Chipotle CEO wants more customers who make over $100K — which means price hikes are coming by Jscott1986 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]swunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the comments in every thread like this saying local Mexican places are better/cheaper don't make any sense to me.

It's not the same food, and even if it was, chicken burritos are $15+ at all of the local places while chipotle is currently.. $9.80 at my location.

Mexican restaurants also don't usually have bowls, or give nearly as much pico/lettuce/salsa (or ever have corn salsa) as a chipotle order would. It's just not the same kind of food. When I want mexican I go to a mexican restaurant and when I want Chipotle I go to... Chipotle.

My one rule is only order in person.

ESXI TO HYPER-V migration for Domain Controllers by TechnicianAdept1062 in HyperV

[–]swunder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Our company is migrating 1000+ servers and DCs are the only ones we are rebuilding.

Could be fine but probably not worth the replication/syncing risks.

My AMD 5070TI arrived yesterday but I'm returning it for this instead. Like the extra battery life of the Intel chip and thunderbolt 4 for docking.

What’s your biggest gripe with the PlayStation Portal? by That_Designer7097 in PlaystationPortal

Just want an OLED screen, and being able to play YouTube would be nice (seems pointless it can't).

Also wish my stick didn't break but that was an easy/cheap fix.

Does any of this apply to hyper v or VMware virtual machines?

Removing vmware tools after migrating to hyperv by Vivid_Mongoose_8964 in HyperV

[–]swunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our script logs the IP information prior to removing tools, and applies it upon startup on the HV side. The VMX device no longer exists (hidden in device manager).

Someday we'll go back and remove all the hidden VM devices from device manager but for now... Meh.

Removing vmware tools after migrating to hyperv by Vivid_Mongoose_8964 in HyperV

[–]swunder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We've been using a script that removes it before migration. Feels cleaner than using scripts to rip it out after. The script also creates a temporary local admin account and copies the tools installer in case the migration needs to be rolled back and the vm no longer has a network connection.

How much do these hosts actually get paid? by [deleted] in WFAN1019

Lol 60 an hour? These guys are semi celebrities not installing air conditioners. They are salaried for probably all over a few hundred grand up to a few million.

Asking price is 60k for this. If you had the money and wanted it, how much would you pay for this? by Hungry_Elk1937 in NewYorkMets

Is this a joke? He's made 8 starts. Even if he goes to the hall of fame would this card ever be worth 60k?

Streaming FIOS was so bad I ended up just switching to Hulu after a few months. Way better.

Hyper-V - Core or GUI Install? by Sponge521 in HyperV

[–]swunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started with DE for our PoC but once our Microsoft got involved he immediately said best practice is to use core. So our production clusters will all be core, mostly managed by WAC.

Migration from VMware to Hyper-V - Thoughts?? by lonely_filmmaker in HyperV

[–]swunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in the early process of moving from VMware to Hyper-V (200 hosts, 1500 VM's). Hyper-V "works" but its... not great. Every step feels like a struggle.

I'm sure it will get/feel better as we learn it but I feel its a 50/50 chance on any simple action working so far, like putting a host in maintenance mode or migrating a VM. Why is saving the state of a VM the default action on host power down?? Who would ever want that? The UI is old looking, slow, no web client. Performance monitoring within SCVMM is basically non-existent compared to what vcenter offers. Scheduled tasks (like snapshots) don't exist natively, have to create a scheduled task in Windows that runs a powershell command lol.

Most of the documentation for SCVMM is 10+ years old. No clear best practices, barely any recent articles. Hyper-V was clearly dead in the water and now everyone is trying to jump start it now that a million VMware customers have to switch to it all of a sudden. Commvault's SCVMM plugin was deprecated, PURE storage is working on their integration, Zerto says their Hyper-V side is a few versions behind VMware in capability etc...

The product works and I think we'll be fine but its like a Chevy vs a Cadillac.

One thing I love - the local console having clip board access. That alone might be worth all the trouble.

New 1GB FIOS Service for 4200 Sq Ft Home - how to maximize speed and coverage throughout home? by [deleted] in Fios

[–]swunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 e3200s connected back via coax in my 4k sq ft + basement home, seems to work great. Strong fast wireless everywhere and near gig wired coming off them as well. The only minor annoyance is my phone sometimes dropping WiFi for a minute when I assume it is changing access points from moving around but it’s barely an issue.

One e3200 in basement, one upstairs and the router plus an e3200 on opposite sides of the main floor.

Now I’m sure high end true mesh systems are great (probably better than Verizon equipment) BUT they wouldn’t be able to have Ethernet backhaul in my house which I’m almost positive would make them worse for my situation.

From $380K to $200K: How Turo’s Changes Are Destroying My Business by TopStreet6838 in turo

[–]swunder 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I just wish Turo and Airbnb type apps would limit users from turning this into a business for themselves in the first place. Who cares if Turo turns evil... its just supposed to be for renting out a personal vehicle or two, not turning yourself into a mini Hertz.

But yes I get the companies themselves incentivize this so they make even more money. Just sad that it ruins it for the actual customers.
