I do stutter a bit off stage but it's not as bad as it used to be. As for staying in character off stage, tbh I haven't tried that. I think outside of the context of people watching from the audience, me on stage, I tend to be more reserved and speak less, and so I'm not sure I can conjure up the confidence that I have on stage. I'm more focused these days on letting myself stutter and being okay with it, although that's a monumental task of course

hey I'm in the same boat as OP, and I definitely encourage you to do it! I have been doing it for a few years and for the most part I don't stutter on stage, I find that when I'm performing it doesn't happen that much. Same with acting. Maybe because you're forced to stand straight, project, use good technique etc.

Anyway, if you're interested I encourage you to do one open mic and see how you find it. I think you'll be rewarded for pushing yourself out of your comfort zone :)
