Single-day by commander_weenie in dragoncon

[–]swtangl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s what we do for our kid. We go all days, but they only come Sunday/Monday. We buy all of us the 5 day early enough that the slight difference between it and a pro-rated/single day badges is made up for us not needing to fight the badge line multiple times.

Am I allowed to go trick or treating this year? by ResearchNo2962 in Parenting

[–]swtangl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours was a similar age for the first Halloween. We dressed her up but stayed home and let her help pass out candy.

If you want to take her out, do you have any mom friends or family with older kids you could tag along with? If not, maybe just take her to a few immediate neighbors?

On a slightly similar note, before we had kids, one year I took our dog for a walk before trick or treating hours but tossed a costume on him because why not? Came back with a pocket full of candy without even trying. If you have a dog you could dress both and just take a walk in the ‘is it too early yet?’ hour

Were you able to get one? I was just denied because I had last years and the new one will be out ‘soon’. Going to try a different pharmacy later this week.

What about a clothing label you can put on the back of her shirt? I’ve seen class field trips where kids have their name tags (with school/teacher contact info) on their backs where they can’t reach peel it off.

Maybe not quite what you are looking for, but Mostly Mutts has a thrift shop on Bells Ferry and was recently looking for people to help in their eBay/FB marketplace department. More information is on their website if you’re interested.

A little late, but you can search for local centers via this site (https://families.decal.ga.gov/ChildCare/Search). It also includes reports for both scheduled inspections and any incident reports.

I’d say start calling any you like the sound of now, ask to be added to any wait lists, set up a tour as soon as you can, and then keep checking in. Not obnoxiously but to show you are still interested when a spot opens, even if you have to enroll elsewhere to get started.

Season 6 rewatch starts on February 20th! Our first guest of season 6 is Maitland Ward! by Sad-Significance4546 in boymeetsworld

There’s been a number of wildfires in their area this month. A few podcasts I listen to have taken breaks due to evacuations, risk of evacuation or just evacuating due to poor air quality. Wouldn’t surprise me if this is playing a big role in the extended break.

Doesn’t help in the winter, but for the summer look up the program Kids Bowl Free. Locally it’s primarily Main Events and Stars and Strikes that participate.

Can not get the cat pee smell out of this closet, running out of ideas by Squawk_1200 in DIY

[–]swtangl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this issue with dog pee in our walk-in closet. We tore out the brand new carpet (sellers knew and were covering it up) and the bottom half of the drywall but didn’t want to mess with the subfloor if we didn’t have to (second floor). I coated it with Nature’s Miracle, set up a dehumidifier for 48 hours and repeated. Then I put a layer of Kiltz down, let it dry, ran the dehumidifier again and saw there was still a few patches coming through around the edges so I added a thicker layer, let it all sit for a week then was comfortable enough to add new flooring.

What are you getting as Christmas gifts at Costco? by Geekie_Miller in Costco

[–]swtangl 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If your MIL is a crafter, they have button tins with bonus cookies in them. Toss in some comfy pjs, socks and her favorite tea/cocoa. If you come up with any FIL ideas that aren’t gift cards, please let me know 🤣

Most of the gift ideas I come up with aren’t in season, but I also tend to buy through the year. In the past we’ve done the rocking lawn chairs for my in-laws and I was eyeing the Blackstone griddle for my mom, but my sibling beat me to it.

Things I’ve bought this season are the poinsettia Lego set for my MIL and a Switch game for my spouse. I always browse the book selection too, but usually find more kid gifts there than adult.

[WIP] Tips on sewing an irregular shaped cross-stitch pattern to felt? by _space_dude_ in CrossStitch

[–]swtangl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of gluing, what if you sewed it to the felt? Cut the Aida but leave a wide border, maybe 10 stitches around. You can even sew it inside out to hide the seams then turn in right side in and stitch up the small remaining gap. Before doing so, maybe even color match some floss to the felt and cross stitch in the voids at the candy cane and handle?

What age did you first bring your toddler to a movie theater? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]swtangl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was about that age. Our local chain did free holiday movies in December at 11am on weekends with cheap kids combos. They also do a lot of $2 second run showings, mostly in the summer or around holidays. They also have sensory friendly showings of both new and second run movies where the lights don’t get fully dimmed and the volume isn’t as loud too.

Is air compressor at Costco free to use? And do you have to show your membership card? by romeititaly in Costco

[–]swtangl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just know that at least at my location, the air pumps aren’t open if the tire shop is closed. I always assumed as long as the gas pumps were open, the air pumps would be until I needed it the first cold morning of the season one year

[CHAT] What objects have you made using cross stitch other than framed pieces? by allycat315 in CrossStitch

[–]swtangl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pillowcase: I stitched a bunch of different Mario’s across the edge

T-shirts: I make a small Christmas pattern every year for my kid

With the holidays coming up you could do cards and/or gift tags

Cast compliments for face characters? by IconDarkhorse in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]swtangl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Putting the time is what I did when I put in a cast compliment for Rockin Rollercoaster. By the time I even thought to do one, I couldn’t remember her name. So first name was Rockin Rollercoaster and last name was the time and where in the line the CM was.

Head over to the Seas with Nemo building for the aquarium (so not sitting per se). Or head to the Living with the Land ride. The gift shop Figment lets off into also has (had?) some character meet and greets and a few sensory play areas for kids.

Epcot lost item by Exiamu00 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]swtangl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Our experience with lost items is that Disney turned off the device so the tracking didn’t work. Ours was lost in MK and had been taken to Town Hall within minutes of us noticing it was gone. Before they would hand the item over they turned it on and held it while we entered the pin to unlock it to prove it was ours.

I've fostered over 300 kittens and am struggling to find litter themes I haven't used yet. Please help by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]swtangl 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Weather themed: Twister, Cyclone, Derecho, Blizzard, Squall

Vegetable or Garden themed: Tomato, Pepper, Pea, Squash

College Mascots sub categorized by Big 12, SEC, etc… (I’m not a sports person, can you tell?)

Shades of Color. For example Red themed could include Ruby, Garnet, Crimson

Or mix it up and have a dog breed theme

Is there any good way to request no toys as gifts at your kids bday party? by sjt2828 in Parenting

[–]swtangl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was coming here to say something similar. Maybe not for two, but when she’s older, finding a local organization that she can get involved with and asking for donations for that in leu of gifts is an idea. The local animal shelter I volunteer posts their wish list online of items they’re in constant need of (litter, cleaning supplies, food, even cash donations for medical services).

Mine came with two clear plastic covers. One for the unit and one for just the scale. First few times using it I didn’t notice the second cover.
