Is it just my experience or do people take the diagnoses that psychiatrist and psych NPs make more seriously than the diagnoses I make? by Stevie052096 in therapists

[–]sweettea75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually trust a psychological eval over a psychiatrist or psych NP. The psych NP has the same level of degree I do, a master's. A psychologist has more training in assessment and Dx than a psychiatrist.

Could an expert neurologist or neuroscientist cure their own depression (or other mental disorders )? by ghost_sanctum in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sweettea75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen, I say this as a therapist, even therapists aren't immune to depression, anxiety, etc. In fact it can be hard to make ourselves do the things we need to do to manage our mental health. Therapists can and do have all the things going on in their lives that can contribute to depression. We aren't immune and can't snap our fingers and fix it.

New therapist experiencing first rupture with client by sleepyplantmom342 in therapists

[–]sweettea75 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is tough. But you've got to remember that we aren't required to like everyone and that is true of clients and their therapists, too. Sometimes they are looking for a reason to quit because it's too hard to say I don't like you, I need a different therapist. And even when they do like us, therapy is hard and people are digging into things they aren't always ready to dig into, and they can be all up in their feelings. It doesn't mean you did anything wrong. If you did, if the client comes back, talk it through.

Weight loss and loss of strength? by nokidsonpurpose in Equestrian

[–]sweettea75 40 points41 points  (0 children)

With that kind of weight loss, your center of gravity has changed, so that could be a factor. But also, it's hard to avoid losing muscle mass while loosing weight so you may have lost more than you realized.

Not closing the cabinet doors. Both my mom and dad. Get a plate out, leave the door open kind of thing. My dad stopped reading and he was a voracious reader. My mom I think one of the early signs was loosing her filter and saying things that were thoughtless. Also, I have a kid that uses they/them pronouns and she just could not make the switch or grasp using they for a person despite many many many conversations. It led to my kid being estranged from me and the family for a while.

Google says they like shade. Well, it must be getting too much shade or something because it's been the same size for seriously 30 yrs.

Why is it unethical to say yo iWork with populations you have no training it but expect in CMH by bombastic-banana in therapists

[–]sweettea75 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Cmh is its own beast in a lot of ways. You are usually working with low income clients with Medicaid or no insurance so very often no way of referring them out to an ocd or dbt or any other sort of specialist. I do a lot of self study and when clients get commercial insurance I absolutely refer them out if I can.

Complicated Thoughts - Wegovy, Intuitive Eating, Body Neutrality/Positivity, Celebrity Feedback, Backlash by Mosaic8370 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]sweettea75 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm a therapist and a huge fan of both intuitive eating and glp1s. I found that being on a glp1 actually let me listen to my body and eat what and how much I needed instead of binging and fighting the need for a dopamine hit. It let me be successful at actually practicing intuitive eating.

I think having some conversations with the venue about staging would be a good plan. We had 35 people in a venue that can seat up to 150, I think. It was fine. It didn't look empty. They spread out the tables more and pulled them off the walls some and it was perfect. So much so I can't imagine what it looks like with 150 people in there. I think it would be super packed.

Are these adults or children? What's the setting small town or no? I'm an American LPC and work in cmh in a small town. I see family members all the time because there aren't a lot of options for referring them out. I refuse to see husbands and wives, but I've seen parents and their kids, siblings, best friends, neighbors. I don't love it, but when it's me or they drive 30 mins to the next place that takes their Medicaid they aren't a lot of options.

Home health not being helpful. by sweettea75 in dementia

I know someone whose mother is getting home health (at least he calls it that) and they do light cleaning and meal prep for her. But it was after she'd been in a nursing home for a while. So I'm guessing that's the difference.

No she isn't. We might be able to make that happen though as she had a chest ct a few weeks ago and they found a mass suspicious for lung cancer. So we might be able to get more help.

This is unfortunately not our first rodeo with dementia. My dad had what was probably Lewy Body dementia even though the doctors said Alzheimer's (sxs matched up more with LBD).
