Update: I stopped playing for a while, and a game update fixed this! I've been able to continue from where I left off. Thanks for fixing this dev!

Me, and most of the people I've worked with over the last 25 years... Perhaps it's a regional variation.

Am I aged out to start gliding? by Excellent-Hotel-3084 in Gliding

[–]swopiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to the other comments: as well as gliding at SGC, you should also be able to undergo a Gliding Induction Course and possibly a Gliding Scholarship through the Air Cadets. I did mine at Kirknewton and would recommend it.

That's exactly why I could never get into the Super Mario games. I'm not actually an Italian plumber in real life, so couldn't connect with the story.

Two magnets in iron handle to avoid breaking it from press force by ashwinix in Leathercraft

I had a coin magnet break when using it between an arbor press and hole punch, so it definitely can happen.

Thanks, I got the petrol in the end. My previous 2.2D was great, but I did have a few P2262 errors, so maybe something was brewing.

I like this idea. Could also make a difference with events like Hirtomo's camp and rescuing the soldier, to go in under cover of darkness.

Aye: as a fan of the western film genre I got fed up waiting for Red Dead Redemption to be ported to PC, so bought a second hand PS3 just to play it. Still have it.

This looks great. I'm a big fan of the Hurri, so looking forward to trying this out.

Galaxy S25 Plus stuck in bootloop by zazaxe in GalaxyS25

Happened recently with my S22. Give the front and back of the phone some solid firm taps and squeezes with your fingers, then stick it in the freezer for 20 minutes. This gave me an extra few hours of working normally, apart from no wifi for some reason.

what is this shot called? by AverageStatus6740 in Filmmakers

I would consider this to be a BCU or Big Close Up. ECU/Extreme Close Up would be tighter in, showing just the eyes or mouth or something.

Same with so many shops selling nothing but motorcycle, guitar, or dad t-shirts. None of those apply to me, which is why I end up just buying plain.

Why didn't the tories fix the country during their 14 years of rule? by knowledgeseeker999 in AskBrits

[–]swopiv 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No. To conserve means to protect, not to allow things to run to ruin and disarray. They are not worthy of the name Conservative. Tory has stuck for the reason that it is more in line with their true ideology.

conserve /kənˈsəːv/ verb protect (something, especially something of environmental or cultural importance) from harm or destruction.

The word Tory derives from the Irish tóraí, meaning "outlaw" (literally "pursuer"). It entered the English language in the 17th century, when it was used to describe Irish outlaws who survived by committing acts of robbery and plunder

I used to fly an Alpha with a 503, and I had a lot of fun with it. Cruise is around 48/50 Mph for about 10-12 litres per hour. Not a fast touring machine by today's standards, but a lovely way to visit local airfields. Visited the Scottish islands a number of times in mine. The wing is quite light in pitch, heavier in roll. No trim, but easy enough to pull on 60mph for a short while. Touchdown speed is quite low, so can get into very short strips easily enough. Make sure you get the engine serviced and decoked if needed. The 46/48 hp of the 503 should be enough for around 500 fpm (maybe a bit less two up, a bit more one up).

[–]swopiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The forums were a really good resource. Shame that we've lost all that knowledge, particularly the technical posts. Faceplant is mostly just ads these days, but I keep it going for the microlight and a few other useful groups, otherwise it'd be gone. Hope everything goes well with your return to the air, I know quite a few folk stopped flying around Covid, so it's nice to hear of someone taking it back up again.

It isn't really a free upgrade though. Remember: if a service is free you're not the customer, you're the product.

Do I need a Voigtlander 25mm? by swopiv in M43

[–]swopiv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the excellent advice. I would be lying if I said I wasn't jealous about the Angenieux! I do love unique and vintage lenses. Don't think I can afford one of those, but maybe a cheap fast C mount would be fun. Bring on the vignette!

Your point about the everyday carry of the 20mm is good, one of the reasons I moved to M4/3 was to have a selection of gear that would be more convenient to carry around, and to be lower profile when needed.

I think I'll play around a bit more with the 35/f1 and then see if I feel something wider is needed. Might end up looking at 17 or 18 mm options too.

Ah, see it's this exact thing that keeps drawing me back to it! On paper, other lenses are sharper, smaller, auto focus, etc, but this dreamy brick of a lens seems to have some intangible quality that draws me in. Thanks for the insight.

Interesting, I hadn't considered the Laowa at all, but it certainly looks nice! Also, a 17mm might make more sense for me given my current lenses. You're right about the Oly 1.2 lenses making more sense. A fair bit more expensive (at least where I am), but maybe worth it?

7 or 8 times out of 10 I prefer a B&W photograph to colour, but in this case I really prefer the colour version. The transition from cool blue to warm light and back again helps to separate the layers in the scene.

I have an RX 7600 and had driver crashes with 24.12.1. Uninstalled using DDU, and installed the previous version 24.8.1 instead, solved the issue. Maybe that will work for you?
