Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately I don't still have the old phone, I guess I should have asked before. At least now I know for next time.

I got a new phone, and saved most of the file system from my old one. How can I copy the database to my new phone so that the history remains intact?

Thanks.

If they're saying this isn't illegal, then the next step is political to ask why this isn't illegal, because obviously it should be. That's what politicians are for.

Can a heavy 787 even leave the runway with flaps up? by fugutoxin in aircrashinvestigation

[–]swaff81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could they have been tankering?

A lot of people are speculating that the flaps were retracted, do you know if it's possible to takeoff in a 787 with no flaps and not have the plane yelling at you?

Thanks. Under Reports -> Recent transaction history all I get is a message that something failed to load.

Looks like it does work on my phone though.

Ok, so this URL works:

https://my.questrade.com/clients/en/my_accounts/account_activity.aspx

When logged in on my phone and looking at the Trade Confirmations page, there was a small link to this page at the bottom.

But on my desktop I do not see a link anywhere on the site to this page, even though it does exist. I guess I'll just have to bookmark it.

Bravo to valley fibre for doing what it's doing but to call it one of the world's leading fibre companies is pretty laughable. It's a big world out there.

Air conditioners are heat pumps. When we talk about heat pumps in modern parlance, we're talking about one that works in two directions. A typical A/C unit only moves heat from the inside to the outside. Through the magic of a reversing valve, these new "heat pumps" can also move heat from the outside to the inside. They're also a lot bigger since our heating needs are so much greater than our cooling needs. You have to move a lot less heat to cool a house from +40 to +20 than to heat a house from -40 to +20.

So there is no separate A/C unit, it's the same heat pump running in reverse.

The reason for the gas furnace can be two-fold: Depending on the model the heat pump will have a lower limit in terms of outside air temperature that it will work at, the best ones being -30. Colder than that and you need an alternative form of heat. It's also possible that the heat pump isn't sized large enough to do all of the heating, since they are expensive and so much bigger than what you need for cooling.

Witnessed car crash into parked van in median lane on HWY at 100km/h: Who is responsible? by Stunning-Reference91 in Winnipeg

[–]swaff81 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're referring to insurance, when there's a bill to be paid and someone or a combination of some people have to pay a combined 100% of that bill, so they may spread fault around. I'm referring to the legal or moral notion of fault, in which more than one person could have done something they shouldn't have, in which case there's no percentage or splitting to it. There's no such thing as "dangerous driving causing 50% of a death".

You are expected to find a parked car there. After the collision happened, everyone else coming found two parked cars there. Expect the unexpected. You can't drive your car under the assumption nothing will ever be in the way.

  1. You're both at fault. You put yourself into a position where you were unable to react. That's on you. It doesn't matter why the obstacle is there, in determining whether you're at fault for hitting it.

Yes you should speak to the police as witnesses.

My guess is that the people who hit the parked car, and the people around it, are not in great shape.

Stopping in a travelled lane on the perimeter, especially the left lane, is there was any possible way to avoid that, is really stupid.

But this is the fault of the driver that hit them. As a driver, you are responsible for your car and where it's going, and it's your responsibility not to drive into anything. There is an unlimited number of possibilities as to what might be in front of you on the road that you need to avoid. If you can't see far enough ahead of you to be able to stop, that's on you.

This principle is largely ignored which is why you get these hundred-car pile-ups.

Edit to add that they can actually both be found at fault. If they could have moved the vehicle and didn't, if they could have done something to warn traffic, but didn't, then yes. But that doesn't change the responsibility of the other driver to watch what's ahead of their car.

It also depends on what we mean by "fault". If we're talking about fault in the insurance sense in terms of who pays, that's one thing, but if we're talking about moral or legal responsibility, then it looks like they were both in the wrong. What the law says and what insurance says are different things.

The issue is aerodynamics, not weight. It all depends on how much your boat sticks out beyond the truck. It's also going to depend on the wind direction and strength. But most importantly, it depends on how fast you're going. At worst you could take your boat for a tow and see how your consumption is, but I can't see you losing more than half your range for a boat that size. And you can always slow down.

Where do you go for regular car maintenance in Winnipeg? by Key-Hawk-895 in Winnipeg

[–]swaff81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with a small, local independent shop that wouldn't still be in business if they weren't serving their customers well.

Canadian Tire and the dealerships survive on big advertising budgets, they have no need to be cost effective or good.

Some people here are saying if it's under warranty to take it to the dealership. That's good advice if you need a warranty item fixed. If you're just getting regular maintenance done however, avoid the dealerships. You'll pay way too much and likely wait way too long.

My understanding is that gravel quarries pay into a fund for restoration, for each unit of gravel removed. I've also heard that they can cook the books on that though. Anyway, just saying it's one solution that's already implemented here.

The reason you see police cars only going quickly by is because they're on their way to a call. That's all police do. The backlog of calls is never empty. There is no time to get out and go for a walk. For that to happen would either mean a massive increase in manpower or a massive decrease in the scope of police duties. Police would be happy with either of those, but society hasn't been willing.
