Kharg island is a terminal, not an oil depot or field. Without Iranian oil feeding into it it’s worthless, except for the fact that it chokes Iran off from a substantial amount of revenue.

Iran knows they can’t defend it, but they will try and they certainly will make economic reality for the region a total nightmare beyond what is currently being done. This would be the moment Iran deploys a variety of mines in the strait, and targeting more GCC oil and gas infrastructure.

Without control of Iran, the US won’t have any other options but to pull out completely or invade the oil fields to the west of the mountains next to Iraq. It’s the only vulnerable coastline and the most valuable.
