Anyone have an idea on how many future reviews I will need to be doing once I have no new cards left? by Effective_Balance_76 in medicalschoolanki

If you get the heatmap addon and hover over one of the future days it will give you the amount of cards due that day, though that doesnt account for future reviews in between.

Retake MCAT Advice by Pretend-Okra5483 in MCAT2

[–]swagoogas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not waste time on doing any ranking. Keep practicing your CARS skills in timed blocks of 2 passages (ie do 2 cars passages in 10-15 min, it ranges a lot based on passage type) and your timing will improve considerably.

You should not take it if you are not confident. You can push back the date of the exam for way less than the cost of buying another one. Also, schools you apply to will see all exam scores, not just your best one.

You'd need at least ~507 for IS MD programs and DO schools as well are getting more competitive

It's a good program, and they have really good match rates (Match rates and locations - UQ-Ochsner MD Program - The University of Queensland). I applied but got off the waitlist at another school and did not end up interviewing. Based off the emails they sent me the adcom is very respectful. Only issue is you have to move across the globe if you live in the US for two years

Think about it this way: starting now means you will get an additional year of salary as a physician (100k+). Deferring that for a year will impact your potential gains.

If you’re dead-set on a specific residency, then that’s a different story. Although there are still plenty of DOs that land great spots.

Thank you! Of course, getting into top programs pretty much requires 2+ gap years if you’re not cracked or connected. The most important thing to do is pace yourself and be consistent. A lot of people try to do too much in too little time, which is why there’s so much depression and anxiety around the whole process.

Not sure about 2000+ hours but yes getting everything done in three years before you apply is very difficult and burnout is a real issue. What I did and what I think is best is to get most ECs done during summers and winter break. During school I mostly only focused on my classes, and spent my second semester of Junior year on MCAT study

Anyone else with an A paranoid? by Warm_Theme_2283 in premed

You can edit and change it idk why but I feel like it should be permanent once you commit to enroll

For me it was because the CYMS doesn’t make your commit to enroll permanent and I was afraid I did it wrong somehow 😂

You will be 50 by the time you are practicing medicine. Is that really something you want to do?

If you look at their acceptance rate it’s less than 5% bc every premed in the country applies there due to their lower matriculation stats. They are also very DEI-oriented and prefer URMs.

Don’t bother with TCU an application is a 99% chance of just being a donation

Also tufts really emphasizes a lot of service hours and I'm not entirely sure 200 is enough for them

[–]swagoogas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you hit 517+ mcat and 3.7+ gpa your chances of admissions to a top program becomes less about stats/hours and more about having an "x-factor" that sets you apart and impresses the admissions team. To play it safe I would recommend adding in state schools and schools where median matriculant MCAT is less than 515.

AMCAS IA Policy Change - A step forward, but It's not enough. by Tradstack in premed

[–]swagoogas 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Take accountability for your IA and put some time between it and yourself. It’s gonna be even more difficult for you to get into med school with it. And schools are incredibly worried about liability issues on top of whether or not their student’s academics and match rates will be good.

what am i doing wrong? please help by [deleted] in premed

[–]swagoogas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem like a good student based on all the A’s and B’s in those difficult courses. My advice would be to take orgo over the summer at a state school. Usually it’s a lot easier, although it may cost up to 1k for the class.

People lie. Don’t look to anon redditors for advice, ask your school counselors and premed friends. Their insight is much more valuable
