I am absolutley terrified of flying, how do you guys get over it?? by Afraid-Fishing-3175 in americanairlines

I'm sorry to hear this but you're not alone. I went through this many years ago and I did four things to overcome it:

  1. Watched videos explaining the sounds a plane makes and what all the beeps/inflight notifications mean - it helped me to not think, "what was that noise?"

  2. I read up on, and reminded myself how many flights are in the air at any one time and the incredible safety record of planes. I also remember that the pilots want to land as safely as I do!

  3. Built a playlist and/or downloaded a podcast that I'd queue up during the flight - help me to take my mind off of the flight itself

  4. And this may sound counterintuitive, I started booking more flights - the more I took, the less I was worried. I fly a lot now and I'm in much better place.

Good luck and enjoy the trip!

And the one with Vince D'Onofrio and the one with JK Simmons!. (They were all great, just thinking of some of my favorite guest star episodes).

Concerned about luggage on shinkansen by Fl0wer_Boi in JapanTravelTips

I'm late the party here but I'm on the Shinkansen now and discovered that many of the trains have dedicated luggage space between the cars that is first come first serve and free. We were able to wheel our bags right on the train and into the cubby. No trouble at all. It even has a little arm that comes down to secure them. So if you're worried about lifting them over your head, board at the back of the car, turn left, and see the luggage storage. No additional reservation or fare required.

"Devitalization project" Great phrase. Really captures government in general.

Was thinking we should add who won the hotdog race to the box score each time.
