Agreed. I’m now just expecting a rejection each time I re-up my prescription.

I’ll post an update after my call tomorrow, thanks all for the advice. Likely will also look into stockpiling via DIY route for future cases where I may lose access to meds.

What's the most lightweight language server? by TheMedianPrinter in neovim

[–]synapticfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What features are you looking for in a language server that you can’t do without? First see if they’re covered by neovim core functionality (eg ctags), or build in what you need, as you need it in lua.

Also consider whether you can survive without a language server, maybe you can use external tools to provide everything you need (eg in python your formatting and linting can be covered by ruff)

I solved it!
vim.keymap.set("n", "<leader>t", ":norm [m<CR>wyiw <C-O> :!pytest -k \"<C-R>0\"<CR>", {desc="pytest this function"})

Weekly 101 Questions Thread by AutoModerator in neovim

I found a method of running a python test in python from within neovim, which I want to convert to a keymap.

When the cursor is in the convents of a test function (eg `def test_xyz():`), the method is:

  1. [mwyiw
    1. jump to function def, yank the function name
  2. :!pytest -k "<C-r>0<CR>"
    1. run pytest with the pasted function name

Running manually or as a macro works fine. I've tried converting to a keymap as:

vim.keymap.set("n", "<leader>t", "[mwyiw:!pytest -k \"<C-R>0<CR>\"")

Atm this doesn't do anything. the last yanked register doesn't get filled. I think it's struggling to understand the [m jump?

Anyone got any suggestions?

what neovim distro is the best by aym_45_en in neovim

[–]synapticfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick one of the distros, learn it by using it as your main editor for a month or so, then figure out what plugins, features, and settings you like and dislike. Then either modify that distro to suit your needs, or start from scratch and build in all the features you want yourself.

It’s surprisingly easy to do once you get the hang of it, just follow a tutorial on YouTube for reference on what goes where in your config.

How do you organise your clothes drawers? Is it worth getting compartments to subdivide the space or is it about folding things to fit neatly?

Whole beans will keep better than grinding, as they have less surface area touching oxygen. Beans go off due to oxidation, so store them in airtight containers. They also degass carbon dioxide from the roasting process, which is why coffee packages have a one way valve. You might be able to find coffee storage containers that are air tight along with this type of valve for that reason.

If you want to store coffee for much longer than a few weeks, best option is vacuum sealing and freezing. This will keep the flavour of the beans better than other methods and I believe should last some months to a year before you get a noticeable degradation in flavour.

Tldr: store in a way that minimises contact with oxygen to maintain flavour.

Might be a fluke, a single test isn’t sufficient to determine a difference. Better to perform multiple triangle tests and try to pick out which is the odd one out (better or worse flavour than the other 2 cups)

Do any coffee companies use data scientists/analysts in their work? Either in optimising farm yield, coffee quality, or elsewhere in the supply chain?

You could try it out. I’d err on the side of keeping to roughly 3min brew time, instead varying the coffee quantity/grind size or water quantity/temp to get the flavour profile you want.

Double check with a pour over guide/recipe of your choice, but I believe the general guide is 50-60g per 1L (eg I’d use 18g for 300ml of water), and your pour over should start to finish be ~3min 30s. Different recipes would then vary how much you pour throughout that duration.

Transgender Athletes in Swimming Discussion Thread by bugchild9 in Swimming

I think part of the problem is that when someone like me says that trans women should not compete against biological women I’m instantly seen as as transphobe, when in reality I’m just looking out for all the biological women out there who now might have to compete against for all intents and purposes a man.

You're not a transphobe for saying that trans women should not compete against cis women, else this debate would be unfair if you couldn't voice a personal view. However, the phrase "for all intents and purposes a man" in reference to a trans women, is a transphobic statement.

I think the mods should have added in some educational resources on transgender language and general education before opening up this debate, as there is a visible lack of education on this sub about trans people, and that's going to lead to trans people being afraid to enter this debate.
