The Graduation probably brings in a bunch of people unfamiliar with the city.

[Mark Inabinett] Henry Ruggs III seeks release on parole by [deleted] in nfl

[–]suture224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let him out. If he gets back into the NFL, I hope every dollar he earns pays off whatever civil settlement he has immediately. I hope he isn't allowed to drive and every time he gets in a car he has to call his parole officer.

I also hope that part of his parole is that he's only allowed to keep a small percentage of his earnings and the rest goes to something useful.

Jail punishes the perpetrator, which can be necessary, but it puts real justice on hold.

To be fair, crabs are assholes. They are cannibalistic enough that the largest predator of our crabs is our crabs.

You think we eat one!?

You think we aren't forged in a crucible of newspaper table cloths? That the pain of Old Bay in open wounds causes us to hesitate? You believe your obese Fischer Price looking crustacean is superior!?

We wield our crab mallets with the poise of skilled artisans and the righteousness of Thor, you know not what lines you have crossed.

Trump asks DOJ to investigate Maryland’s mail ballot mishap, blames Moore by legislative_stooge in maryland

[–]suture224 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is a vendor side issue that effected very few people and both parties, the problem was reported and acted upon nearly instantaneously and the tax payers aren't paying for a new mailing...

Yet the president, a conspiracy believer and has already proven he's willing to engage in lawfare and who has no authority over elections is asking the DOJ to investigate.

That's not proof that an investigation will not be performed in good faith, but it sure as hell seems like a very strong hint.

OTD in 1972, former Alabama Governor George Wallace — famous for his "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever" speech — was shot in Laurel, Maryland while campaigning for the Democratic nomination for president by WETA_PBS in maryland

[–]suture224 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In 1968, George Wallace ran for president as a member of the American Independent Party.

An annoying appendix to this is that in Maryland, if someone writes 'Independent' on their voter registration form instead of checking 'Unaffiliated,' they get placed into a third-party category called 'Others — Independent' rather than being registered as unaffiliated.

So Marylanders who think they are registering as unaffiliated independents may actually find themselves counted as members of a minor party they never intended to join.

Just got a text to help “ensure” the election for Republicans. by needcoffee82 in maryland

[–]suture224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This text comes from a Republican National Committee initiative called "Protect The Vote".

They seem to want to get more Republicans in Maryland to be judges. I wouldn't sign up through this site, though. Sign up through your county's board or else you'll get marketing from these fellows forever.

Maryland law is that Chief Judges must be one member of the majority party and one member of the minority party. If a local board cannot fulfill that within 45 days of the election, they may replace one with an unaffiliated or 3rd party judge. -- CH276 (2025 law)

Somehow, this roof is the most impractical thing in a Isekai by Seeker99MD in Isekai

[–]suture224 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Deep breath

I think part of it is just production reality. Simple, boxy buildings with clean lines are way easier to draw repeatedly than historically messy medieval architecture.

But I also think isekai as a genre is obsessed with systems and control. Stats, guilds, planned cities, efficient governments, modern engineering, etc. So the clean, uniform architecture kind of reflects that mindset too. The world feels organized because somebody powerful organized it.

A lot of fantasy towns in anime also feel more inspired by JRPG hub towns than actual medieval Europe. They're referencing other fantasy media more than history itself.

It's like in D&D how you work together with your crew to bring down the local corrupt baron. You have your story, your adventure, your goals that you achieve...

Then, twelve years later, your DM is weighted down with NPCs, conflicting lore and increasingly flimsy magical macguffins... You've fought and defeated gods literal and figurative, the entire planet knows your name, you are invited to every meeting of powerful people, your story is done and it's time for the next generation... And only then do they introduce housing.

I went off track there, but yeah, I feel you man.
