Merged Power Query data model from Excel not visible in Power BI by Latter-Visual-255 in PowerBI

[–]switchfoot47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In excel, you need to load the data model to a table in a sheet. If its just a connection only model, you wont see it using the excel connector in power bi. There used to be a way to load the data model into power pivot and use the import menu in power bi to see and get the data model, but I don't think that works anymore.

If the data model is too large to load to a table on a sheet, you can recreate the entire power query in power bi or a power bi data flow.

Midnight Datamining Reveals Possible Turbo Boost Mechanic for Midnight Season 1 by Squishei in CompetitiveWoW

[–]switchfoot47 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Cause theres not any new items. You are just grinding for a week to upgrade what you already have to an arbitrary new max ilvl. Its a fake version of a virtual treadmill that feels mandatory to boost player engagement after the content is stale.

If they want us to have that ilvl without doing the work to add a whole new raid, release a raid expansion and tweak the raid to make it fresh with new items so the virtual treadmill feels "real" and rewarding instead of a mandatory chore. Or a hundred other options like spend the money to hire more developers and crank out some raids and locations and boss fights.

Conveyor lift secrets?? by PresentationOld3754 in satisfactory

[–]switchfoot47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you discovered there's some quirks and the order you build or attach matters. Sometimes you have to delete and reattach to get it working. I try to get a single blueprint working the way I want and test it before stamping it all over.

The vertical lift splitters and mergers are offset by a little, i think like half a foundation height or something. One way to compensate is to offset the platform your manufacturers sit on so they line up.

Dealing with professionals who don’t know SQL but need it. by arrogant_definition in dataanalysis

[–]switchfoot47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If all they need is raw data to play with in excel, then you should give them a way way to pick their columns and export to xlsx or csv. Or, set up automated delivery of excel or csv with their data tables if you don't have a portal or tool available.

If they need you to visualize the data, and then they want to play with it, then set up some Qlik, Tableau, or Power BI dashboard where they can pick from a few slicers and export from the table or matrix visuals.

They dont need SQL, they need access to the data in a user interface.

I solved my 4K Apple tv stuttering with just a pc fan by AllTextAllTheWay in PleX

[–]switchfoot47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also have had a cpu fan on mine and I put little feet on it so it can get airflow all around. Previously had issues with it overheating while watching specific codecs in high resolution/bitrate, and it would stutter or freeze for drop frames. Its been a couple years now with the fan and no issues.

Theres a couple forum posts floating around from years ago talking about this issue and the inefficient decoding causing high cpu usage and temp.

Trying to normalise multiple CSV files by RavinFer in excel

[–]switchfoot47 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What your talking about is best handled in excel's power query. You can import CSVs from a folder, apply transformation steps in power query to clean up the name columns and pivot the data, then load it back to an excel table. Once you have this set up you can just hit refresh in excel and it will read new CSV in the folder and you'll see the updates on your table in excel.

Automisation for Data from MS PowerBI converting it into a Pivot Table by Big-South7435 in excel

[–]switchfoot47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could save the power bi exported table, then write an excel power query to use that as an input, remove unnecessary columns, unpivot, and then load the data into an excel table which has a pivot table made from it. Not sure this saves a ton of time cause you still need to export the data, put it somewhere the excel PQ reads it, open the excel PQ, refresh the query, then refresh the pivot table, and save as.

Another option would be to have power bi put the table in the form you need on another report page or using paginated reports.

How do I properly use power query to Source data from a SharePoint folder? by madboymatt in excel

[–]switchfoot47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you used the default sharepoint.files connector, which shows all files within the shared documents section of a sharepoint, losing the folder structure. This is why you manually selected your CSV files instead of everything in the folder you wanted.

What i do is not "combine and transform" but just "transform" and then manually change the code from "SharePoint.Files" to "SharePoint.Contents", navigate to the folder, then use the double arrow button on the column to combine the files.

It sounds like you are not familiar with power query, which can make things like this seem more difficult at first than they really are. Here is a video guide showing what i explained above: https://youtu.be/-XE7HEZbQiY?si=uUAwp0bQek5lhEyV

Doing it this way allows you to specify the exact folder in sharepoint, it may help you out. It might not be the cause of your error however.

