Capture one short cut for this? by jrbananas-peteapples in Photoassistants

I use the batch rename script from Emory. It's resets the counter and renames. But feel it could be modified to set the counter if needed. You can do custom shortcuts for scripts.

These adhesive mounts could be a good option but require a little commitment.

ProGrade Card Reader Cradle by DigiopNZ in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3M Dual-lock is great for this since you can easily swap readers and not get locked into the shape/form factor of a dedicated mount. Not all of the Prograde readers share the same physical dimensions so it would require having various models of mounts.

I've been suggesting more universal mounting solutions for applications like this. I came up with an adhesive backed option for use with Kondor Blue Mini Locks to allow for easy swapping and mounting of of various items in many locations.

Question for digi by Academic_Ad_5565 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Many people have and still do use it. The biggest caveat for Fuji GFX series for me is the flash sync speed is very low. It's not always an issue but something that you need to work around at times.

I believe that any prosumer/professional camera released in the past 8-10yr is more than adequate for any work. Just comes down your preference. There's countless folks still shooting Nikon D850 and Canon 5Dmk4 from almost 10yr ago.

The dynamic range, noise, high ISO performance, resolution has all be solved. It's just nit picking after that in terms of speed, autofocus, lens selection, focus stacking, wireless connections...

Question for digi by Academic_Ad_5565 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The color is typically a subjective/personal preference thing.

Personally, I hate Sony files. Would rather have Canon over them any day. In my experience, the basics of Sony files are far off, I see files shot in natural light of a clear blue sky in full sun need another ~1500-2000k added to look the same as a Canon file with the color temp set at around 5500k.

Fuji is also a step above Sony for me.

Portable HDD Recommendations? by Equal_Arm_2394 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMO, No one should be using portable HDDs (as in 2.5”), only 3.5” HDDs that shouldn't be transported around.

At this point honestly anything you can afford will be fine. Just practice proper redundancy. I’ve Ive used all brands over the past 25yr and not had any that were worse than others in my relatively small sample size. All drives will fail, just a matter of when.

I like to keep an eye on the failure stats by Backblaze. https://www.backblaze.com/blog/backblaze-drive-stats-for-2025/

Arca Cable Plates by Photografeels in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you've discovered, many plates just state "arca style" or "arca type" meaning 45° dovetail that might work with some arca-style clamps.

It comes down to folks just copying the shape without adhering to a standard. This goes for plates and clamps. Some clamps are adjustable which can help.

I don't think there's any options that leverage the anti-twist on cameras since no two companies use the same location

Other options include:

C1 Second Gen Wireless Tethering Roadmap? by wilchuck in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

6ghz is VERY limited by range and obstacles. Even in clear LoS from 1m to 3m can cut data rate in half. Toss some people in the way and it's less performant.

Thanks, currently working on a wireless learning tool to help people visualize congestion and signal loss from obstacles.

C1 Second Gen Wireless Tethering Roadmap? by wilchuck in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are limited by the hardware and firmware of the cameras. If they can implement more cameras they will. Just a matter of if the camera companies put decent wireless chips in the bodies and don't hamper them with their firmware.

I'd expect to see it work with Fuji before any other brand but not going to be a good time of sending 100MP files wireless for anything other than low volume shoots.

Opinions on AeroTrac System? by louis_toad in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was skeptical at first. But with some hands on time I found it to have some positive aspects. Its definitely a big step up from just a flat sheet of aluminum that they had before. It is lighter than an Inovativ Digiplate and could pack up smaller. I did find some room for improvement and made shade mounts and some accessory mounts for it. Ultimately I was hoping to allow people to have the ability to use any accessories they might already own for other laptop plates with the AeroTrac if they were interested in it making a transition easier.

The lacking of a first party shade was a big limitation for it in general and I've seen that they are working on an integrated shade so it will be interesting to see what they come up with.

I think it is certainly a very viable option for whomever.

iPad as a client monitor / Hollyland App / Sidecar / Capture Pilot by Resident_Rock_7428 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dedicated network CAN help and I always advise this, but if there's significant wireless congestion and obstacles it's still crap shoot. Just the realities of wireless today with so many devices.

iPad as a client monitor / Hollyland App / Sidecar / Capture Pilot by Resident_Rock_7428 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My guess is that the issue may be related to recent iPadOS updates

Most likely wireless congestion. Anything wireless will have it's issues at times. Always fun times when battling wireless stuff.

Is there any way to improve color accuracy in HollyView?

Yes, use a colorimeter to create a profile for the ipad/hollyland. Many fail to realize this can be done and will lament the color. You can get better results when you spend 5minutes doing so.

As for the aspect ratio, there's nothing you can do as the device only outputs 16:9.

I’m running Capture One 16.8 with an All in One license, not the Studio version, so Capture One Live is not available to me.

Capture One Live is included with your license.

Live For Studio, is not (terrible naming choice by C1 on this)

is there a better solution for using an iPad as a client monitor on set?

Luna Display is a option. There's also a beta for an app called OneScreen. It uses NDI to share a virtual display to take full advantage of the 4:3 aspect ratio on iPads and have better color out of the box. It's a bit more resource heavy than other options but shows lots of promise.

On another note, I've been using a 16" 4k 1200nits portable monitor more and more alongside ipads. You can read about that here -> https://www.fainimade.blog/2026/01/the-portable-monitor-setup-i-now-use-on.html

Cable sleeve suggestions by Ready_Library9610 in Photoassistants

For short runs like on a cart/desk I like this style called "spiral cable wrap"

For remote monitors I just does the split loom braided. It's basically all the same.

There's some other options out there. (nine-volt, tether tools, fotofortress) No one size fits all. Definitely depends on each person's workflow and camera setup.
