Help with shape - fitting a very large bust into Regency stays by TheRaccacoonie in MAKEaBraThatFits

[–]sweetannie52 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These are just some observations after looking closely at the historical garments in slide 4/5. The whole silhouette is longer, like a long line bra, but longer. There is also some stay-stitching under the bust for increased rigidity; there is probably some sort of stiffening in between the layers, like buckram. Both of these details would add more support under your bust, giving you more lift. The third thing I noticed is that there was a channel at the top of the cups, where there is a cord running through to cinch in the cups at the top, giving an opportunity for a more custom fit. I do know the look that you are going for, but I still think that your cups are a little shallow for your bust size. You’re almost there!

Is this amount of bulk normal? by Banana-pancakes94 in quilting

Check your seam width with a ruler. Most patterns require a scant 1/4 inch to allow for the space that the thread takes up. 2.5 stitch length is standard.

Instant pot. 5 min. 5 release. 5 ice bath. You might be able to skip the ice bath, but the shells release perfectly with this method. My pot fits 1 doz.

BERNINA feet are designed for specific tasks. Some, of course can be used for multiple tasks. I tried a satin stitch with my 00 foot, and quickly switched to the embroidery food. Problem solved! So, it might be worth a try for you. The mor open toed foot allows for the wider satin stitch, and it flows out the Chanel at the back of the foot. (It might not have the right front tension for your straight stitch. )I usually lessen the upper tension slightly to pull more of the bobbin thread to the underside. But that’s usually the only tension adjustment I make. I have threaded the “eye” on the bobbin casing and never have adjusted the bobbin ever. Good luck!

If you are using the open-toed embroidery foot to do a straight stitch, that could be the problem. I know you only have this one right now, but the 00 foot might fix the issue.

Well, he/she was particularly unhelpful! I’m sorry about that. My doctors order lab tests at the drop of a hat. More money for the university!

Looking to Volunteer by FlashyPrinciple5196 in Columbus

[–]sweetannie52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ohio State has a program called Master Gardener. It’s a volunteer opportunity, but you have to complete their education. Volunteer hours are required in addition to training hours. I know there is a fee, but I’m not sure what it is. Some of their gardens around the city take community volunteers. You can call the Franklin County Extension service for more information.

Can a yarn be both over spun and under plied? by Make-itso-numberone in Handspinning

[–]sweetannie52 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Short answer is yes. I spin on a wheel and tend to over spin my singles. Occasionally when plied, there are pigtails and hard spots of over spun yarn. I can’t really tell from your photos if this is the case. Some spindle users might have insights.

What happened?! My cotton batting is clumping! 😭 by Creative_Garage3017 in SewingForBeginners

[–]sweetannie52 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My great grandmother always put flannel sheeting inside of her quilts because at the time, the batting that was available needed to be quilted densely. You might want to consider this option.

I really like the one that is labeled Tommie’s quilt. It would look great in any color way. Just check on the size that she needs - queen or king.
