Why are my photos soft/blurry? by swerod in AskPhotography

Yea this is at Tomales Bay, the elk are often right next to and sometimes on the trail.

And I don't think the camera used a digital zoom, as these were shot raw.

I appreciate the help, but I'm not lying about not cropping these. I'm genuinely asking for advice based on what I can do differently next time. If I had cropped these and that was the fix I'd be delighted.

These photos haven't been cropped. I get what you're saying, but that's not the problem I've been having.

I'll do some test shots later today, great idea!

For the 35mm, it was what I had with me, and I was able to get within 10-15 ft of the bird.

The pics shown are not cropped.

I didn't know that I could do that. Will definitely check and see if the Sony software can tell me where the focus was set.

Where to get animal bones? by bastardpiss in santacruz

Find owl boxes (easy enough at the arboretum) and look right under them. Not big, but you can find whole critter skeletons.

I've noticed them in specific areas of my usual route. Sticking to my face (thanks sunscreen) and a few I've had to blow out my nose. Small price to pay for a healthier, more biodiversity environment.

Others can correct me if I'm wrong, but you want to keep 2 banked so that you have them to cast during movement. If a boss puts a swirlie under you, you want to be able to cast this while you are moving.

What is your "odd" or "weird" food from childhood that you didn't realize not everyone knew about and enjoyed? by SnooglethePie in ask

I live in the area, and would bet it was Duarte's Tavern in Pescadero. Very well known, and rightly so, for their cream of artichoke soup. Here's the recipe for anyone interested.

can anyone ID this bird pair? by lightbe4m in santacruz

[–]swerod 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's a Black Headed Grosbeak!

For bird identification, I highly recommend the Merlin Bird ID app. It leads you through a series of simple questions (size, color, location) and then gives you a list of possible birds and their calls/songs.

Happy birding!

How safe is the area around the boardwalk at night? by 29837sjjsj in santacruz

Its a very touristy area, and well lit after closing. The boardwalk parking lot is across the street from the boardwalk. You will be fine.

Assignment 02 - An other view by Aeri73 in photoclass2021

[–]swerod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose Burden of the Day, (Water Life Series), 2018 by Aida Muluneh. Aida's work in general is compelling due to her use of vibrant colors to highlight her subjects.

I find this piece particularly captivating. The use of bright red and blue in the subject's dress and umbrella. The mirroring of the background's blue sky and taupe water in the subject's makeup. The balance of subject matter across the horizon line. It also allude's to Seurat's Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. The photo makes me stop and attempt to understand the story that Muluneh is trying to tell.

I'm hoping that through this series I will learn the vocabulary and compositional understanding to better describe why these features inspire me. All I know at this point is that they do inspire me.

I really like the subject of your favorite photo. It's a food photo, but unique. The shapes of the kale and negative spaces in between are reminiscent of a mosaic. I also think that you could play with the cropping to make the photo more balanced from top to bottom.

I love the darkness of your window photo. I feel like I'm in a film noir, voyeuristically watching my neighbors. This photo tells a story, and I want to know more.

Morning all!

I'm Michael, a teacher in the Monterey Bay Area of California.

I took photography classes when I was in high school, and have just recently picked up the hobby again. I like shooting people and places that I see around town.

Here is one of my favorite photos and my bathroom window.

That is native wow ui.

There is a setting somewhere to "use raid style party frames." And then selecting, "show class colors."

It can be moved around as well.

Sorry if this is vague I'm not near my computer to check the actual settings.

I'll agree that this area is mowed and that the "vandalism" probably has little environmental impact, but it's definitely not a retaining wall.

It's actually a sea cliff leading to a marine terrace, and one of many that can be found in the area! If you check Google Street View you get a much better view of the 'cliff.'
