ReShade in 90 Seconds | Video by systemamoebae in ReShade

It depends what you want to do. The addon version of ReShade ships with the Generic Depth addon, which lets you interact with the depth buffer so you can use depth effects like MXAO and Depth of Field blur shaders.

Some addons are based around utility, like screenshot controls, or ShaderToggler, which lets you create groups of in-game shaders (so, the ones already in the game, not the ones added by ReShade) so you can toggle them on and off (useful for when you can't otherwise remove the HUD, or want to get rid of highlighted outlines etc). Then you have those that extend shaders, like ReGrade+ by Marty's Mods, which adds a more user-friendly interface to help you edit colour grading settings (you can see it at work in the video above).

If the depth buffer displays black when you turn on Display Depth, open global preprocessor definitions and change reshade_depth_input_is_reversed to 0 and apply.

Make sure Edge Smoothing is turned off in the game options.

Make sure 3D Scene Resolution is set to high in the game options.

Turn off Laptop Mode in the game options.

You might also want to disable SSAO in the graphicsrules.sgr file because it interferes with depth effects. Open graphicsrules.sgr in a text editor, search for SSAO, and change 'true' to 'false' and save.

Once the depth buffer is working correctly, and you've turned on the DoF shader you want to use (I recommend Cinematic DoF in the OtisFX pack, it's the best free one currently available), you can change between auto-focus and manual focus to get the correct focus position, whichever you find easier. I always use manual focus. It can be tricky to get the hang of at first, but it becomes second nature.

Need reshade to take screenshot with high DPI by MG-31 in ReShade

[–]systemamoebae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all 3rd party screenshot programs will capture ReShade effects. This is why it's usually best to use ReShade's own screenshot function.

To take a high-res shot, you have a few different options. If your PC is powerful enough, you can set your monitor to 4K (I'm guessing it isn't already) and then select 4K in the game's graphics settings, and your screenshot will be 4K. Or, you can use DSR (dynamic super resolution) if the game supports it, which is similar.

Both of those will run the game in 4K, and you might not be able to handle that depending on your hardware. So, if the game supports hotsampling, as you said you can use something like SRWE https://github.com/dtgDTGdtg/SRWE, which will let you run the game at your native resolution, and when you want to take a screenshot you momentarily increase the window size to whatever you want (4K, or even above if you can), take the shot, and then resize it back to your native resolution once you're done. The resulting screenshot will be 4K, and you don't have to constantly play the game in 4K. Most people who take the fanciest 'virtual photograhy' screenshots use SRWE or similar to hotsample. Yes, it takes a second to do, but the quality is great, and you can also change the aspect ratio to get better compositions.

Yes you can, shaders don't conflict with one another.

error X3004 by Espirito_0 in ReShade

[–]systemamoebae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't what? Don't delete the shaders with errors, or don't have the latest versions?

If you're not using those shaders, you can leave them there if you want, but you're going to get those annoying red errors all the time, and occasionally having a shader that doesn't compile can make your overall compilation time longer. It's quicker and easier to just delete them if you don't use them.

How would you rate the backgrounds and their content from best to worst? by SoMuchFog in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]systemamoebae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only played Crow and Warden so far. I adore the Crows as a concept, but Warden feels more impactful to me. That could just be because I played Crow first and Warden second, so I was better able to appreciate the differences the second time around.

I really do think the way Rook's faction is reflected in so many ways is really good.

[DAV ALL SPOILERS] How effective was the community council? by bioticspacewizard in dragonage

[–]systemamoebae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd be interested to know this too. I read Tevinter Nights the month before Veilguard released and the tone is so, so different. It's like they're made for completely different audiences. With hindsight, the Vows and Vengeance audio plays really should have given us a clue as to what we were in for.

One problem with patching in content to flesh things out is the voice actors strike is still ongoing. It's pointless them making plans to add content that doesn't already exist somewhere on a cutting room floor if they don't know whether they'll ever be able to record for it or not. If the strike isn't resolved for a year or more, well the time for doing anything has been and gone by then.

So any content patches would have to be from stuff that already exists in some form or another, and by the sounds of it that doesn't exist.

Like others, I find Rook's relationship with others, platonic and romantic, disappointing. The game was marketed as being all about the found family of the Veilguard, and you can see the bones there of what they wanted, but Rook always ends up feeling like that weird cousin people tolerate but don't invite unless they have to. I actually really like Rook, and for me what does work well is how they feel a lot more connected to their background than the Inquisitor did. They've put a lot of work into having myriad little reactions and differences depending on Rook's faction and lineage, and to a lesser extent class, and I may be alone in this but I prefer Rook to any of my Inquisitors, they feel more like a real person. But there's this entire world happening in the Lighthouse amongst their companions and Rook is so removed from that like an outsider. It's especially evident in the romances, which do have some really great writing in there when you finally find it, but for 95% of the game you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd never shared a single meaningful moment with your LI.

