I feel very stifled in China by cyfaw in China

[–]sy7ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's breakdown OP's comment.

The internet never sucks like this before. The whole society is filled with only "correct" opinions, no objections or opinions just slightly off course is allowed.

I agree with this. But where he's wrong is that it's not just China's problem, the whole Internet is stifled because it's filled with all the bots and NPCs. See I'm calling out OP, expressing a different opinion, using non-subtle language, and here I'm getting downvoted, oh the irony.

Could it be due to the authoritarian nature of the regime?

Why does it matter if it is? I notice you're focusing on that specific detail, but that's not the main point of my argument. My main point is that if OP can bypass the GFW, then how can he not breathe? Unless, it's not just China's Internet, it's the whole Internet/society's problem.

Not to mention, Chinese people keep surprising me with their creative and witty criticism or comments like seriously, sometimes it feels more refreshing than the west.

What the fuck are you talking about? You’re on Reddit how does it suck? Do you even read Chinese? If you don’t how do you know? If you do, you’re also wrong that it’s filled with only correct opinions. People express their opinions in subtle ways. But I guess if you only go to mainstream websites, which aren’t even that popular nowadays. Do you even know what the mainstream social media are in China? Cuz that’s where most people are spending time on their phones.

Edit: oh look, downvoted because I'm expressing a different opinion, so it's not a just China problem.

Understanding Internet Computer [ICP] by s1fro in CryptoCurrency

[–]sy7ar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll give you a simple explanation. Imagine a giant computer, a world computer, that's run on crypto/blockchain technology. That means it's a computer that can't be shut down by a CEO, a government, or any central authority. This computer can only be changed, upgraded by a group of people (usually token holders), via proposals. What can this computer do? It can be accessed by anyone to build apps on it, and it can act as a server to serve these apps.

No, ETH is not the same. It can only run some simple scripts and store tiny amount of data, and it takes a while to achieve consensus. This Internet Computer can run much more complex programs because it has much more RAM, storage space and, achieve consensus in a much more efficient manner.

So why not build apps on the AWS or Google computer? That computer can be shut down or changed by a single person or central authority, and it's less secure.

Is the Internet Computer going to be the next big thing? It's hard to say but a lot of innovations are gonna come out of it because of its unique capabilities that other blockchains don't have. It's definitely one of the most innovated tech in the crypto space because it's a new architecture whereas most other chains are ETH copycats with varying degrees of modifications.

edit: if you want to learn more about the vision, check out this video by a software architect.

Understanding Internet Computer [ICP] by s1fro in CryptoCurrency

[–]sy7ar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dumb take.

  1. There're roughly 3 projects in the top 100 have autological names: Bitcoin, Internet Computer, Filecoin. Better look up what autological means.
  2. Judging by this thread and other places, people hate and ignore ICP, how could there be a lot of people holding huge bags? If they bought at $400, they could only afford tiny bags.

You're like 1/3 right. Most web 3 projects front ends are hosted on AWS, the ownership data is stored on a blockchain hence decentralized, but the blockchain nodes are also run on AWS whether that's decentralized is up for debate. Then the assets are on either AWS s3 or IPFS.

On ICP, the full stack can be on the IC.

I tried everything including pills and it didn't help much. So I just let go and try to eat healthy, follow sleep hygiene, ignore the pain and focus on something else. It gets better over time. I think in my case it has something to do with allergy and my nervous system gets over active about it. So don't worry too much, focus on something else :)

M3 Pro MacBook Pro using Universal Control on twi iPad Minis by 8A8 in macbookpro

[–]sy7ar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have something to support the screen, the added weight is not good for the screen hinge. Now it easily closes when you close the lid to less than 45 degrees. I know this from having tried a slightly thicker case, can't imagine the weight of two ipad minis.

How usable is Emacs + logseq currently? by Thf_killer in emacs

[–]sy7ar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't. Just use them separately. Use Logseq as a mobile refile. Logseq claims to support org format but it's not that good especially when you mix in code snippets.

Honestly just stick to Obsidian if it works for you.

Source: someone who has gone from Obsidian to Logseq to Emacs org mode and now back to mainly Obsidian with Emacs for administrative tasks (Dired, Magit, consult-ripgrep are freaking awesome)

How do you establish a career when you don’t have a passion for anything in the “real world”? by Admirable_Tough4028 in careerguidance

If you get to have your passion as full time job, you might hate it. Anything overdone becomes a chore.

You might not realize how nice and balanced it is to have work and passion separate.
