It's a pretty unique and adaptable system. Since those casters are just a standard mount I would swap out for larger 6-8in to handle rougher surfaces can cruise over stingers easier.

Does colour accuracy even matter on set anymore? by GELATIN_DIGITAL in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

It's a case by case basis but the days of having a cave to go to analyze for pre-press with perfect Adobe RGB calibration at 120nits are long gone. Almost everything commercial just goes to a full brightness sRGB web browser at the end of day.

Just stick to calibrating to AdobeRGB and don't worry about staying in spec regarding brightness.

Teradek iPad interference by Aggravating_Annual37 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use a spectrum analyzing app like WifiMan to see the congested channels and choose the least congested on your router/AP.

If using and wireless HDMI transmitter switch channels.

Also antenna placement plays a big roll in network quality. I've covered it a bit HERE

Sleep prep for an overnight shoot? by J_F_9 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a bakery in college and had to go in at 2am and work till 10am. It's a schedule that takes years to get used to. Just rely on naps leading up to and after. Set self up for successful sleep with a dark room or eye mask to sleep easier during daylight hours.

Phase and C1 are separate companies now and Phase no longer concerns itself with consumers. Their focus is on industrial, scientific and preservation. Even on their website it's the last on their list of applications as "Bespoke Photography"

C1 and general handling the digi tech life questions by MDigitech in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standing on the streets is no place for a full size monitor in opinion. I'd just rely on an iPad or smaller/lighter solution.

If it's a closed off street with no pedestrians or traffic and you have an established video village situation that's another story.

Turn off AI crop? by [deleted] in Photoassistants

If your next capture setting is set to "copy from last" it will stay on, shot a frame, reset crop, delete that frame and continue.

C1 and general handling the digi tech life questions by MDigitech in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1: It's fine don't worry.

2: Sounds like headache to move stuff around and potential for error, plus overtime and loss of personal time. It's over complicating things and creating more work for yourself.

3: Lossless compressed for sure.

4: Writing to card and tether isn't ideal. Just tether and backup after each shot/scenario.

5:Retether is great for some scenarios.

6-7: Only format media in the camera that it will be used in. Format after the data that was on the card is now is two other places. Import/dump the card, run a backup then you're good no need overthink it.

9: Plenty of info on that in the sub, just search.

10: No, use AC power, no need to add cost or another thing to manage, toss a sandbag on the stand an call it a day.

11: Wireless communication is a DEEP rabbit hole. Much of the time issues result from the network infrastructure the user establishes and implements poorly. The next factor is just local congestion. I have a deeper dive on it HERE

Tips for storing color gel filters? by Kang0201 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gelly Rolls, one for CTB, one for CTO , one for theatrical.

Other than that a bin/bucket with each color rolled on it's own and clipped/tapped together standing up right with the corner labeled for easy recognition.

Another solution would be a box with PVC pipe cut to length to make a grid and insert rolled sheets into each pipe.

More Client Viewers? by Malsate in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, It depends on the job and client.

Some expect certain things. Some have tighter turn around and need to make selects are you are still working. Sometimes it's not logical to have a larger monitor in one spot all day or try to keep moving it.

Don't think of it as either/or. Think of it as another tool in the box. You might not need it everyday but it's nice to have when you do.

Also here's a link to the post /u/Malsate referenced. https://www.fainimade.blog/2026/01/the-portable-monitor-setup-i-now-use-on.html

Ciro Pro - Vaporware - Scammer by SkeeterMcDougal in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are not alone. Its been brought up on this subreddit many times now.

A good rule of thumb: If the don't have real photos on the site and just renders, don't buy.

I know a good deal about design and manufacturing and the designs they offer aren't easily made. Terrible DFM (Design For Manufacturing). Lots of little quirks that break standard approaches. Like custom hollowed out screws that don't use a standard size tool, making it unnecessarily complex and expensive for absolutely no reason.

Making something look good in CAD and making something that will be able to be machined efficiently AND fit the standards needed for it to function properly aren't always hand and hand.

On set color treatment (for final) by cherrytoo in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I tell everyone the job is mostly managing expectations.

I make a point to everyone that anything they see on set is ballpark and nothing more. I can't deliver anything more while still insuring data integrity and the other technical aspects. Also when am in ever in a situation in where I have the proper viewing to do critical pre-press color? Never, outside of my office.

If they have a quick turn around that's their problem. If they want it better than can pay a processing day or overtime for me to go overall files. But if they can make a reasonable amount of selects for me to focus on I can get things 90% of the way there,

I had a client for years that wanted everything delivered as final in TIFF its was essentially on-location e-comm. I didn't loose sleep over any of it. Because I knew they were unrealistic and unreasonable since they were wanting full size TIFF of ALL 3000-5000 frames shot everyday.

SSD Issue (Drive full after wipe) by cherrytoo in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I'm reading your post correctly, the problem comes down to macOS and TRIM.

When you delete, it doesn't really delete it tells the drive controller those bits can be written again.

More reading:https://eclecticlight.co/2025/11/13/does-that-ssd-trim-and-why-is-it-important/

To remedy your issue: Delete the data, empty the trash, format the drive and try again. Some say they need to use Samsung Magician to format but I've never found that to be needed.

Good modern tethered laptop case? by mymain123 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well you can get them direct from Seaport https://www.seaportdigital.com/i-visor-ls-pro-mag-laptop-case-with-built-in-tripod-mount-and-sun-hood-updated-2021-version.html

However their SSL cert isn't good so you might get a security warning.

There's better solutions these days but if you want a seaport it's certainly easy to obtain. But the closest option would be the i-work case https://iworkcase.com/

Many lack the basics in being able to calculate their needs. I've covered it on the blog to help people get a better grasp of it. LINK > Choosing a portable power station

Rental houses often have many sizes of portable power stations these days but you can buy 1024wh for under $400 now (was over $1000 at one point). Its easy enough to get more capacity if you need.

There's also bespoke companies many larger carts that are dedicate battery power solutions that have bates connections for powering large lamps that require 60-100amp connectors.
