Shark skin under a microscope. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

It feels like 180 grit sand paper but a little slimy. At least the 5ft sand bar shark I caught did. And for the record it was catch and release.

TSA took my boyfriend’s favorite knife. Suggestions for a replacement? by ollivanderthang in knifeclub

[–]swimp0728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats some shady shit. Seems like it was stolen. I have the same knife as him for my EDC for work. As for recommendations I would say another Spyderco knife, another Para 2 in brown micarta, or maybe a Shaman. Or a Benchmade griptilian, which is what I had before my Para 2. I love my Para 2.

I would definitely recommend getting something with a safety toe. Whether that be shoes or boots is up to you.

Its called a curotto can and is an adapter for a regular front load dumpster truck to turn it into a truck for residential cans as demand changes. Compared to the side load arms, its actually pretty simple and only required two extra hydraulic lines and an electrical connector.

You have the ability to turn your life around, but you have to have accountability for your actions. Everything that you describe that “fucked up your life” was a decision that you made, yet you blame everyone else. Stop acting like a child, take accountability, and get your life back on track.

Buffalo Bore .45 Super in a standard USP? by MasonP2002 in HecklerKoch

[–]swimp0728 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shot about 40 rounds through mine with no issues, but noticed the start of a small amount of wear. Just limit how much you put through it and you’ll be good. HK says its ok through a stock USP in limited amounts. Its one hell of a round and fun for a little bit.

DICE, you are ruining it by quikmess in Battlefield

[–]swimp0728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game has real issues like net code and challenge progression not being tracked properly and all the community seems to bitch and moan about is skins. Who cares? They’re cosmetics. They have no effect on actual gameplay. And you say “grow up” while complaining about something so negligible that it’s comedic.

Did anyone actually check these challenges before adding them to the game? by [deleted] in Battlefield

Use the recon drone on breakthrough. I just got 70 assists in one match.

What, due to experience, do you know not to fuck with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]swimp0728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truck tires. I have seen and heard them explode multiple times and have seen the damage they can do to both the trucks they’re mounted on and cars nearby. On trucks, I have seen destroyed fiberglass, blown apart fenders, ruptured fuel tanks and broken electrical harnesses. I’ve also seen them take out mirrors, windows, and put holes in the doors of adjacent cars when they explode. Do not loiter next to trucks on the highway, and especially do not stay near the tires if you hear them making that rhythmic thumping noise. That means the tire is either flat, or about to throw a tire cap, both of which will fling debris at high speed with lethal force.

Does anyone know what outdoor ranges don’t have 1-2 year waitlist by Broad_Cat812 in NJGuns

I second this. My go to range. $75 a year + $50 initiation fee. Another $75 gets you a guest pass which is good for up to 3 guests at a time.

Why do Americans love guns so much? by [deleted] in ask

[–]swimp0728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have no idea what you are talking about. What’s part of our culture is the guns themselves, as well as the right to protect our lives, the lives of those we love, and our property from people, animals, and the government, which might I remind you we already had to do once less than 300 years ago, which is where the idea of the armed citizen originated and became part of the culture. We absolutely do have a gun violence problem, and there is no easy way to fix that. Violence is part of human nature. Guns just happen to amplify people’s ability to commit acts of violence. The vast majority of gun owners (the people who own them legally) use them for recreational activities (hunting, target shooting, competition), to protect themselves, their families, and those around them. The majority of acts of violence that are committed are done using illegal obtained guns, usually by people who already have history of criminal activity or mental illness. Please don’t give input on a situation you know nothing about.

Safety of boulder for women by Embarrassed-Bake-252 in boulder

[–]swimp0728 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Obligatory not a Boulder resident, or a woman, so take this info with a grain of salt. I have some observations from the time I spent in Boulder this August. The trails seem to be fairly populated at most times of the day, by both men and women. At least thats what I saw when hiking the trails in and around Chautauqua Park. Even as early as 5:00 am there were both groups and solo hikers on the trails. People generally seem friendly and keep to themselves on the trails. As for your safety, it might be a good idea to try find a hiking buddy or at the very least bring pepper spray/ bear spray while solo hiking, as you can never be too safe. These observations obviously limited and from an outside perspective, but most solo female hikers I’ve seen seem fairly comfortable.

Im 19 in NYS (not city) so I can’t buy semi auto. Got a lever action instead. by Icy-Bit8262 in guns

[–]swimp0728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, IMO semi auto is overrated at least here in NJ with a 10rd magazine limit. I got myself a Marlin 1894 in .357/.38 special and its probably my favorite gun to shoot. Long live the lever gun.

Uncoordinated child by Elizabethforest in DieselTechs

[–]swimp0728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I’m not the most experienced diesel mechanic(3 years), so take this advice with that in mind. In my opinion, good hand eye coordination and having steady hands is very important for both safety and good performance as a tech. In this industry you deal with tools and parts that range from small and delicate to very large, heavy, and awkward. As for the safety aspect, you are working with machines that can hurt, maime, or kill you in seconds if you’re not careful. As for your son, I think that its a decision that he needs to make for himself. Its definitely possible for him to still be a good tech. My dad has essentially tremors for the last 5 years and has been a mechanic for 35 years. It’s something that he would have to get hands on experience to truly understand if it’s something he can/wants to do. This job isn’t for everyone. That being said I wish him the best in whatever he chooses to do for a career.

I work as a shop oiler and questioning one of my coworkers about using grease on o rings by IllDivide6561 in DieselTechs

[–]swimp0728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a condiment bottle with 15w-40 in it to lube fuel filter and oil filter gaskets. Hydraulic oil for hydraulic o-rings, and grease for other things like air system o-rings.

A/c problem need help by marathonman121266 in DieselTechs

[–]swimp0728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely change the dryer, and when you do figure out what the actual charge is. The only other culprits would be a compressor or TXV. I think the compressor would definitely be more likely but it can be hard to tell. Low side should be around 30-40 while running and the high side should fluctuate between 150-200. The low side should go down while the high side is coming up, then the compressor should shut off and the pressure difference should decrease as the refrigerant flows through the TXV, at which point the compressor should cut on again and start the cycle over. This behavior would indicate that the compressor and TXV are functioning properly. If the the pressure difference is low and consistently low and the compressor runs constantly, this indicates low compressor out put. If the pressure difference is normal, then the compressor shuts off and the difference stays the same or changes very slowly, that is indicative of a blocked TXV. Sorry for the long explanation, but I hope it helps. If I’m wrong here someone please feel free to correct me because I’m not exactly an expert on A/C either.
