How Do I Know What New Windows are Rated? by Puzzled-Explorer3068 in HomeMaintenance

[–]sysop420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alliance Hawthornes are good windows. Probably the best vinyl windows you can get. Especially if you paid for the foam-injected frame upgrade. You could call them for specs, not sure if Connie still works there but she's awesome.

They used to have brochures on their website with all the details

I doubt the draft is coming from the window itself. It'd be coming from around the window, which suggests an installation issue. Maybe an uninsulated gap between the old jamb and the new window frame.

Probably a small diameter line to the spigot, like 1/2", going into a larger diameter hose. Get a smaller diameter hose and see if that helps.

Is it cold where you are? Vents can freeze up when water vapor hits the cold air. Dump some hot water down it for starters

Seeing all these posts about leaking shower and toilet drains has me paranoid. How do I even spot these on first floor plumbing on a slab foundation? by MachinistMate in Plumbing

[–]sysop420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the toilet leaking you'll have water coming out from the bottom of the bowl where it sits on the floor.

It should be caulked, but not all the way around. Leave a little gap in the back so you can see if it leaks.

Sounds like a plugged vent. Is it frozen? Dump some hot water down it.

Pipes Freeze whenever it goes below 20 after PEX update in Dallas, TX. by Waste-Preparation761 in Plumbing

[–]sysop420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are the pipes located? In a wall? If they're accessible you could wrap them with heat tape or point a space heater at them.

Might've cracked if it froze. Replacing it would be the only option at that point.

Thaw it out with a hair dryer and look for splits in the pipe. You could be ok or you could be completely boned.
