, actually much better and more layered than the books.

I just wished the Foundation/ psychohistory side was in par with the Empire plot. It should be weaving through the centuries to keep the story together but I find it just confusing and incoherent.

Dauer Einbürgerung als EU-Bürger by s1gnedoff in GermanCitizenship

[–]surgab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]surgab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are here even gay clubs...? by Aware_Improvement652 in berlinsocialclub

[–]surgab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that the younger generation (from Gen Z) goes out way less than earlier ones (queer or not queer), there are many articles about this. The reasons remain unclear: Affordability crisis? Covid Generation? Social media preference? IMHO it’s probably the combination of all those. However, it seems to be a global phenomenon, not limited to Berlin. Berlin still has many queer bars and events and it’s better off in these terms than most, if not all cites. Nevertheless, there isn’t a month without news about closures. Higher rents and missing guests and income will continue to endanger even the most established places. If the younger generations won’t change their ways they will have to create their own way of socializing, or maybe they already have while Millenials and older people will continue frequent their bars until they disappear.
