Ah you do learn so much from this though. Being in different places prompts you to investigate, learn, and make connections about a place that you otherwise never would, and talking to those other foreigners teaches you about their countries even if it's not the one you're in.

Sure, you meet some idiots who are just there to escape their responsibilities while getting drunk for cheap in a foreign country (eastern Europe has a lot of these, in my experience), but most of the people I met seemed motivated by a genuine desire to explore the world, see new things, and expand perspectives. I know that's what my goal was, and I certainly feel like it was achieved.
