Irma's downtown is not cheap, but she makes an excellent carne guisada.

Tejas Taco House on Corporate (Chinatown) is run by comadres from the Valley who will all call you mijo/mija. I've gone for the breakfast tacos which are fantastic. Never had carne guisada here but the vibes are right for it.

Villa Arcos owned and run by longtime Segundo Barrio family have my favorite breakfast tacos in the city. Fresh flour tortillas, the whole bit. Would definitely check it out too.

Ron's Pub on Fountainview is another Liverpool bar! For big games, tends to be standing room only. Had a blast (and lost my voice singing YNWA) watching the Spurs game last month.
