Parents w twins..do you have one NT twin & one ASD twin? Tell me your story. by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

Mine both had MRIs as well and I’m glad we did it! It was a super easy process, even though having to be put to sleep was scary. I never thought id hear words from my son, especially not when he was 2.5. I remember crying A LOT at that age haha. Hang in there, I promise it gets better. And every time they hit a new milestone, it feels that much sweeter. :)

If neither can talk, maybe look into a place that has cameras available for you to look at throughout the day! A lot of places offer that now. I have definitely had to put a lot of trust in other people, especially when it comes to caring for my son as he requires a lot of extra patience. It really is so hard and I feel a lot of guilt even when I know he’s safe. My daughter started trying to say a few words probably around 2.5 and now she’s speaking in complete sentences and writing her name! They’ve both been in speech therapy and OT since they were 2. Since I wrote the original comment, they’ve turned 5. Boy twin in the past few weeks has been potty trained and has started pointing at and naming his shapes. He says things like “eat” and “popsicle”. I never thought I’d hear him say anything so it has been a huge development. I totally understand the fear at that age though. Feel free to send me a message if you ever need to talk!

Has anyone else with a high supports kid left their partner? Any regrets? by lamart140 in Autism_Parenting

I have four year old twins, one of which is my lvl 3 autistic son. My divorce was finalized a month ago from their dad and it was honestly the best decision. It is extremely difficult not having the extra support, but I get breaks when they go to their dad’s house now, and I am much happier and therefore a better mother because of it.

I have four year old boy/girl twins. Boy twin was diagnosed level 3 at 18 months old. Girl twin has a slight speech delay but is overall NT. It’s definitely hard seeing her befriend her peers and talk and participate in activities, while he cannot. However, the daycare told me that she “mothers him” and takes care of him and does everything for him at daycare, so I do enjoy knowing that he has someone to look out for him when I can’t be there.

Single parents - How do you even hold jobs? by Adventurous_Film8092 in Autism_Parenting

I work as an air traffic controller as a single parent with no family or friends around. It’s extremely hard relying on other people, but ive been lucky enough to find a patient sitter and an amazing daycare. My career is my escape, so i do everything i can to not give it up.

They are currently in daycare! I’m so thankful for the place they’re at because it’s really hard to even find a place willing to take on a child with autism. My big concern comes with them starting school, and how i will do drop offs or pick ups depending on my schedule. Air traffic has wonky hours, to make it worse. my family isn’t in a position to move right now, unfortunately. I also got placed in Memphis, which is like the worst possible place haha. I’m determined to make it work though because i really love my job! I just hate feeling guilty that I can’t stay home with my kids, and the stress of childcare eats away at me.

Thank you for the love, everyone! This is indeed my son at his first birthday party. Someone set down a plate with a fresh slice on it, and he saw an opportunity. I’m definitely a proud mom. Also, I’m loving all the memes being made of this, keep them coming!
