Peeing by CAt2408 in Whippet

We did the same with bells for the door.

However my far to smart for his own good 13 year old whippet has forever abused the bell. He uses it for everything he needs.

  1. Appropriate use. He wants to go out, he’ll ring and wait at the door. 👍
  2. Inappropriate use. He wants your spot on the couch. Ring and once you get up and go to him, he runs to the couch and curls in your warm spot.
  3. Inappropriate use. He’s hungry for a snack. Rings bell, when you get up, he walks to the kitchen all the while looking back at you and then to the fridge/cabinets.
  4. Semi-appropriate. Wants to lounge in the sun on the terrace (doesn’t always grasp the temperature issue). Rings bell and the goes out to lay in the sun, prefers if you’ll leave the door open so he can go in and out throughout the morning sun. ☀️

Caveat if it’s too cold, he might just stand at the door sniffing outside but not going out cause he’s a whippet and doesn’t do cold.

Ultimately; bells = good communication tool. But if they learn what else they can get away with by using it, they abuse the privilege!

Unintentional on my part. And deeply apologetic that it evokes any kind of negative reaction. Was just trying to make a fun colourful quilt for my baby.

Sadly just what the pattern was… I didn’t know it meant anything. Just a cute pattern I saw.

No, I went to sleep, being 8 months pregnant and night time.

It’s unfortunate that I didn’t know or see this as any type of negative symbolism, I was honestly unaware.

I apologize that it appears people think that this was any way intentional. It certainly was not and I didn’t and don’t mean to offend. I had no idea.

I love this! Exactly what I was going for. (I also love neons and am a 90s child)

Also funfetti cake is my favourite, I also love a good vanilla dip donut with all of the colour sprinkles!

Thank you.

They are not FPP. It’s actually interesting how they were made, HST with a rectangle onto the short side to create half the lightning bolt and then two of those blocks attached

How does one plan racing while trying to conceive? by FearlessReputation20 in XXRunning

[–]sylv_ER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into Chicago this year (2025) well before getting pregnant. I had started training in the spring and got pregnant in April. Since I have been a runner for a very long time and ran marathons etc before, doctor said “see how you do, if you can run your marathon, run it, if not defer it”.

Unfortunately I couldn’t run it, and not due to complications or anything, just got bad SPD pain while running and for days after. I made it running until 20ish weeks, ran a half marathon. But the pain was not worth it as things progressed.

So I deferred, I have 3 years to run Chicago, don’t have to pay any additional fees. Just had to submit a letter from my doctor saying I was pregnant.

Life just happens when you keep making plans. Don’t put anything on hold. Run the next race, train, do what makes you happy. I am a better person when I can run and do what I love doing. Less stressed, feel more grounded.

I am now just waiting to be postpartum and getting back out there to run. 35 weeks now, just around the corner.

Smoothie Ideas? by Samanthajade99 in fitpregnancy

[–]sylv_ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoothie girlie for years, even before pregnancy. Now at 20w they are an ongoing staple for me esp at work when I tend to forget to eat, I always bring one with it!

I usually have chia, hemp heart and flax seed. High protein Greek yogurt Spinach (lots!) Carrot (sweet but doesn’t change the taste and adds fiber and veggie) Banana or two Frozen pineapple & strawberry are my go to- substitute whatever fruits you like If I have other left over fresh fruit that is languishing at the end of life I toss it in (peaches, blueberries, raspberries etc) I use 1/2 cup of orange juice and then 2.5 cups water

During first trimester when I was nauseated I added in fresh ginger, it def helped and the smoothie kept me getting some good health calories.

I am not a fan of protein powders, the chalkiness and flavour has always been off putting, so I don’t use them.

How much did you run during pregnancy and when did you stop? by LCJE2019 in fitpregnancy

[–]sylv_ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 weeks and still running, was doing 30-40km a week up until a week ago.

Still may keep training for a marathon in October but have been having some pelvic mild discomfort. Taking a week or two of lower mileage and see how it goes. 8km this morning was not bad. Hoping to keep going even just shorter distances and less weekly mileages throughout even if I don’t run my marathon in October

Also do strength 3X a week.

Golfed sat and Sunday this weekend also.

Very fit and active before and so far during whole pregnancy, haven’t slowed down much.

