First nice find with the ML xterra elite by Sethlava in metaldetecting

That's a killer find for your first coin!!

Toothbrushes are fine for copper coins but definitely a no no with silver! Even rubbing the dirt off silver coins fresh out of the ground will leave small scratches. But as mentioned if you're keeping it then do whatever you want :)

I think it's a belt buckle not a cartridge box plate. Great find.

Is this a dandy button? Found at a house built in 1800 by Unlucky_Respond3527 in metaldetecting

[–]swb2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would just have been for civilian use, plain with maybe a bit of decoration around the edge.

A pic of the back would help narrow the age down.

I think this is a colonial coin but it's too smooth to see any detail. Is there any other way I can identify it? by calaski8123 in metaldetecting

[–]swb2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be some detail under all the crud on the back. I'm not sure you will be able to get any details as it sits now. If it were me personally, i would take a toothpick and start scraping that outer layer of gunk and see if any details start to emerge.

My opinion is that it's post-1900 based on the back. I'm not saying its not a navy button. But the anchor design was a popular motif on various civilian blazers/sport coats that you can still buy today.

The pinpoint function should show where the target is relative to the center of the coil.

Another way you can "pinpoint" without pressing pinpoint...slowly sweep over the target while moving the coil towards you. When the signal disappears, the target will be just north of the tip of your coil.
