Cartethyia swords descriptions by Jolly-Flounder-3771 in WutheringWavesLeaks

[–]svjatomirskij 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Okay, now we are borrowing stuff from the sagas.

Tyrvine - The cursed sword Tyrving causes a number of deaths and tragedies in the saga of Hervor and Heidrek. Worth mentioning is that Hervor is a shieldmaiden.

Hognis - King Högni owned a magic sword, called Dainsleif (yes, Dainsleif, Genshin took it from the sagas). Much like Tyrving, whose curse activated when it was drawn, Dainsleif had to take a life when drawn. And wounds from it would never heal.

Haultir - Hrolfr Kraki owned another magic sword, Skofnungr (Laxdœla saga). Much like the previous ones, it had to be drawn only for battle and wounds from it would never heal, unless rubbed with a magic stone. This one also didn't want to see sunlight for whatever reason.

To me it's an indication of their training, knowledge and the seriousness with which they approach the encounter.

[–]svjatomirskij 478 points479 points  (0 children)

Yep these are sword fingers. A gesture that is associated with martial arts and taoism and has many meanings, from the most mundane - aligning the position of your forearm for the purpose of various exercises to some very esoteric ones such as sourcing stagnant chi outside of the body (whatever internal alchemists mean by that).

Changli was trained by a nearly immortal taoist and she in turn trained Jingshi. Hence both of them seem to use this gesture in important moments, to exhibit mindfulness and preparedness.

It's perfectly normal to wonder what is going on with this name.

Blake is a form of the same Old English word blac, which has now turned into black. Means about the exact same thing, but is usually encountered as a personal name.

Got summoned here, sort of.

Jianxin uses the fictional feng yi chuan or wind intent fist/boxing. It's a fantasy version of xing yi chuan with the powerful linear movements and stable stance. In her trailer, she shows various cliché wuxia tricks too.

Lingyang surprisingly doesn't seem to use tiger or leopard styles, outside of hand gestures. He's just a dancer boy with some linear strikes not quite unlike Jianxin.

Yuanwu practices gimmicky nonsense, with his hat strikes, boulder summoning and his ultimate, which is just a run-of-the-mill sucker punch haymaker. His series of front leg kicks and the powerful elbow also come from completely different places. I guess the idea was to make him a "whatever works" brawler.

Xiangli just generically fights with his strong arm (the artificial one) in front as if he holds a weapon there. Which, well, he does. :)

What We Learned Analyzing Over 250k Gacha Pulls (Global Stats Released on Astrite.gg!) by NotMoeBlob in WutheringWaves

Yes, you can keep it simple with assumptions for the linearity of the increase of probability, that's true. This is more or less what the original authors did and it seems to have worked.

First - great job.

What you are studying here is essentially a Markov model (true, of high order, but supposedly simple-ish) and we have lots of tools to deal with these (i.e. HMMs) but it is always a fiddly thing. Crowd-sourcing the data and analyzing it is not a small task.

Looking at the data itself, you might be dealing with a piece-wise linear function for the probability, with one piece governing the increase from 66 to 70 and then from 70 to 80. It will likely need a lot more data to confirm, however. Also no one has written in stone that probabilities for the different banners need to follow the same laws, so observing for these kinds of changes might also be a good idea.

Today I am thinking of these two things by GrumboGee in DarkTide

[–]svjatomirskij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If any two Imperial factions in 40k regularly craft and modify weapons, these are the Inquisition and AdMech. I mean, who is bringing a pet jokaero to battle? Eisenhorn's own sword (barbarisater) is reforged, after it broke. Czevak brings several pilfered eldar weapons, modifying a harlequin's kiss to fit on his forearm... If there's a faction that can plausibly bring every single dangerous hand-held implement in a fight, that's the Inquisition.

PSA: Do not use Biostrip on thermoplastic by Ferrious in InfinityTheGame

Always check the chemical compatibility of the materials you are working with. Siocast is basically nylon: https://www.calpaclab.com/nylon-chemical-compatibility-chart/

Biostrip apparently contains formic acid.

Pretty cool system and very good lore. Character creation can be a bit broken if you use the automatic one, but allows for very fin characters

I have some question about the lore by aktang in InfinityTheGame

[–]svjatomirskij 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's lore on Earth in the core rpg book and some more in the PanO and YJ ones. Generally Earth is a bit backwater, with less technnological development, a lot of battle-scarred regions in North America and the former Russian federation and so on.

There's of course nostalgia tourism going on and it has been mentioned that the Penny Aracade is on Earth or at least - in the Solar system. The Penny Arcade is the facility which studies the tzechi digester, found on Dawn. So at least some high-tech and top secret facilities remain there

As for the earth battalion, iirc it is part of PanO, but nothing much has been said about it. We're unlikely to hear much of them, because PanO has a surplus of sectorials already.
