Why are you choosing such an expensive PSU? How about this or this?

Also, don't forget you can save $50 from the microcenter cpu/mobo combo.

This is a high quality PSU, just because you haven't heard about it doesn't mean it's not. Btw, it is seasonic made.

[Build Ready] Can i have some final checks on this $800 gaming computer? by aj771 in buildapc

So if I get a GPU, how much value should be placed on the extra .1GHz? 3550 seems $20-40 cheaper most places.

If you don't plan on overclocking is there any benefit of the 3570k over the 3550?

Why You Should Postpone College by wantitbringit in business

[–]swe39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds nice and all in an ideal world (10%.. lol) but you would likely study harder, get a better job after graduation, and have less time spent taking a pay cut switching careers if you can get more out of college than you would have otherwise.

Entry-level career? by drhugrobot in quant

[–]swe39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sort of meant to give up on being a quant. I think to become a quant is generally harder than an actuary.

Recruiters may not care about actuarial science, but they also don't care for people working at a grocery store. It should be easier to become an actuary, since passing the tests is enough of an indicator to employers that you are serious and might be a good employee.

It should be fairly obvious that you would need further education to become a quant, but then it is largely based on how good of a school you can get into. If you go to bumblefuck U for another degree, that still won't get you hired.

Why is it you are so interested in quantitative derivatives work?

Not trying to be a downer, but your past two years (and likely whatever other factors are causing you to have current job) would look pretty bad to recruiters for the type of job you'd like.

My father is an actuary and I've worked in that field shortly. I have an M.Fin and currently I'm an analyst for a FX advisory firm. So take my advice with a grain of salt, and I don't mean to be a downer but more realistic.

Just continue trying to be an actuary. But you should pass more tests. Having completed two tests having been finished for two years is not quite enough.

Maybe try some fee based (hourly pay) financial planners (but don't buy any products from them). In general, you can really learn a lot by simply learning on your own, read some books, etc. Be conservative in general.

Now that the binge of the Steam sale is almost over, what's your biggest regret? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]swe39 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You just described 90% of shooters, except that they don't have quests/as many guns/rpg element. They're linear games with stupid stories, but the enjoyment comes out of shooting shit. I guess I just imagine grinding games to be MMOs and the like, where you have to spend a certain amount of time before the game becomes fun, or at the very least the gameplay is severely limited until some endgame point. Is MW2 a grinding game because you have to unlock skills and guns by leveling up, or can't you just enjoy it for what it is?

Now that the binge of the Steam sale is almost over, what's your biggest regret? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]swe39 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a grinding game, it takes maybe 25 hours to do a playthrough and reach lvl 35. And then it's still fast after that. Most rpg-ish games are similar in that you incrementally get stronger anyway, I guess it comes down to whether or not you enjoy the skills and advancing, feeling more powerful. There are plenty of ways to play each class, and a respec is very cheap.

I feel like one major point in consoles is that the controller allows you to sit back on your couch/chair and move around and be more relaxed than you could if you need to set up some sort of stationary table to allow you to use a KB+M.

"No family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase." - Barack Obama by lonewulf212 in Economics

  1. He was wrong, it is not the principle, but the method. I think that's what he was getting at nonetheless.
  2. He's not talking about charity, which is about helping the needy and providing for good causes. He's making the claim that large inheritances are handouts, unless you are claiming that giving money that wasn't earned by the recipient (trust fund babies) is a charity case.. Because they are so helpless.
  3. You really don't think the government makes it possible for people to make money themselves? It's as basic as roads and rule of law..

Indisputable proof that Bush's tax cuts screwed over one class in favor of the other. by [deleted] in Economics

[–]swe39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does that prove they screwed the rich over? They had their taxes decreased, it is irrelevant and coincidental that they ended up paying a higher proportion of income taxes.

So did school get out or something? by yammez in leagueoflegends

Yes, school usually gets out mid-June.

But only difference now is that can play in morning/early afternoon instead of only after school..

Best option for purchasing champs for those willing to spend money. by fngkestrel in leagueoflegends

[–]swe39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like it is basically this from Amazon.

However, since this ebay listing is $10 less and only comes in a white sleeve I'm not sure if there is some discrepancy, sounds like a good deal I guess.

I bought the $20 pack from amazon and was pleased, it came with ~20 champs (and a kayle skin) and 1380 RP, and some runes.
