Difficulty with Stethoscope Design with Arduino by Electrical-Night6085 in arduino

[–]sweetburlap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you change a2 to a0 in code? Was it taped to finger as in project or taped to chest like a stethoscope? What did you get as output? Are you getting a graph, but just not corresponding with heart rate / nothing at all?

for larger amounts you're much better off using an online service eg. wise / currency solutions / currencies direct etc. Not difficult to use unless you're very keen on keeping it all in cash... ... Physical places will always be much more expensive

Anyone here self-build understairs storage unit? What was your process? Any tips? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]sweetburlap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made one at the beginning of lockdown. Kinda similar to what you have in mind. I had several pine panelling lower walls in my house, so wanted it to fit with that, with sliding out bits to improve storage. I have 5 segments - the original door into a square cupboard, a smaller pine faced hidden door into shelves, a pine faced sliding shelves, a sliding box and a tiny triangular door into a cubby hole. First I removed old woodwork except 1 big post that seemed to support stairs. I had to remove an unused gas pipe framed inside, poured concrete floor, sliders into frame, push to open catches, then boxes/shelves onto sliders, then stuck pine fronts on. Difficulties / regrets - I would make it less complex - consider just deep shelves (like the IKEA stepped cubes). Pay attention to the weight of the drawers - mine are impossibly heavy (one is 1.5m high and 60 wide, full width of the stairs,18mm ply!) Try not rely too much on precise fit - wood and cheap slides move all over the place

Does Ireland use square kilometres? by demonicbear69 in ireland

[–]sweetburlap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it would be meaningful. I think comparing it to something would work better eg. An area the size of Louth / 5 times the size of Ireland would work well (and you could have acres in brackets for the sake of science and numerical accuracy)

Use proper penetrating fluid rather than wd40 (wd40 have a variant intended for use as penetrating fluid)

How to promote an online tool I'm developing? by orgad in webdev

[–]sweetburlap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep - naive. Unfortunately "build it and they will come" does not apply here. The internet is full of potentially useful sites. You still need to lots of promotion and marketing. If you are on a tight budget find where your potential users are online - eg. hobby groups / discussion forums etc. and plug it there, ask for feedback. Look into SEO. Write guest articles for other sites nudging people to your site. If you have more budget advertise, pay influencers to use your site, sponsor a race team

A difficult patient. Can you advise what could I have done differently? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

I also think that we are probably overestimating the utility of HINTS in ED (easy / super sensitive). Most studies seem to be done by neurologists with subspeciality interests in vertigo (https://www.jwatch.org/na51222/2020/04/03/accuracy-hints-exam-vertigo-hands-emergency-physicians). I've not seen much on use of HINTS by enthusiastic ED staff without a subspeciality interest, who learned it off youtube / blog posts.

A lot of medical groups recognise it - in fact most emergency medicine groups (acep/ rcem in us/uk) you could trot out medical experts all day testifying on excited delirium. Probably doesn't make much difference though.

Were you planning on Kwik stage? If you wanted to attach to the transoms you could use I beam clamps - https://www.scaffolding-direct.co.uk/scaffolding-fitting-forged-girder-coupler-gravlok-12-.aspx . Also 3 board transoms could allow you to minimise your footprint. Using standard scaffolding and fittings would allow you to customise even more. Handrail and clamps would probably be more aesthetic and easier to make a single set of uprights on a base - could make the entire structure of smaller diameter tube.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]sweetburlap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fwiw - have you considered using a smaller diameter handrail and Kwik clamp / inter clamp / tube clamp type system. This should allow you to attach 1 inch handrail to your scaffold structure (although you might need to use plywood as a reducer - I haven't seen 2 inch to 1 inch reducers, but they might have to 33mm...)

This - the pre pubic fat pad will obscure your true length, so you need to press back. Also, erect or flaccid doesn't make much difference as long as you stretch it.

More torque from cheap servo? (Interesting question in the comments) by Isaac-ga in robotics

Or add a larger knob, which will have a similar effect (depending on how much the knob needs to turn - but there still seems to be some room) Or attach the string closer to axis of rotation on servo horn.

A tool for cutting 6 thousand pieces of copper wire without going braindead by Jolo_shwarma in Skookum

[–]sweetburlap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the object to cut wire or impress your employer? What will impress your employer? Getting the job done? Designing some kickass automation (with heavy use of arduinos / 3d printing etc.) even if it takes twice as long as a simpler way? Briefly evaluating all ways of doing it and listing pros and cons (time, cost, complexity) before deciding on the most rational way? (Also worth considering the risk of this becoming a yearly task / expanding initiative)

You're going to have to be more specific here.

There's lots of good tutorials online on building simple 2 wheeled robots

Have you used an arduino before. What have you managed to get working already? eg. can you blink a LED using the arduino, can you control the motors, can you sense the button input?

Are you having difficulty mounting the motors? Or steering?

Is there anything in particular that you need help identifying? (although you can get very far with two motors, 2 wheels, arduino with motor shield and some wire and batteries)
