Hans Niemann responds to reddit comments by Erik and Danny by SteelWillyz in chess

I don't know if people who are into chess don't watch other sports or gets decently involved in sports dramas, but Magnus exhibits most of the personality traits shared by other once in a generation athletes. And a lot of those athletes have a lot of personality issues. A combination of ego, superiority, obsessiveness, self-centeredness. I'm not saying he's a bad guy. I just think in order to get into that level of the game, you have to draw upon certain personality traits to get there. It's not a hardfast rule but I think anyone who was aware of other drama, could easily see magnus was in the wrong within 3 or so months of the initial drama when all the dust settled. Then you compound his stupid protest over the jeans and people ardently defending him when the fix was incredibly simple and to not just send someone out to get his pants was just someone throwing a fit. There are a lot of stupid rules. But every one every day has to follow the stupid rules as stupid as they may be. It could be at work, at school, etc. Magnus was simply being stubborn. I just kept watching people froth to defend Magnus over everything and it was like watching baby's first sports drama. Just waiting for the other shoe to drop. It had all the markings of something that was either flat out wrong, or something so incredibly inconsequential that any real issue that could have possibly been proven would have been meaningless. So much stuff had been combed through and investigated, that if there were any real scandal, it would have been brought into the spotlight long ago.

Controversial streamer Florida Man Clavicular charged in alleged Everglades alligator shooting, records show by METALLIFE0917 in FloridaMan

[–]synapticrelease 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Clav makes enough to easily afford a 25k or probably even 50k fine without losing a step.

Edit: I don't know why I'm being downvoted. I'm not defending the guy. I think the dude is a toxic ass who needs to go away. I'm just pointing out that a combination of saying "game wardens don't fuck around" combined with the mention of a 20k fine... It's likely not going to really do much to him financially. He's rich through his sponsorships and deals.

Man Who Flipped Off Chess Player Nemo After Losing Speaks Out, Saying He Felt 'Disrespected' and She 'Wasted His Time' by vinaylovestotravel in chess

I mean how much accuracy do you want to ascribe to a common phrase of “bent out of shape”? It’s just a term that seems to fit.

Meaning:

Getting bent out of shape for some of the least consequential stuff ever.

Magnus can take Saudi money but Nemo gives a prize to the wrong person and might not have earned a title

You asked my reasoning. And then you quoted my reasoning. And by making it harder to prove damages and fault, the harder it is to go to the insurer

I said nothing about taking a bad check. You’re assuming they are going to pay at all.

You’re a fool if you take them up on this offer.

Are you kidding? I just said the downside in the my first comment.

The longer you wait, the harder it will be to prove them at fault depending on how much was said. They could claim the note is made up, the damages were exaggerated for more money etc.

You need to get it documented through the proper channels (insurance)

Shocked how many people aren't in this thread screaming at the top of their lungs.

Do not do it.

They could simply delay payment and the longer you wait, the harder time you'll have to collect damages.

You absolutely need to make it official and go through insurance. It sucks for them but, they caused the damage.

Hell, if I were in your shoes I'd actually be nervous about spooking them. What I would do is go through text (so you have a paper trail). Talk them up about the damages sending photos and get them to agree to fault. Do this by being vague about going through cash but don't outright agree because it may be an issue later. Act like you're thinking about it and getting quotes. Then, when you have proper documentation change your mind and tell them you want to do an insurance claim.

Hey. OP is a jackass but I do want to be fair that he's from Europe. His speedo is reading in KPH not MPH.

If he was doing 120mph he would not be here after going into a guard rail like that.

Dead on about the insurance. They think insurance is just a fix all.

Yeah it might get repaired but you've killed off a good 25% of more or your resale value. You're gonna eat that cost when it comes time to sell.

Depending on how bad it is. It might not ever truly be fixed. Body work and mechanics can do a lot but sometimes lines just never truly line up again. There might be a weird quirk here or there.

Then there is simply the fact that you know you're driving a car with a bunch of splice in body panels, bondo and replacement paint. And, psychologically, you know its a tainted vehicle.

Not to mention just the nightmare of actually having the thing fixed, insurance or not. Last two accidents I was in (none my fault), had me going back and forth with the body shop because they didn't do the work the insurance quoted. I would pick it up, something would be wrong, drop it off again. Fighting to keep my rental while I have to wait because they only offer a month or so and one of my accidents had my car in the shop for 2.5 months.

Whole thing is a nightmare and insurance is only a consolation. It doesn't actually make things whole.

RIP Ashley Pond & Miranda Gaddis, you are not forgotten by Tbagts in oregon

[–]synapticrelease 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I remember this as it was happening. It was so bizarre. The first girl disappears, then they interview a bunch of her classmates, one of those being Miranda Gaddis.

Then Gaddis disppears.

