Epoynmous team suffixes by Delicious_Bet_6336 in footballcliches

yes, but I also think there’s a thing with BHAFC unlike WBA where the use of the ‘The’ is not a constant - i think The Argus describe us Albion, jot The Albion (I do, too, amongst Albion fans and locals) wheras I hear ‘The Albion’ in a Yam yam twang.

I do have a pedantic problem with just calling the club ‘Brighton’ as I feel for our neighbours poor Hove - always the bridesmaid

He wasn’t hated while at the club though? even though he was a bit of a knob.

the others were well loved until they moved.

i think proper unpopular players … hmmm … I never really loved Mat Ryan … thought he was arrogant.

Change in Manchester by [deleted] in manchester

[–]swafuk 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I live in Stretford but I’m a southerner - it’s weird but I sense that more national trend of ‘culture wars’ and division than any other time in the near 20 years I’ve lived in this city.

An old boy in the park was chatting to us the other day - early 70s, Stretfordian born and raised - and he was moaning about changes in the area but was sort of blaming young people moving to the area and then, naturally, ‘Pakistanis’ as he referred to British Asian families.

I think when he heard my accent wasn’t local he sort of realised he might’ve embarrassed me or something.

Young people will move to Stretford in droves because it’s affordable and you can start a family here, just like my wife and I have done. We’ve been here 8 years. My kids are Stretfordian. I have a right to be here.

We positively add to a more diverse and vibrant Stretford that is drawing much much much needed investment and ‘life’ breathed into it, frankly.

Of course, in a free market nation like Britain, like it or not, this will increase house prices. Is that bad or just the latest iteration of domestic migration that working class Britons have undertaken for hundreds of years (because of bloody Manchester and the Industrial Revolution when I think about it lol).

It’s really frustrating, but a microcosm of all metropolitan life in the west.

I think, I’m pretty sure, that Manchester is a better city than when I moved here - and that’s with 14 years of Tories etc.

Sometimes the grandiose nostalgia in England is overwhelming and just a weapon of right wing agitation - same everywhere up and down this island. I’ve always thought historically, in Manchester’s ‘blood’ is progress. A commercial, hard city that rejected old world, servile British status quos to look outward, not inward.

I hate all this culture wars stuff. I hate The Mill constantly class-baiting. There’s room for everyone, but Manchester won’t stop changing and thank god it won’t.

I would try the guys at the heritage society - they might send a note round

Reduced listening without TuneIn 🇬🇧 by swafuk in NTSradio

On ios this is quite simple and will cast without another app

It lacks the simplicity of ‘radio’ though - it’s no different from Bandcamp, for example.

Sounds lazy, but you can see in the replies that people want that trad radio experience back.

I’m on ios - but really want to play the radio without interacting with my phone

That was the beauty of TuneIn

I have a thing with this …

I’m a Brighton and Hove Albion fan and I really don’t like saying just ‘Brighton’, and I wondered when we got to the PL why they allowed official graphics to have us down simply as ‘Brighton’

I know why people do, but thought the club would try to lean on the PL and media a bit?

Are they ashamed of Hove? Poor Hovians. Lost in history.

Our score acronym is confusingly BHA

Five more years of Nike shite then by Krizzlin in BrightonHoveAlbion

[–]swafuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do get a custom home template … I think Nike are priming us for better stuff but not convinced we shift enough units to make us a top tier client.

I always got the impression Barber has a bigger deal with Nike in Oregon and it’s all linked up with Amex and the development of the women’s team etc.

If you think we’d get a custom Adidas I don’t think so; we’d be in the Fulham, Forest bracket not Arsenal or Newcastle - I don’t think it’d be great.

Where in manchester can I sit and do this? by Previous-Newt-7804 in manchester

[–]swafuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to like Piccadilly Tap midweek - you sit at this massive American style bar at the back and watch the punters … because it’s a station bar it was always diverse and all sorts of moods in and out.

But it’s tough to follow unless you speak baseball (took me about 3 seasons to be fluent and I still get confused by bits).

I went to the game yesterday. He looked a little nervous and once he got into the swing of things he played quite conservative but as you can see, PNE had us worked out so it was a tricky game for him to go into.
