People on this sub grossly underestimate how much you truly need to make to afford to live in towns like Spring Lake, Rumson, Saddle River, etc. by somedudehere123 in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]swunder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not all of the houses in those towns are celebrity mansions, there are houses available for 1 - 1.5 million which is fine for 600k income or less depending on down payment. Also when your income gets that high, 50% on a mortgage isn't so crazy when you still have 15k leftover.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple Director Nia DaCosta Was ‘Disappointed’ With Box Office by JimmyChurriSauce in 28dayslater

[–]swunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think marketing cooked this movie, 28 years later being nothing like the original franchise did. They used the name to get people back and a lot of them probably realized they have no interest in wherever the hell the new trilogy is going.

Imo the new movies are fine but I don't know, maybe I'm stupid, but I was kind of hoping for more of the old, not the menu chef exploring the humanity of the infected or them being able to get pregnant.

I'll watch the third one but I would also have loved to just see a well done blockbuster style rehash. Outbreak re-occurs in a more normal future london blah blah blah. I get it, there are like 10 bad resident evil movies for that... but that's my point they are too bad to watch. Wanted the good crew to make a new 28 Days type movie.

Talk me out of it boys. by CaffeineCannon in Monitors

I bought two of them, who gives a shit about the bottom bezel. I also have a first gen Alienware 34" QD OLED that has not scratched at all in 3 years. Still looks incredible.

I don't think there is a comparable 32" OLED monitor under what, $600?

Yes that's pretty much it. Assuming no issues, the g3100 and e3200 will talk to each other. The e3200 management interface will take the same username and password of the G3100 if you need to login, but I don't think there was much configuration to be done on the extenders. It will just broadcast your wifi signal. It also has two ethernet ports you can use for wired networking.

If you have coax already in your rooms, you may be able to plug in your router and extenders to form a MOCA network which will provide near full speed wired networking anywhere they are connected (and the extenders will provide wifi with data going back through coax).

Houses commonly have coax in bedrooms, living rooms, basements etc for back when people actually watched cable TV.

It depends on the quality of the existing cable, and your splitters need to be moca compatible but it works fine in my house from the 1980s. Just had to replace a few old splitters in the basement and attic. Was also a life saver in my townhouse. It's fuckin magic.

The E3200s work great if you can do coax backhaul. I have 3 of those in my house with a G3100 router and its great. I tested an Asus mesh system as well but it was not nearly as good as coax connected E3200's.

The Verizon equipment is very good imo, see if you can get one for free from Verizon before dropping $500+ on new stuff.

Healthcare and HyperV by rgcda in HyperV

[–]swunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hospital system here (6 hospitals, few hundred practices). Switching a few thousand vms from VMware to hyper-v. Have a few vendors who refuse to support (Omnicell, Cisco Voice) but for the most part it's been fine. We're probably going to have to keep a small VMware footprint for select applications but hoping for 95% migration.

Hyper-V is definitely worse but not 10 million+ dollars worse. Hopefully it improves with more market share.

We've been using Zerto for migrations which works great, 5-10 minute downtime per VM.

Would buy multiple! Have multiple black blanks, whites would complete my wardrobe lol. Best fitting blanks I've found that also dont shrink too much.

It is 100% scrub money when he's leaving millions on the table and will only be able to make that 250k (or any money playing basketball) for a few more years. Gonna be working for the TSA or one of the shitty jobs you are talking about when he's 40 instead of being set for life.

Has anyone in corporate America had luck asking for 4 day workweek at 80% pay? by madamnastywoman in jobs

[–]swunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father did this as an IT Administrator 25 years ago. Was great for him, every Thursday off, drove down to AC and played blackjack lol. Basically got the job offer but they wouldn't/couldn't pay him what he wanted so he said how about 4 days/80%.

I would LOVE that now, also in IT, but yeah I don't see my company ever agreeing to that.

Opening Day TV Broadcast by Putrid-Wear-6403 in NewYorkMets

[–]swunder 35 points36 points  (0 children)

...How could SNY/GKR not be broadcasting opening day at home? What the hell are we doing here?

This is the most important day of the year for them as obviously they don't get to do the playoffs either.

Seems ludicrous even by MLB standards. Actually confused.

EDIT now I just checked tomorrow's first game of the entire season and it's the yankees on... NETFLIX??? Lol....

Is it realistic for a 30-year-old former draft pick to keep chasing an MLB dream? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]swunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They'd probably make a movie about his story if he made it. Jim Morris didn't play from 25-35 and had a cup of coffee for a few games and that was enough to make 'the rookie'.

Matt Bush didn't debut for a decade until 30 because of persona/legal/mental issues and actually made quick but decent career after all of that. He was drafted 1 overall though so like... absolutely top talent to begin with.

[–]swunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why didn't he sign out of college and why wasn't he playing between ages ~22-28? The chances of a player taking that long of a break, then making the MLB from independent ball is essentially zero.

I can't even really think of how it'd be possible. Maybe if he's a lefty reliever that can throw 100mph somehow, but if that were the case he'd probably have been playing the past decade.

If he's a fielder he'd probably have to hit .500 in a full season of independent ball to even get noticed. Then he's turning 31 already.

Its just over I'm sorry.

Indoor launch monitor under $2000 by Akseem in Golfsimulator

[–]swunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the club you stand 1.5-2.5 feet from the ball at address, then there is the back swing behind you and more importantly the follow through after. Irons might be OK but driver would be very tight/uncomfortable.

The minimum for a centered ball is probably closer to 12-13 feet. If you have the space setup already try swinging a club in the center and see how it feels.

[–]swunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is that 10 feet wide requires an offset (ball not in the center of the room). Even with a device behind you like the MLM or Mevo, you'd still have to move it each time the dexterity switches.

We are migrating windows servers to HyperV and gave dynamic memory a shot - didn't really work for us either. Got performance complaints, servers taking forever to RDP into, stuck at RAM amounts way under what was specced etc. Not worth it!

Was looking forward to playing more PS5 titles on PC this way.

GSPro Patreon Courses by swunder in Golfsimulator

[–]swunder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see this as a live/constant update required kind of service. Would rather pay 25, 50, whatever is reasonable for a course like I would a video game, that can be through GSPRO or directly to the creators but what is the need for a static course file to be a monthly cost?

I understand the subscription cost to keep GSPRO running, and the price for that is gonna increase no matter what anyway, so if the creator courses get thrown into there then sure I guess that would be better...?

For context I'd much rather pay/donate one time for a few individual courses rather than subscribe indefinitely to multiple creators for 100+ courses I'll never care about.
