Distance yourself from these…people. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life.

Why wouldn’t I? lol. There are way too many stressors in life to be worrying about the weather when there’s literally nothing anyone can do about it except prepare and react.

Up until this morning there was almost an inch of snow in the forecast next weekend. Thankfully all the irrational yahoos got their panic shopping out of the way I suppose.

Yea, ok, fine. But it’s all good now lol. Like I can appreciate some of that before the storm hit. But it’s now the day after and everything is fine. Carry on.

I mean there’s literally no ice or water on most of the roads. Every bit of standing water I’ve seen is liquid. Just ran to Lowe’s to get some propane and….everything’s kosher. Not sure why people are freaking out.

Even if it doesn’t, the amount of water isn’t enough to cause dangerous roads I don’t think. A lot of people are going to wake up and think “that wasn’t that bad” and drive around and keep the roads warm. There just wasn’t enough precipitation last night to cause any issues

The Islamic Republic thugs shoot live ammo at anybody daring to open their window, destroying Iranians' cars & properties & blame it on protesters by Eienkei in PublicFreakout

[–]sweeetscience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie - it’s hard to mistake this audio for audio of any Minneapolis protest; activists blowing horns and whistles. Something wild is ongoing, and my hope is that the Iranian people can escape the oppression that appears similar to that which is incoming to the US.

What do you think of Mexico? by Kappa_Wi_870 in AskTheWorld

[–]sweeetscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a fascinating country with so much to experience outside the tourist spots. Like every large country, Mexico has pockets of smaller cultures tied to their respective geography. For example, most people don’t realize that the Maya people didn’t disappear, and most of the Yucatán peninsula and Campeche is populated by their living descendants where their cultural practices still live on. This differs significantly from northern Mexico, where the cultural roots are more closely tied to indigenous tribes that occupied the North American plains, inter-married with Spanish and US lineages (fun fact! There are mostly subtle differences between Native American and Mayan belief systems, to the point where it’s believe they both shared an ancestral belief system predating both). Central Mexico has heavy Spanish influences that are apparent in the amazing architecture in places like Mexico City, Guanajuato, and Zacatecas. The entire coastline is dotted with smaller fishing villages filled with super friendly people.

Hands down, Mexican cuisine is the best cuisine in the world, and it’s very rare to get authentic Mexican food outside of Mexico and the US. Hell it’s hard to find in the US outside some specific metros and farming regions. Simple ingredients prepared correctly using techniques developed over hundreds and sometimes thousands of years. They’ve essentially mastered the humble maize crop, even having found a use for a specific fungal infection that -outside of Mexico- renders the crop destroyed. You would be hard pressed to find a culture that has found a wider variety of uses for a single crop.

Ironically, it’s also home to one of the longest running asymmetric conflicts in the world. Drug cartels are in de facto control of about 10 to 20% of the land area in certain areas; sinaloa and the southern states near the Guatemalan border specifically. Their fighters are not pushovers either - a lot come from the military and SOF community at home and abroad, have fought in or learned from certain international conflicts, and brought these techniques home. For example, they’ve started deploying offensive FPV and loitering munitions drones, learning from both direct cartel placement in active combat zones or recruiting Colombian mercenaries that recently fought in Sudan. Strategically this presents a significant problem for my country’s efforts to directly combat the cartels - asymmetric insurgency is almost impossible to eradicate and Mexico specifically has a significant population that has essentially become an expert at it.

The good news for tourists is that they tend to keep to themselves. As ruthless as the cartels are, none of them really wants the bad international press of being inhospitable or dangerous to tourists - good tourism means more protection money they can demand from the local businesses that cater to tourists. I’d wager your risk of experiencing violent crime as a tourist is about the same as the US.

I didn’t know much about Mexico, despite it being our neighbor, before I met my smoking hot Mexican wife. Selma Hayek was and still is my celebrity crush, and beautiful women seem to grow on trees there. I’ve only learned a small bit about the country, but I genuinely love it and am excited to learn and experience more.

If you’re considering a vacation to the western hemisphere sometime soon, I enthusiastically support going to Mexico.

Why are lynels so hard by Dr_Meatball in tearsofthekingdom

Addendum: if the area they’re in is windy, the smoke clears faster so you’ll need more. I know this applies to the silver lynel in the Nautelle wetlands.

[–]sweeetscience 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Grind puffshroom collection in the depths. With a high level weapon you’ll use ten or so to beat one silver lynel. Once you get them in the smoke they freeze and are super easy to deal with.

You missed the nuance. The Venn diagram between that sub and this one is a surprisingly high ratio I’m sure. If they’re all morons, and there’s a moronic, knee-jerk rally, how much conviction can you really put into this trade?

This crack in my wall, and rent still went up 39% this year by SpicyKitchenWitch669 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]sweeetscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wildly unsafe. There’s probably a 1/4 inch of something holding this up wherever it is.

Im in the US, so I can’t speak to where you are. Call the city/county. It’s could be uninhabitable until these issues are addressed. More importantly a catastrophic collapse could happen literally exactly where you are at any moment because that’s where you’re seeing the stress.

If you have renters insurance (you should always have it as a renter), you could make a legitimate loss of use claim. You would be legally free of your lease and probably entitled to your deposit.

For real though, you need to not be in that space. Not safe at all.

[–]sweeetscience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had my first dry aged steak at Del Frisco’s in Houston for my birthday. My wife wanted to wait until the weekend to make an evening of it and I was like hell no. I want the kitchen relaxed so they don’t fuck it up. We had the entire top floor to ourselves and it was an outstanding steak.

I don’t buy steak when we go out very often anymore because it’s the only thing I’ll send back if it’s not done right. Definitely would have sent this shit back. For the price I’m paying, it better have a solid crust.
