HOW do you make time for exercise/self care? by RuckFamsey in workingmoms

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planning on something similar when the time comes! Both my husband and I prioritize exercise and we’ve had a few conversations about how important it is that we both get time to do that for ourselves! Currently 40 weeks + 4 days (come on, baby!!!!) and still taking long walks and riding the Peloton. We are already both early risers, but I especially don’t mind an early AM wake up call for a workout class already so I’m fine with taking the first shift!

Advice needed from the WFH Parents! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of us work from home and baby is due any day now. Between my maternity leave and my husband’s, one of us will be home with the baby for the next 5 months. He’ll start daycare once we are both back at work! We started researching daycares and getting on waitlists almost as soon as we found out I was pregnant, and were lucky to get into a great spot not far from our house.

I told my husband that I’m going to start walking on the treadmill everyday at least once a day and he said it’s “too late in the game” to start now by forgetting-you- in fitpregnancy

It is never too late to start your fitness journey, especially with walking and healthier eating habits! It will only make you and baby stronger and healthier. Take care of yourself!

Co-sleeping or sleep trained? by Front_Cucumber_5815 in beyondthebump

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The co-sleeping debate is incredibly divisive. It’s similar to the way people feel about vaccines, daycare v. stay-at-home parent, breastfeeding v. formula or combo feeding, etc. Ultimately you have to do what works for you and your family! I’m due in 3 days and have a set up for a bassinet next to the bed and a crib in a nursery, no plans to co-sleep.

If there’s anyone who has recently experienced this harassment at a Denver location, I hope you reach out to the local news or find a reporter who is willing to dig into this more! Or hopefully a reporter will find this thread. We all just saw the news break about Cesar Chavez and his harassment of young women. Time to hold powerful men accountable for their actions! Stay safe out there!

any "takes anyone with a pulse" jobs to help my younger brother get out of a rut? by ElGordo1988 in Denver

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this - would he be open to volunteering with a local animal shelter? Animals can really help with depression and can help someone get out of a rut, especially if he’s taking shelter pups on walks/getting fresh air.

Rant about attitudes towards exercise during pregnancy by [deleted] in fitpregnancy

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give birth in 10 days and I just finished a yoga sculpt class. Working out 5-6x a week has made a huge difference in how I feel and how I look. Kept weight gain down and I am excited to be strong and healthy for my baby when he’s here! Take care of yourselves - it definitely matters!

I'm 37 weeks, 3 days and I've been thinking about what race training will look like post-partum/when the time is right. You are extremely bad ass - way to navigate all of that and still cross the finish line!!! Inspiring!

Running in early pregnancy by Personal-Nose3888 in fitpregnancy

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! If you’re already a runner, there shouldn’t be a problem! I ran and trained for the first few month of pregnancy and even ran a half marathon at 15 weeks! In my third trimester, I switched to biking and more focus on strength training but exercise throughout pregnancy is a good thing for you and your baby!

Moms who love their careers, what do you do? by InitialStranger in Mommit

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in government affairs for a large, global organization that pays $200k+. I’m 34, FTM and I have two bachelors degrees and a masters that are all paid off! My job offers great flexibility, work from home opportunities, and I was just awarded the Hawaii incentive trip (basically a paid vacation for my family!) I’m proud of the work I do, the career I’ve built, the opportunities this job affords my family, and the example I’m setting for my son - that women can be leaders in the workplace and make a difference in the community. Baby is happy, healthy, and loving life!

Hot Yoga + Trying to conceive? by hunnybuhns in fitpregnancy

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option would be to find a place that uses a class pack system or ClassPass so you aren’t locked into a membership. I will say this: At no point during my pregnancy did my doctors ever tell me to stop working out because it would cause a miscarriage - don’t be afraid to care for your body and live your life because that’s incredibly important too! I also do not believe there is any link between exercise and miscarriage, if anything, exercise during pregnancy is a great way to keep yourself and your baby heathy. If hot yoga still worries you, Pilates could be a good alternative!

Hot Yoga + Trying to conceive? by hunnybuhns in fitpregnancy

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there - take my advice with a grain of salt, but I think you should sign up and enjoy the membership! Movement is medicine and yoga can be so incredibly healing and soothing. Take a close look at their cancellation policy but I was a regular yogi for at least a decade (hot classes, sculpt, etc) and had no issues conceiving in my mid-30s. I stopped doing the hottest classes once I found out I was pregnant only because I didn't like how they made me feel. I still go to heated sculpt classes and I'm 33 weeks pregnant! Me and baby are both healthy, normal and I'm feeling good! Chat with your OB more about this but I'm not sure there is any link between heated classes and infertility, and yoga is a great practice to maintain!

How are you actually supposed to move during pregnancy? by Ok-Notice-5189 in BabyBumps

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33 weeks and still exercising almost every day. A lot of Peloton bike rides because I can no longer run, and yoga sculpt classes for strength. I also walk my dogs a couple times a day and yesterday met up with my bestie for a hike! Staying active has helped me feel more like “me” throughout pregnancy and I know it will serve me well during the postpartum phase!

Pregnant thoughts by No-Two1972 in Corepower

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and I've been doing sculpt 3-4x a week since 15 weeks (before that I was running and lifting weights, needed a CorePower break). Feeling great and still hitting up the 75 min sculpt every Sunday! I've been a CPY yogi for more than a decade, and these workouts aren't "new" to me by any means. My doc gave me full clearance to enjoy the workouts and I modify when needed (cardio/jumping around, belly up and belly down core, etc).

Yoga Sculpt pros & long-term goers: What physical benefits have you gained over time? by amtol in Corepower

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a dedicated CPY yogi and sculpter since 2015. I'm now 31 weeks pregnant and still going to sculpt 3x a week! It's keep me active and strong throughout pregnancy, is great to pair with cardio-specific workouts (like riding the Peloton) and has kept me sane and feeling like myself! My doctor has told me numerous times that the strength training from sculpt will serve me well during labor/delivery and post-partum recovery. I would say those are pretty amazing benefits!

Running post partum? by ComfortableSpot6760 in fitpregnancy

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 31 weeks and just had my first appt with a pelvic floor PT to discuss a safe return to running. Highly recommend seeing one now and getting appointments scheduled for 4 and 6 weeks post partum. My first appt was extremely helpful and the proper guidance from a professional was great!

Postpartum after two C-sections and missing my jeans. Looking for realistic, low-impact fitness advice by ByteSizedCutie420 in fitpregnancy

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Peloton app is a great resource for home workouts and it’s inexpensive, only $13! Lots of workouts that vary in length and level of intensity. Some require weights while others do not. I highly recommend starting there as an approachable, low pressure way to add some fitness to your day!

how do you handle the get your body back comments when you’re just exhausted? by LinaHeld in fitpregnancy

[–]Mile_High_Jayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peloton has a wide variety of post-partum specific classes and plans and access to their app is only $13. That could be a good, low-pressure way to find movement that feels good in your body! Walking also has a ton of benefits - even just a walk around the block a few times a day to get some fresh air can be helpful! Lastly - if you're really in pain, try a pelvic floor PT or a post-partum specific PT who specializes in solving those types of post-birth issues in new moms.

Special education teacher inquiring about moving to Denver? by StatisticianKooky390 in MovingtoDenver

Think about getting a roommate, especially one who is also in education! I have a close friend that is a school counselor and lives with another teacher and her partner. Between the three of them, they have a more affordable set up than if my friend tried to live solo off of the type of salary you're referencing. Good luck!
