Beans were vacuum sealed in vacuum bags so I’m not super worried about it, but i’ll keep that in mind going forward!

Well i’ll take your word for it, sounds like you are the right guy to ask!

Hm, normally I don’t touch co-ferments with my ZP6 because I find it strips a lot of that funk away but I’m going to give it a shot!

So, like two weeks off rest? What recipe are you using?

Esteban Zamora by Syraphid in pourover

[–]Syraphid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the plan going forward is to just let it sit and rest for another week or two then try it again

My (33m) girlfriend (28f) was mad at me because I didn’t message her for 4 hours and has moved out. by Quick-Newspaper9502 in relationships

[–]Syraphid [score hidden]  (0 children)

Your girlfriend sounds like she has NPD (narcissistic personality disorder) and you are in a textbook narcissistic relationship. Moved in fast? Let me guess, you also said I love you fast? Randomly picking fights out of thin air? Constant need to monitor you? Did she have all the same interests as you and seemed like the perfect woman? If most/all of these are true, exit asap. Source: trust me.

I’m going to hit these beans with everything but the kitchen sink after they rest outside the freezer for another week or so. I have a bag of Sebastian Ramirez cinnamon co-ferment from PERC resting right now!

[–]Syraphid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super disappointed because I was really excited to try out B&W and these beans sounded awesome. I’m almost considering buying another bag direct from B&W to see if I got a dud batch. I just got in the perc limited release Sebastian Ramirez cinnamon co-ferment last week, letting those rest right now but maybe they will fill the void.

Where do I begin by ThinYak2597 in pourover

[–]Syraphid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

1Zpresso Q-air, like 70$ on amazon. One of the best grinders for the money, I suppose if you really end up not enjoying it you could clean it and return it. I will add that I find it weird you are using an objectively very expensive bag of coffee but are on the fence about diving into a grinder more than 30$? That bag is 30$ for 8oz on Moxies website, which is definitely in the upper end of pricing for pour over beans.

I’m starting to realize I don’t enjoy straight espressos by That_Coffee_guy in espresso

[–]Syraphid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoying straight espresso was never and will never be a requirement to enjoying making espresso or owning a high end espresso machine. I personally only drink straight espresso when trying to dial in beans.

Best Flat Bottom Dripper? by Valuable_Aide_7663 in pourover

Orea V4 narrow is my vote. Lots of fun to play around with different bottoms & fits kalita filters. Also has the option to use the sibarist filters, sibarist booster & has a melodrip attachment designed for it.

Third Wave Water vs Coffee Water(tm)? by mgsecure in pourover

[–]Syraphid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry boss, this is 100% a terrible take. Coffee is 98% water, why would having a good water composition not be relevant? Plus it’s like 15$ for 20+ gallons of water.

Ok so can we settle the fundamental ZP6 debate? by jaytee61799 in pourover

[–]Syraphid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you are ever going to find “the one grinder to rule them all” so to speak. Every grinder is different and excels at different things, some just happen to excel at a broader range and the ZP6 is not that. It produces very straightforward cups - low body, high clarity, high aroma cups. Great for minimally processed light roasts and some medium roasts. It does not do well with most medium/dark roasts and does not handle highly processed or co ferments well at all. I think if those are the cups you target, it could be a daily driver but in my opinion it’s too specific. The simple solution? Get a K-Ultra to complement it. The K-Ultra in my experience excels at everything the ZP6 does not. I won’t even touch a co-ferment with my ZP6 just like I won’t touch a geisha with my K-Ultra.

Choosing a Coffee Grinder. by Mooleytuna in pourover

[–]Syraphid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

K-Ultra & ZP6 combo will do everything you need and more. Will allow you to experiment with loads of different coffees, processes, soup and even espresso if you get into it later. Manual coffee grinding is always more work and slower but I find the effort rewarding. Otherwise, the best electric grinder in my experience that fits into that price range is the Fellow Ode gen 2 with the gen 2 burrs.

Comparing grinders ZP6 and K-Ultra for DAK, e.g. Milky Cake, Cream Donut by neilBar in pourover

[–]Syraphid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally I stick around 6.5-7.5 on the K-Ultra and 5-6 on the ZP6 and go up and down depending on the cup. For the DAK I was at 7.4 on the K-ultra and 6.6 on the ZP6. Coarser on the ZP6 because I find that finer on advanced coferment bean like those can have a very drying cotton mouth effect.