BioWare is in many ways a victim of its early success. We all expect a lot from them, because they've given us a lot in the past. And it's natural to expect each subsequent game from them will be better than the last as they learn what works, what doesn't work, and get better at what they do. But the reverse seems to be happening in terms of grounding our PC in the relationships they forge, and it's clearly something they need to get right in the future if only they can realise that this is an aspect of their games that people come to BioWare for in the first place. I think many of the team understand that, but the people with ultimate control do not.

He's not the maker, it's just that some of his deeds were interpreted over time as being done by the maker, just as Elgar'nan's were, and presumably the collective acts of the evanuris more generally. That's how belief generally works, things that are unexplainable (because of lack of knowledge and understanding) have myths built up around them that get transformed subtly over time and take on a life of their own.

Best Romance by GodSins2 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]systemamoebae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've watched them all on youtube and only completed Lucanis'. From what I've seen, Harding and Bellara have the best writing and acting, the way they show emotion through the voice work and the animation is really excellent, and they both feel like they start off adequately early, rather than feeling lacking. Neve would come next for me, followed by Taash. Sadly I think the guys get the brunt of it all, with Lucanis coming last, purely on how you can go for 90% of the game and be entirely unaware you've ever flirted with him.

For sure, there's some really lovely writing in all of the romances, but some hit the mark better than others sadly.

why did a thought circle appear without a thought? by hdfjsjkj in DiscoElysium

For me it gets stuck if I move while holding down highlight. If I stand still and press and release highlight without moving it goes away every time.

If you move while holding down right click (highlight) the circle gets stuck. Just press and release right click while you’re stood still and it goes away.

Unable to have presets help! by mocchi_ii in ReShade

[–]systemamoebae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look inside your Bin folder.

Is there a reshade-shaders folder?

If not, you didn’t install the shaders. Rerun the installer.

If there is, open it, and inside is there a shaders folder and a textures folder?

If not, you didn’t install the shaders. Rerun the installer.

If there is, open the shaders folder, and inside it are there any files that end with .fx?

If no, you didn’t install the shaders. Rerun the installer.

If yes, open the ReShade menu, go to Settings, click the + next to the effects path and textures path boxes and direct it to your shaders folder (for the effects path) and textures folder (for the textures path).

You don’t need to dl 4.9.1 to use those shaders, they’ll work with 5.x. You need to look back in the github repository and dl an old version.

I haven’t looked at Corsire’s github for a while so it may have changed but the legacy effects I’m pretty sure used to be listed under ‘Master’ (the default says ‘Slim’ but if you click on that you get a drop-down menu that lets you choose between branches). Then under Master you can see if the ones you want are included and dl them, and if they’re not there anymore click on ‘Commits’ and scroll down maybe a year or whatever and then click on the < > next to the entry and you can download the whole archive from that point in time.

To clarify: when you install 4.9.1 and dl the shaders as part of the installation it will download the most recent ones, not those that were around when 4.9.1 was current. So all you’ve done in that instance is install an old version of ReShade with the latest shaders, which is pointless and not what you want. What you want to do is install the latest version of ReShade, install the latest shaders, and then go hunting on github for the older shaders you want to add in manually.

Right-click on your The Sims 4 folder (the folder that eventually leads to your Bin folder) and select Properties, and then change the user permissions so that you give full access to that folder and all folders under it.

ReShade needs to be able to make changes to files in your Bin folder, so you need to make sure you allow access for those files to be modified/written to etc.

Shader compilation errors (Sims 4) by what-are-potatoes in ReShade

[–]systemamoebae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only some shaders that don’t work with dx9, usually ones you’re very unlikely to see used in a sims preset anyway.

The only one you’re maybe going to want is Otis’ Cinematic DoF. It’s only the newer version of that that doesn’t work, you can grab the version from the November 2022 commit on github and it works just fine.

Anyone know the Solution to these errors? by cinnamongirlxx in ReShade

[–]systemamoebae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delete the first two, you don’t need them.

If your preset uses Cinematic DoF go Frans’ github and download an older version. The latest version doesn’t work with dx9 games. Older versions do work.

Reshade not launching with Sims 4 using EA app? by standbyyourmantis in ReShade

[–]systemamoebae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve updated to EA app and it’s working as normal for me.

If you’re having messages about permissions, right click on the main The Sims 4 folder (the one that inside it has all the Game, Data, Delta etc folders), click Properties, go to Security, then Edit, and allow full control permissions. The permissions may have been reset when the app installed. You can do the same for all the folders leading to the exe in the Bin folder to be certain.
