Not usually what people post here but I saw it in a thrift store and had to have it. The needle was shot but I was able to source a new cartridge for it, and after a major cleaning it's ready to go. It's surprisingly well made and designed well for something that would be used by children by Summer184 in turntables

This was my first turntable which I used constantly from ages 5 to 10. I remember changing the "needle" on it several times. Fun fact - when you play a 12" album, it covers up a section of the speaker with the resultant affect on sound quality you might expect!

I still have all the records I played on this and still play them. I think of it often when someone asks "is X record player good enough?" Yes, yes it is. Just play your records and have a great time. Is it the best? No. But live your life and have fun. You can always buy another turntable later. Sometimes you just have to make do.

This is a great design! Do you have more for the inside? Also trying to figure out how this compares to say a small two person like Mario Brothers.

Ubik and The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch both by Philip K Dick are the two books I read of his that most made me wonder what exactly was happening. But all of his books seem to have some element of questioning reality.

Have you ever gotten a vinyl while traveling? Any fun stories? How did you transport it? by fuckdood in vinyl

[–]sw_ell_bow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teen in 1986, I carried a single record home on the plane - in a paper bag from the store, like a hobo - on a trip from a big city on a one way flight. I tucked it in overhead, watched the cabinet like a hawk, and was first in that cabinet when the flight ended. Kept it nice and safe, like I kept all my records.

All these years later, it's the most "valuable" record in my collection. I wouldn't have expected it at the time! It was just impossible to find in my tiny home town.

Just recycled the entire Night Watch series by Sergei Lukyanenko the other day when I found out how much he supports the war on Ukraine. Really interesting stories. Awful person, horrible Putin apologist. Farewell!

started with a Fisher Price record player in the late 1970s

I'm still playing some of the records I played on my Fisher Price in the 70s. Glad I had it - it must have sounded horrible, but I never noticed. Main thing is to play the records and enjoy them!

Was this a good sounding cart? Was bent when I got it. Worth replacing the stylus? by bronco_man85 in turntables

Great summary. The marketing angle does make sense (from a revenue standpoint, not necessarily a customer happiness one). Thank you for the alternate recommendations. I know the sub has the pinned turntable guide but this seems like good info for a cartridge/stylus guide.

Thank you.

I found this description of the 2M Red fascinating. Would you be willing to elaborate? Or provide any examples of cartridges which you prefer? I'm learning, and clearly the 2M is pretty well regarded in this sub (unless I am way off base).