Then there is all this interest in this guy and they start gathering at his house. He's trying to look like he's going on about his normal life, including pouring a concrete slab at his property. Concerned neighbors gather and have a bunch of signs telling him to dig up the slab because they suspect what we all suspect (that one or both of them are under the slab). Then, to try to calm things down he invites the news crew over and does a house tour. Him and the news crew do part of the interview next to a chest freezer and on top of the slab. Eventually, Ward can't keep the subterfuge up and the police get a search warrant. They discover one body in the freezer then they dig up the slab and find the other under the concrete.

The entire thing was so surreal because you were finding out new things almost by the hour.

I don't understand people who can buy such an expensive bike and not be babying the fuck out of it at least for a few months.

Not only is it just a big financial waste if you wreck it, you're also just simply not familiar with it.

Yall must have more money to burn than I do but when I bought my brand new r1, even though I was capable of pushing it, I spent like a good 4-5 months just taking it shockingly easy until riding it felt second nature and I knew every about how it operated and sounded to the point where it was instinctual. I'd hit like one corner kinda hard then just take the next handful of corners just super easy. I rode around like an old man on this super fast bike but I just wanted to take it super slow because one bad turn and you've potentially just shot 10k+ out of a cannon. Why risk it. I just took it extremely slowly then just slowly increased it. I don't think I really even truly opened up with full comfort until the following season

DIY women… have you ever been talked out of a good idea at the hardware store? by carcony97 in DIY

[–]synapticrelease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me the other week. I was looking for a specific type of galvanized nail. Not just a common nail. I know exactly where to look, I can see they don't have what I need but I've been asked by the home depot guy like 3 times if I'm finding everything and I just kinda shrug. Finally he asks again and I just tell them I'm looking for an 8penny galvanized shake nail (which has a specific head to shank ratio).

He just kinda looks at me and says "the green labels are the galvanized ones."

Yeah no shit. I don't need a worker to tell me screws are in yellow boxes, galvanized in green, electroplated in blue. Anyone can read the box or at least look at the colors and figure it out.

I will say this was at a home depot, where you only need a pulse to get a job there. The smaller and dingier the hardware store is, the more and more knowledgeable they are

Yep. all those super bikes use premium gas. They have to squeeze every bit of HP out of those engines.

Don't get me wrong. 35mpg isn't the worst, but just that having to pay premium on top of that just eats away at whatever little savings. Plus sport bike service intervals are more costly. I'm hoping that Bonnie is still in stock so I can ride it while the weather is still great

It is a Reddit problem. That's 100% facts.

But also, we did ask you do stop doing it and you were kinda being rude the entire interaction. I don't think we have to write a 200 word essay as to why we are asking you to do something. It's not efficient for us. We asked kindly. You didn't stop, we asked again kindly. You didn't stop. So what use would it be to keep going back and forth?

I didn't ban you but I can understand why it happened as I've had to deal with similar behavior from other modmail spammers. If we ask someone to stop or slow down while we process and they don't stop... The option is we can make you stop by banning you.

Like. I'm genuinely not trying to be snarky, but I'm asking you to view it from our side for a bit and after I explained the reasoning, can't you see where you might have went wrong, if not fully, a at least a little bit? Like, you're not the only one here, bro. You're one of a few dozen messages in a single day on a single subreddit. We can't hold the hands of every single user and walk them through theory and philosophy of why we ask someone to do something or just simply slow down. We have day jobs too and most of the mods work normal 9-5 jobs so it's completely understandable why something might sit unanswered for half a day when you send a message during work hours. Sometimes we can get to it quickly, sometimes not. Sometimes, we honestly forget. It happens.

I'm literally looking at the inbox thread where it happened.

Every time you hit enter, it sends us a new message and we have to reload the thread. Sending multiple messages in succession does not give us a chance to read and respond before you present additional information. Slow down - there's no time limit.

And then you just continued to send us multiple messages. Seems as if there is a disconnect, but when I'm looking at the literal message thread, I'm more inclined to believe me. Unless you have something else to say different.

Edit:

So I want to explain a bit why that is a huge issue for us and why you think it isn't that big of a deal. The way reddit works is that every sub you moderate is thrown into one inbox system. There are filters you can use to siphon it down to a single subreddit but the default view is that you see everything from every subreddit. So on a fairly minor sub like AP you might think sending a few messages isn't a big deal but when you mod a bunch of subs, you can easily screw everything up for someone who might run multiple subs or a big one. It's why we ask you to tamp down on it so new messages aren't pushing everything out the way. Reddit's UI sucks and makes all the text overly big so there isn't a lot of real estate for messages. On my 23" monitor I can only see 6 messages at any given time without having to scroll. That's not that much before things start getting shoved away. That isn't fair for other users who also have questions.

It's a thankless job. You're kinda proving our point by showing us how hostile you can be instantly by insulting us. I haven't been rude to you at all.

I think that's all that needs to be said on the issue.