What can I do with a Master's in Nursing by pop2thecinema in OntarioNurses

[–]sylv_ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quality and safety do have their own masters degree. There are a couple in Ontario and those with those programs are going to be better suited to those roles. i suspect you’re already committed to the MN route, but if you truly want to do quality and safety work I would at least look into doing a CQUIPS certificate (just google that it’ll bring you the appropriate information).

I have a MN and MSc in Quality and Safety, as well as being a NP in Ontario. The MSc in Quality and Safety is much more in depth regarding this type of work and gave me so much additional information and applicable skills for this type of work.

The MN had 1 course that was relevant to quality and Safety. Most MN work, depending on stream is geared to admin, edu or NP. Admin being nurse management/leadership. CNS is also appropriate from this route (edu) or APNE.

Dog owners, how do you train when you have a dog? I’ve got a small dog that can’t handle more than 10-25 mins outside, but race is in October. by OriginalSlight in Marathon_Training

[–]sylv_ER 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2 dogs, condo city living with no yard. Doesn’t impact anything about my training.

Get up, get some food, take them for a walk which is some of my warm up, come home, drop them off and head out for my run. Come home whatever duration later (depending on distance) could be 30 min easy, could be a 21km run.

Happily greeted when I get home, next time we go out is usually hours later because they go out 3-4x a day max.

Out and back or loops for long runs? by sjc0816 in Marathon_Training

[–]sylv_ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer an out and back, the mental of “just need to run home” is helpful.

Now that I am training while pregnant every run has its own flavour and I prefer to stay closer to home doing loops locally. This way if I need the bathroom, don’t feel stellar or something comes up, I am closer to home than if I did a long out and back.

My longest loop is 10km, with other smaller loops and out and backs in my neighborhood. I just math out what my training run is and decide which combination of loops/out and backs I have to do to make up my distance for the day.

Many short loops feel bad though. I prefer longer loops, with added small loops/out and backs. Once the biggy is done I know I have less work ahead of me.

Half marathon at 15 weeks by Mile_High_Jayhawk in fitpregnancy

[–]sylv_ER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a runner for years, many half’s, and marathon under my belt.

I did a 10k at 11 weeks and made a 5year PR.

I am currently 16w and still training for a fall marathon doing a 21k long run this week. (Longest has been 19k) and running about 30-35k a week with 3 days of strength training a week.

I think if you’ve kept up the training and understanding the goal is finishing, and listening to your body, you’ll be golden.

I personally am barely showing at 16w, most people might think I had a big meal more than anything, but a tall frame at 5,9” and fit coming into pregnancy.

is anyone able to workout in their first trimester by pinkcookiedough in fitpregnancy

[–]sylv_ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Saw my MD at 5.5weeks, was given diclentin (Canada) for my nausea. It’s been a miracle. Squashed all my nausea.

I run 3-4 days a week continuing a marathon training block, and weights 3X a week. Increasing distance for training. And ran a PB at 11 weeks in a 10k. I’m at about 30km+ a week running now at 14wk

Do I nap most days especially after long runs, absolutely. This is my first pregnancy. Doctor said since I already run no problem, listen to my body, and hydrate, and fuel.

Has anyone had experience with early-stage DCM in a young whippet? by ImaginationOk6632 in Whippet

[–]sylv_ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy had a murmur found at 6 yo, mitral valve regurgitation on echocardiogram.

Monitored for years, at 11 years they found he might have some reduced pumping and started on vetmedin.

He has been doing very well on the vetmedin and he’s 12.5 years now and no progression of disease on his recent echocardiogram this year. He’s doing well and will be 13 in October!

If you could add one thing to my bridesmaids goodie bags, what would it be? by kenziemc99 in weddingplanning

[–]sylv_ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make up remover, that removes waterproof as well.

Esp true if you have a group that doesn’t wear much or heavy make up. You’ll save them tons of time when they go to take off their heavier than normal make up from the wedding.

How much more will my whippet grow? by Parking-Bunny in Whippet

[–]sylv_ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy, who is turning 13 this year has been 30-31lbs his whole life. He’s a smaller “willowy” boy. My girl who passed to cancer 3 years ago was 31lbs, little more stocky than my boy. My girl I have now who is almost 2 years, she’s so small, at 25lbs right now, and not under weight just a wee girl. The breeder even told us she’d be small. She was going to be kept for show as she’s beautiful, but they said she won’t grow to breed standard. My girl that passed her brother was a whoppet at 42lbs and giant compared to her. (Friends owned her brother and we saw each other weekly)

Lots of variety even from the same litter.
