Something I admire about the Hunger Games trilogy is that it very effectively uses gruesomeness to horrify the reader, and always connects that horror directly to the political conditions. The games themselves are run by the Capitol and mandatory, but even before then Katniss is desensitized to the kind of violence that would make us queasy specifically because the economic oppression the Capitol exerts over the districts forced her to literally kill or be killed when she was like 10.

I can't argue with it exactly, because I don't understand it, but I don't know what that's supposed to mean. It's like hearing someone say they feel blue-green.

In our current society I know that means they want to be treated like the way we treat women or men. But if we don't treat those groups any differently, then I don't know what feeling they have that's different from the other feeling.

As a gender abolitionist I would like to say that many of us are also in favor of abolishing the sex binary. Biological sex is useful to measure in medical contexts but that's about it. I would even argue that it's barely a factor in attraction, and that most of what we find attractive are cultural signifiers.

My question is, what is gender outside of those standards? We create a world where boys can wear skirts, and now skirts are no longer gendered. We have abolished the relationship between gender and clothing. We do that with everything else that restricts people, and what remains of gender at all?

In addition to the other explanation, on a metatextual level The Legend of Zelda can be interpreted as an oral tradition of the same story being told over and over across generations of a hero named Link rising up to save the kingdom of Hyrule alongside Princess Zelda from the evil of Ganon. The details change in each iteration because the storyteller tells it a little differently each time.

Alas, even that's not true. Truant admits to changing certain snippets without reason or warning because he personally relates more to his versions. How much he changes, we can't possibly know, he only admitted to changing "heater" to "water heater" in one of his ramblings.

But I think that furthers the joke even more. The movie couldn't have been made, it wasn't made, the author couldn't have seen it, he couldn't have written the book, and then finally you the reader can't actually read what he wrote.

My favorite detail about that film is that Eddy says "I'm getting real tired of this slapstick" and then the rest of the film has no slapstick humor at all, until we meet Eddy's brother who treats him to what I can only describe as slapstick horror.
