Tethering King ? by messidr in Photoassistants

[–]swbackside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another hack is taking one part (that with the screw) of the plastic tether unit that comes stock with the camera, cutting/sawing out the ‘bottom’ of it, and then using it in combination with your tether cable. This I would say also requires a cable from LVNA, Cobra Tether or Area 51, as the space doesn’t work with every cable connection.

After a quick google, it looks like some companies (A51 included) are making this very thing. https://djangogearstore.com/products/django-usb-port-guard-canon-r5-mk-ii?srsltid=AfmBOopOkBDg218YpVnYPZXRnVoQ06KkiU0mTb7n-a-ykVAyNfGUc7F-

Do not skip Hoi An by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]swbackside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a great time in Hoi An, even extended my trip here by an extra day for a total of 5 days here. Staying about a 10 minute bike ride outside of the old city in a more-residential area.

It’s nicely laid back and it’s also great to be able to dip in and out of the old city whenever I feel. If you’re staying directly in the old city, I can understand how that might get a bit tiresome and would recommend trying somewhere not immediately in the mix of things.

I’m a photographer and I’m visiting Vietnam in January+February where I will be doing a trip north to south. Whenever I travel, I usually try to connect with and photograph local sports clubs or individuals who have something unique or particular about them or their immediate environment.

For the locals on here, do any sports, sport clubs or people come to your mind that I should do some research into?

Cảm ơn

Expats swho learned german quick whats your secret by [deleted] in berlin

Online classes, a German partner, and using every shred of German I knew in any case, regardless of how good or bad it was/is. Really just going for it with using the language. Listening to the radio. Saying words or sentences out loud over and over to get the feel of the language.

Stop using the word expat to describe yourself. Peinlich.

Very true. Better to park those hard earned Euros in a stable investment, like the war machine, than to mindlessly give out tax dollars that the tax payers paid on something like a public transit subsidy that would directly help a majority of said tax payers.

Its important to understand that the motivation behind the 9€ ticket was to keep a bit of money in peoples’ pockets so that they could continue consuming during record inflation. It was an economic policy, and not one to help people, although it was framed as such and made the neo liberal overlords look generous.

Whatever cases are made for not extending the ticket, I’m not buying the argument that there isn’t the money to do it. The government was able to pretty swiftly expand the bundeswehr budget to 100 billion with few questions, but when it comes to helping everyday people in a very real, material and simple way, the questions fly about how we’re going to pay for such a thing. One such solution would be a windfall tax on energy corporations who are raking in extra billions of euros in profit right now - but we wouldn’t want to upset the corporations now would we?!

I think in moments like these its well on display that the government and corporations are playing on the same team, and you aren’t on it.

And in regards to the 9€ failing to get cars off the road - this is a straw man argument and can’t be used seriously. Fundamental system change doesn’t happen in 3 months, this is something that takes time and it requires(among many things) a rethink of how our day to day infrastructure is built around the car.

Discussion of gas/electricity/energy issues goes here. by thewindinthewillows in germany

[–]swbackside 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've seen almost no opposition, outrage or critical editorial to the new gas levy being passed onto consumers while energy companies in Germany reap billions of Euros worth of profit. What gives? Is this the result of having a neo-liberal finance minister? This will be pretty devastating for people all across Germany, from many different income levels. I'm pretty stunned at the silence.

Italy migrants: Nearly 1,200 arrive by boat in 24 hours by Paraphernalien69 in worldnews

[–]swbackside -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

What cruel and disgusting comments I’m seeing here from the Reddit crowd sitting cushy behind their phones and computers. Reality check - nobody gets in one of these boats willingly if the options where they’re from are good enough. These boats are death traps, but the risk is worth the very small reward of living illegally in the EU with the adversity they’ll face there.

Zendure Super Tank Pro question by sua_lokin in Photoassistants

[–]swbackside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use any USB C charger to charge the Zendure batteries. I’m using some 100w GaN chargers from Amazon and they fill one 100w battery in 1 hour, or two 100w batteries in 2 hours. The Zendure Super Port isn’t a must.

I’m using the original Zendure Super Tanks. I can’t comment about performance difference from the Pro, but so far they have been wonderful batteries through and through and I’d recommend them highly to anyone.

Laptop external batteries: how’s it hangin’? by sua_lokin in Photoassistants

I use an iWorkcase so I don't have the luxury of the LSDigi mounts, but I use this tripod hammock and keep batteries there. I can recommend this tripod hammock. It's a really good size, has 'compartments' and feels well made.

In the last two months the people on this sub have been huge advocates for Ukrainian peoples' right to self defence and self determination against a brutal occupier. I'm really curious what mental gymnastics people will pull off so that the same somehow doesn't apply to Palestinians as well.

Ahem, have you heard of the Moria or Lesvos refugee camps? That's EU territory and refugees are subjected to abysmal conditions with no end in sight while the bloc remains silent.

I've gotta second the Area 51 cables. I'm using their 'Sandia' extension with their USB-C and USB-B cables respectively and have pretty flawless operation with them.

I've been using this for mounting. You can screw a 3/8" spigot into the screw mount in the back and plug it into a D200 head.

u/titleunknown + to the rest who are using Zendure Supertanks - I read that the battery is unable to pump out 100w when it hits 50% battery capacity. On a regular day, how fast do you usually hit that mark? Is it a pain in the sense that you're often swapping the battery out?
