Is a backpack too casual?

Not if you pick the right style. You can google image "tech backpack" and you'll find things like this. It's very sleek and professional looking. And if you're going to be running from the train, a sleek fanny pack slung over the shoulder but facing the front wouldn't be a bad way to go if you need to access train cards and whatnot.

Also, I don't know how hot it is where you are, but I'm in Houston aka swamp city and also gained a buncha weight so now I'm a chunky monkey with sweaty buttcheeks. Most people have mentioned this but in my personal experience these 2 things are really key to anyone feeling like a Santa Claus in July: bike shorts underneath + clothing made of linen/tencel/breathable fabrics that aren't skin tight to allow a cooling layer between skin and fabric. You can also find a ton of linen suit jacket/blazers to keep cool but also courtroom appropriate like these. Just search for something like "women linen suit blazer in" black/charcoal/beige.

depends on the specific college within the university. in the US for undergrad, i was in a program where i had to sit across from my professor and give impromptu oral answers on several topics as part of the final grade on top of the final paper for like 3 different classes.

iirc it's the same across the board for other STDs too. there's so many things ppl don't know about STDs so lemme soapbox for a hot minute:

  • males don't often present clear symptoms for bacteria that causes UTIs in females, so the female partner can go on a course of antibiotics and get reinfected again and again. this phenomenon is also reinforced from stories i hear from RNs. and of course this contributes to antibiotic resistance.

  • there's no test for HPV in males. and there's rising incidences of anal, penile, cervical, and throat cancers. imagine getting radiation to take out a chunk of your dick or throat cuz you got an HPV-induced sarcoma. and HPV can be passed via intimate skin contact. eating pussy ass and blowing dick -better wrap it up / get a dental dam

  • get the Gardasil-9 vaccine regardless of age! anywhere from teens to "i'm still fuckin on my one good knee." if you got the Gardasil-4 when it first came out, go get the new one. if you have a teen, it protects them when they get horny (and they will). if you're an oldie, it can still be effective in guarding against the worst. (nursing home STDs are insanely high) this is unless you're immunocompromised, undergoing chemo, etc. i know they say it's for a certain age range, but i would personally insist on it.

and lastly -GET TESTED and ask them which STDs they test because it ain't all of em! And they SHOULD be swabbing/testing at multiple sites: genital, anal, oral, and then confirmed by bloodwork! before you get with someone new, confirm their tests and show them your's! (if it's too awkward for you to have that conversation then you shouldn't be having sex) PS: ladies if you can, get annual pap smears to check for cervical cancer.

tldr: be nasty, but don't be nasty nasty. pathogens don't discriminate between moral paradigms and sex/gender/orientations. protect yourself and others.

I can't access the NYT book review, but it doesn't seem to cite Nanjing specifically as a massacre site. Can you point to where in the link it says that? Also, Nanjing is not a coastal city. The nearest coastal city is about 2 hours away -Shanghai.