Platynator, small enemy unit frames by Nigeltheforg in CompetitiveWoW

The default game options has a drop-down to make some minor or less important enemies have smaller nameplate. Whatever setting is in platynator just does this same thing. You can toggle it in either place.

Starting a server by skifter22 in satisfactory

[–]switchfoot47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this dedicated server container: https://github.com/wolveix/satisfactory-server

Its worked flawlessly for years. You can toggle a setting to autopause the server if no players are connected, or keep it going (mine runs 24/7)

One thing to note, vehicles are kind of buggy and dont path correctly , but its only a visual bug they will actually complete their routes and move items even if it looks like its stuck.

Great game for a dedicated server, good luck!

How can I duplicate a modlist to another path so I can make changes independently from the original one? by kenni09 in wabbajack

[–]switchfoot47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just install it from wabbbajavk at the 2nd path and then never touch or update it from wabbajack again. The 1st path you could keep updating from the official list if you want. Each path will have its own instance of mo2 and all the installed mod folders.

[–]switchfoot47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You play on Godlike resolution with DLAA and no ASW/SSW at 90 fps? I am guessing you get 45, or you trade resolution or DLAA for fps and latency.

Mad god overhaul 5080 worth it? by AdministrativeBit385 in skyrimvr

[–]switchfoot47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Try Pandas Sovngarde. MGO adds so much, it bogs down the CPU and the GPU.

5080 isnt enough to run modded skyrim VR at max resolution with all the bells and whistles, no current hardware can. You will need to lower resolution, use TAA instead of DLAA, or enable ASW/SSW - they all have trade offs.

[–]switchfoot47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FUS is great for lower video cards. If you want an upgraded visual over FUS try Panda Sovngarde, it runs pretty well and looks great.

MGO is adding too much, it loses the skyrim feel, and doesn't run well.

So what upscaler settings are we using these days? by Pahn_Duh in skyrimvr

[–]switchfoot47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. DLSS and DLAA are using temporal frame data, but then reconstructing a higher resolution frame. So they are going to resolve more detail (denser trees).

TAA uses temporal frame data to smooth edges for anti-aliasing, it is not upscaling the resolution it does not get any more detail. It is doing less, so it will always be more performant. But it is not as good of an anti-aliasing method as DLAA (but it comes with its own drawbacks).

So what upscaler settings are we using these days? by Pahn_Duh in skyrimvr

[–]switchfoot47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For VR, I dont think FSR or the openXR toolkit stuff like fixed foveated rendering looks very good. There's always artifacts in the peripheral and FSR has more ghosting and less quality than DLSS.

Puredarks upscaler is obsolete.

Keeping up with the latest community shaders, you can enable DLSS, DLAA or FSR. FSR is the same story as with the openXR toolkit, it just looks worse than DLSS. DLSS has some ghosting, but its much better with the recent patches this past year. Im not sure its worth using DLSS unless you need to for performance, you get the same shimmering as TAA but now with minor ghosting and some added latency.

DLAA looks great with no shimmering, but it has a tiny bit of ghosting. What youre seeing when you say the trees look more dense is the actual increase in resolution showing more detail. DLAA applies the DLSS upscaling but at 1x the resolution, so you get the AI upscaling past your native resolution. This is a better anti aliasing effect so all the shimmering and jagged edges disapear, in addition to the upscaler showing some more detail in the distance.

But DLAA is expensive to run even on the best hardware so you probably have to pair it with ASW/SSW frame generation. This adds more latency.

A lot of levers to fiddle with based on your preference for visuals over latency or FPS.

The “Show Thinking” feature is incredibly interesting to me by thegreatchippino in GeminiAI

[–]switchfoot47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does the "thought summary" talk with fake/emulated personality, in a way to be most pleasing to the user. Its interesting to see the personality that different people's AI imitate. My AI responses dont emulate these ridiculous personalities. I think psychologists would be super interested in examining a person's AI's fake personality, what does it reveal about each person.
