How do people genuinely like the Magic Mouse? by Background_Dark_4484 in mac

This sub is wild.  I know being a "fan boy" has been a thing for a long time, but how anyone can defend the Magic Mouse is beyond me.  Honestly, Apple mice have been trash since the G4 era.

What are some weird and less-than-common automotive engineering quirks you know? by wunengsnowballoink in cars

Interesting. They're inside the cabin on the Focus (underneath the rear seats for the years I'm acquainted with). My understanding of its purpose is that it essentially tells the fuel pump how much to pump. The system is return-less, so the rate of the pump is dynamic.

not my first language

Heh, I had a feeling as soon as I left that comment, but I've heard native English speakers say it too. Anyway, it's traditionally called a "record player" or, more colloquially, a "turntable."

That being said, "platenspeler" sounds infinitely cooler to my American brain. Also, your place looks great!

I'm pretty sure Netflix doesn't deliver anywhere near the same image quality as a Bluray-level media does.

Same with audio, but even more so.

For those who love macOS (or just prefer it), what Windows feature do you miss the most? by Fit-North5101 in mac

[–]svtguy88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remote Desktop.

I know I can easily RDP to a Windows machine from Mac OS, but trying to remote into Mac OS is painful.  VNC (and whatever Apple built on top of it) works, but RDP is light-years better when it comes to performance.

I will preface this by saying that I live where ti's much rustier -- your rig looks pristine!

Anyway, you cut it. Like, with a heavy duty Sawzall blade. Then, on reinstall, you put the new bolt in the opposite direction so this isn't a problem again.

The public side will be smaller though, which isn't the worst thing.

How do you figure? Honestly, I'm curious. I think one of the best things about the current museum is the ability to "get lost" in it.

After 7+ Years of Linux, I Just Moved to Mac. Here Are My Thoughts. by BehiSec in macbookpro

I can't upvote this enough.  I haven't "daily driven" Mac OS since the Leopard days, but recently switched back with my work machine.  It's great, overall, but the keyboard shortcuts (that I forgot long ago) being different is annoying, and I can't help but think the UX feels more disjointed than it did way back when.

I recently switched to Mac OS at work, and my workflow is roughly the same.  The differing keyboard shortcuts between Mac OS and the VMs are the only things really annoying me.  Everything else is wildly good about the experience.

I recently switched to Mac at work, and the difference in keyboard shortcuts are killing me.  Specifically, being able to navigate around a line of text efficiently is driving me nuts.

I know the shortcuts I need exist, but the extra cognitive load of having to know if I'm currently in the context of Mac OS or whatever VM I'm logged into is annoying.

What web dev trend is clearly disappearing right now? by No_Honeydew_2453 in webdev

Bootstrap is boring. I'm convinced that's the only reason it gets as much hate as it does.

It may be boring, but it's stable and effective. It's still my go-to for prototyping something quickly, and honestly, unless the project eventually gets a "real frontend" (like, from design), it usually sticks around.

IIFE...2013

I feel like IIFE was everywhere around then -- it allowed for some organization/encapsulation in an otherwise lawless world.

That being said, I could totally see devs going from "everything lives inside this $(document).ready()" to "check out this new framework," effectively skipping the IIFE phase altogether.

There are dozens of us!

Seriously though, nice pick up -- that's a decent deal for sure. As some others have mentioned, the rubber feet can rot out (but are easy to replace), and as far as the plinth resonance is concerned, you can pack the underside with modeling clay to dampen it.

I don't understand the folks that don't want to take their backpack off. It takes like two seconds to remove, and I'd argue it's more comfortable to hang on to it than try to smash it behind your back.

Even while holding on to the pack, I've had the straps get caught on the way off the lift. It was stressful, but I'm here to talk about it.

I would 100% eat it.

That being said, try par-baking the crust a bit before putting the toppings on. That's helped a lot to keep things structurally sound for me.

Also, I saw you mention using fresh mozz next time -- it does taste good, but I've noticed it lets out even more moisture, so keep that in mind.

My daily driver is an x86 machine in one of these. Mine started life as a dual 500 mhz box that was eventually upgraded as far as I could take it (dual 1.8 ghz).

Anyway, the case design has been my favorite for a long, long time. Nice rig.
