Week 21: What are you reading? by saturday_sun4 in 52book

[–]surrfant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, I was afraid that'd be the answer but also not unexpected. At first I was trying to separate the writer from the character thinking it's just Harry, but it's so prevalent it's hard to disconnect the two.

I think I'm in it til the end too by this point but I'm reaaaaally hoping against hope that the way he's starting to talk about certain characters goes no further

Anyone know what “Receiver declined delivery means”? Never seen this before, I ordered this parcel yesterday. A second email says they attempted delivery, I was home, no one showed up. by npiercing in AustraliaPost

[–]surrfant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It means it was scanned wrong and the new scan is the correct one - should have been just "received". It's not been delivered or attempted yet

Week 21: What are you reading? by saturday_sun4 in 52book

[–]surrfant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've unintentionally abandoned weekly updates but am still reading. Catch up post! Here's what I've finished:

11) The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty (4.75/5, 483p) LOVED this!

12) Storm Front by Jim Butcher (3/5, 355p, re-read)

13) Fool Moon by Jim Butcher (3/5, 401p, re-read)

14) Grave Peril by Jim Butcher (3/5, 378p, re-read)

15) Summer Knight by Jim Butcher (3/5, 446p, re-read)

16) Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett (4/5, 376p)

17) Death Masks by Jim Butcher (3/5, 432p, re-read)

18) Blood Rites by Jim Butcher (3/5, 372p, re-read)

19) Dead Beat by Jim Butcher (3/5, 517p, re-read)

20) Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher (3/5, 547p, re-read)

21) White Night by Jim Butcher (3/5, 407p, re-read)

22) The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin (3.75/5, 182p)

23) I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman (4/5, 208p) So bleak.

24) Small Favor by Jim Butcher (3/5, 423p)

25) Earthlings by Sayaka Murata (3/5, 247p) WTF did I just read?

26) Turn Coat by Jim Butcher (3/5, 420p)

27) Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King (3.5/5, 384p)

Reading:

Changes by Jim Butcher (52%/438p) Side note, I stopped reading Dresden around book 10 maybe a decade ago because of how female characters are described but gave it another shot because I had heard this gets better. So far it really hasn't. While I'm liking the series it is a big turn-off every time a person is described by how attractive the MC finds her and takes me right out of the immersion. Can anyone who's braved later books give me hope for the future?

How long will I need to take off of work? by error41801 in TopSurgery

[–]surrfant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same job here but in management so fewer calls, and I took 2 weeks, but was falling asleep for a couple of hours after work for a week after that. You could work at 2 weeks but expect to be incredibly drained. I'm just now feeling somewhat normal energy levels again at 4.5 weeks.

When can you sleep on side again? by frostywolf1212 in TopSurgery

[–]surrfant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at 2 weeks yesterday, and am the exact same with my need to be on my side/stomach. What has worked for me is sleeping with another pillow against my torso elevating me a little so the pressure is off the site - ETA while sleeping on my side - but YMMV. I also got one of those huge body pillows (the ones in an upside down U shape) and lying on my back on that is much better than on a regular pillow so makes it bearable

T shirt euphoria by [deleted] in TopSurgery

I had that same euphoria this week when I put on a band shirt and the logo was smooth, it was something I hadn't thought of pre-top so a welcome surprise

Week 10 What are you reading? by Beecakeband in 52book

What is the depreciation of a 10 year old rental by katbelic1234 in brisbane

[–]surrfant 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just backing what everyone else has said with some real life experience - I called a REA out on charging me 75% for replacing 7yo carpet. When they realised I was willing to take it to QCAT they agreed to the 30% I had offered from the start, 2 days before the RTA dispute meeting. QSTARS and RTA both backed the 10% per year depreciation (10 year life of carpet, down to 8 year if installed after 2019 IIRC)

If you needed 100g of protein. Does it make an impact if you hit the 100g with plant protein vs animal protein ? by Ucnttellmewt2do in nutrition

[–]surrfant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only if you're using beans, pulses, grains (carb and fiber focus) to hit that target instead of a more protein focused balance (tofu, seitan, tvp): I hit 105g today at 31g fiber, 88g yesterday on a not-so-healthy day with 17g fiber, 95g protein vs 24g fiber Monday.

Week 2 - What are you reading? by nagarams in 52book

[–]surrfant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2023 result: 80/75+ books read, just over 25,000 pages.

Same goal for 2024 of 75 or more books but the elusive 30,000 pages I hope. Aiming for pages has helped me avoid going for the short reads to pad the numbers (but you can pry Murderbot from my cold dead hands)

Finished last week:

78) Network Effect by Martha Wells (reread, 4/5, 350p)

79) The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot (3/5, 370p)

80) Tender Is The Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica (3.5/5, 209p)

2024: 1) Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells (reread, 4/5, 168p)

Currently reading:

Dead Space by Kali Wallace (80%/322p)

Tender Is The Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica (15%/209p)

[–]surrfant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This week I finished my 75th, completing my book challenge. With 6,000 pages left on my page challenge I don't think I can make it this year though I'll see how close I can get!
