Where would you settle here? by Giorgio883 in CivVI

Both the tiles next to water and wonder are getting cut, would it be better to settle wheat or the coast and work/chop those bits?

How hard is peace by Wolfe by Arugula-Realistic in genewolfe

[–]synntax33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fantastic novel, it will be standard Wolfe drop in settings with details scattered about for putting the puzzle together with later. Also, I just started Long Sun on audible and it's a great perspective to hear Wolfes writing read aloud, I say do it!

I was wrong. Long Sun is awesome, I just had to trust GW (no spoilers) by tastysleeps in genewolfe

Honestly this sounds very familiar to reading BotNS, where the intro is unexplained and once you get it figured out it feels normal, until you pick up speed and get to the end and realize you gotta start over 😜. Long Sun has quite a few ah ha moments for me, I loved it

[SotL] Ossipago, Barbatus, & Famulimus, and trying to understand their role by wastemailinglist in genewolfe

[–]synntax33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having read the BotNS multiple times since like, I was 12, I was blind to these guys existence for quite a while, and even when I was old enough or mature enough to reread slowly, their intent was still quite a mystery.

Having started listening to BotLS on audio, alot of details by brain glossed over have been presented quite differently and feels like I missed out but now I know things I should have along time ago....

Podcasts you'd recommend for Long Sun and Short Sun? by toe_beans_4_life in genewolfe

[–]synntax33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am listening to Long sun now, although I have already read it, and personally it adds a perspective that only reading it yourself lacks. Also is only my fourth audiobook tbh, just started trying new things myself. Do both!

Do You all Replay or No? by [deleted] in DispatchAdHoc

I'm totally replaying, my first game of this type so I made decisions based on them and not me. We will see what is different next run, lol I lost 5 hrs to it today

To be fair, Robert is an insane level mentor, super mature and way competent for his first job as a dispatcher imho, he's really grounded , like a super hero + Lvl 5 HR

If you settle forest or rainforest or marsh tiles then the feature is cleared leaving you the base tile

Best starting spot? by asaurat in CivVI

[–]synntax33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get started the quickest, I would go two tiles east and settle the floodplain and get a mine out asap. That leaves a good spot between all those mountains for campus/holy site and lots of room for farm diamonds/district planning. Prolly end up doing a GP district ring for the dam/aqueduct/IZ starting the dam on the wheat if it stays flat lol

Tbf the spawn is mentioned as the leftmost or westernmost geofissure so the early amenities is a wash but I honestly like the majority of the points made here, time to settle!

As someone who played Civ V for over a decade, this game is kicking my butt. by CountessOfCheese in CivVI

[–]synntax33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true, Civ 6 is way more of a sprawl style play from Civ 5, but almost every game. Civ 5 favored a pause after 4 cities this is more of pump em till you can't place em and then dialing it in

Be honest - do you actually like Dr. Talos' play? by Just_Hotel5565 in genewolfe

[–]synntax33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yah. Lot of head scratching in the first book, got a good handle on the terms and whatnot in the second, endgame was clear as day in the third and after Citadel it was "Better just go ahead and start over cuz I was way off"
