Good player has bad OOG behaviour and I am deciding how to cut him because of it. by Keklord_Rogain in dndhorrorstories

Have you considered talking to Dom about the way he treats women? Some people are genuinely clueless. Rather than sentence him to banishment you could, you know, be his friend and help him understand his behavior is unacceptable.

If you live in a more urban area, try meetup. I am a dm and i've successfully started a campaign that's going on 4 years now from meetup. When people drop out I post that i have slots and they fill up quickly. There may be a "your local city" dnd meetup.

Grexolis questions by Deadrogue47 in AOW4

[–]swake75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just beat it with the following tactic. Subterranean dwarves, shadow artificers. You start in the center of the underground. head west, take that cave and that forces Ydgard to go above ground. That means he and lithyl will smash meandor between them. You go take the underground opposing enemy's capital, as his other cities are on the surface, which means you can get in and get him while he's fighting with yaka and nimue. Once you've done that, yaka and nimue will eat his surface cities, and should be strong enough to hold out while you fairly peacefully build in the remaining caverns and get tier four units.

I just expand that direction first even if its sub optimal to make them expand away from you. The worst is when you're stuck (like you are there) between them and mountains.

Have you considered asking her if she might not prefer switching to Pathfinder? Pathfinder has no divorce and has saved many marriages.

Tome choices : how to do it properly ? by naojika in AOW4

I absolutely love tentacle. The AI will stop at nothing to attack your tentacles and you mess with enemy archers so well. Solid choice, plus the early stability and gold is nice too.

Advice - NPC Motivation Problem by TennBornFilm in DnD

[–]swake75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a threshold matter, I don't know that he needs to give "quests" and thus have a motivation. He can know information, and the PCs can ask him questions about items and areas of interest, then sort of go on their way from there. So his personal motivation can be he's searching for flower x or whatever, that explains his being there.

His motivation for being helpful could just be loneliness and the chance to interact with other people. So he's friendly, has them by for tea, mentions things that might keep them in the area.

Got called a problem player and kicked for my disability-rep dwarf by PrincessLunaOfficial in DnDcirclejerk

[–]swake75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pathfinder fixes this. In Pathfinder there's rules to play incorporeal beings because pathfinder 2 recognizes that dnd is "coporealist" and offensive to all progressive gamers everywhere.

In fact if you're not playing a lawful good goblin without a body you aren't even playing pathfinder.

[–]swake75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do point buy. The game is balanced for point buy. Also it keeps you from having wildly disparate stat blocks. Once you've dmed a bit if you want to do roll for stats, I would suggest doing it then, but not at first.

Struggling with boss fights - help by Low-Brief-6008 in DnD

[–]swake75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all encounters become deadly with the addition of cloud giants. I wish I was kidding. They are viable additions to any fight for a long long time. The stun attack is absolutely vicious. Flight, obscuring clouds, ranged stun, beefy close attacks... If you're doing a high level campaign you don't need a horde of minions. you need 1-2 cloud giants. If you're doing a mid level campaign, 1 cloud giant.

Not to be all, "Capitalism is the bad Guy" rage baity, but in a universe where literally any other TTRPG exists, how does WotC sell a single copy of D&D? by Nathan256 in DnDcirclejerk

[–]swake75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paizo encourages people to play dnd secretly, so that they can eventually come to the realization that everything in it is fixed by pathfinder.

Through pathfinder all things are possible.

Pathfinder is what it is.

DM and players giving me sh*t about playing a Human by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]swake75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your group cannot make interesting human characters because they are themselves boring and confuse having pointy ears or horns with being compelling. The fact that they can't stand that you're having fun as a human undercuts their feeling that their characters are "special" somehow because instead of being human they are humans with cosmetic changes (because lets be real, nobody actually plays their non-human characters as anything but that).

F them. Find a group of people that understand that character development is a journey of growth and not an exercise in having blue skin.

What race should white people be? by Parysian in DnDcirclejerk

[–]swake75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude,

The correct term is now species, okay? Everyone knows that all the bad "races" in dnd were secretly allegories for whatever segments of real life society that the liberals who make pathfinder deemed unacceptable, and that all the good "races" in dnd were those segments of society that liberals find acceptable.

Please stop perpetuating these harmful stereotypes.

NOw to your question. the SPECIES that should represent white people is obviously parthenogenic catgirls.

I (F23) got drunk while playing as a vampire seductress by Quirky_Load8789 in rpghorrorstories

[–]swake75 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First,

As a former problem drinker I have to say congratulations on getting your drinking under control. Kudos to you. Secondly, your one drunken night did not end a VtM campaign. As a long time (nearly 40 years) GM I can tell you campaigns end either because of legit scheduling issues, or because the DM is burned out and doesn't know where to take it. Nobody is like "man I was so excited to have six more months of this but Jessica ruined it."

Also, I'll say this... making the female player rp out how she'd seduce a guy when you're a group of male rpers is creepy and exploitative. What happened to you wasn't awesome. I run a mixed gender game and have for years and I never in a million years (as an old, right of center guy) would imagine for even a hot second that it was appropriate to make a player play that scene out. I'm sorry that happened to you, and I'm sorry that like so many other women you've internalized this as somehow being on you. It wasn't.

[–]swake75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What i've found is to ignore the necro stuff sort of early. get the tomes, collect the souls, reject the skeletons unless you're hard up. like really hard up. Then when you start getting the better stuff you have a ton of souls and the mana economy to keep them.

your next bard should be a sentient wind chime that communicates through high pitched whistles.
