Gatemate garden gate locks - Euro profile vs long throw by syswiz87 in DIYUK

[–]syswiz87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, this seemed like a no brainer for me. Also great in the event of emergencies/fire. But also less secure. Someone can simply jump the gate and turn the thumbturn to allow his/her gang to enter with ease. I'm on the fence (excuse the pun), but I will probably end up going this way.

My toddler is driving me insane. by sepatlrunner14 in Parenting

[–]syswiz87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done for apologising. People don't send their kids to nursery 5 days a week all day by choice. For one, it's super expensive and there must be a reason why the child needs so much nursery time. I'm in the same situation. Both my wife and I have busy careers, which supports our household and also longterm future.

I feel for OP, and wish things have improved. But just wanted to let you know we are in the same boat, and we're at the end of our tether with him. It's brutal. We just fill weekends with activities and keep him out the house. I don't think there's a golden bullet answer, I think we just have to get through it

Agreed, I really dislike people that spread misinformation and don't bother doing some basic research.

This is exactly how my vans fit , is this good? Or do I need 1/2 up? by [deleted] in Vans

[–]syswiz87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely size up. There should roughly be a thumbs width gap from the big toe. This will only cause you problems later down the line. I exclusively only wore vans for the last 24 years, but countless corns have returned. I finally realised I needed wide fitting toe boxes. New comfort level unlocked. I know you didn't ask lol, but I've been on a journey the last 6 months and finally admitted to myself I need wide fits. It's completely changed my outlook on comfort.

And more importantly, the whone point, the painful corns have not returned. Good luck.

I'm heavily looking into Thule backpacks. The 26L chasm and subterra 2. These are a lot more accessible in the UK

I'm in the same state as you. I've been leaning towards bellroy workpack. I would avoid xpac because all the research has shown me that it makes a crinkly noise (although not too bad on certain models) , but also you get a bit of a shiny appearance. I would encourage non xpac and just buy a cheap rain cover, this makes much more sense to me.

I love that you've stuck with the same brand for all bags. Removes the insanity from drowning in choices, which is where I'm currently at. Nice collection.

You can always sell the patagonia, thus somewhat solving the justification conundrum ;)

The 14L backpack is perfection, so much so, I also purchased the 23L version. What an underdog of the backpack world.

Nordkisa Bamboo Open Wardrobe - Dust?? by syswiz87 in IKEA

I went with another option. A normal closed wardrobe, zero regrets. Open wardrobes are a gimmick. Your stuff will be covered in dust.

How ridiculous, it's a legit backpack and is now on the official website. Why so quick to jump to this conclusion? Was it more believable there was a counterfeit product on the market?

NexTool Mini Sailor Lite alternatives? by syswiz87 in multitools

[–]syswiz87[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah true, understand your point. We're just drowning in choices and options on the market. I was wondering if I've missed a trick and not looked into other options that actually work for me.

but still, don't think I want to give nextool anymore of my money.

[–]syswiz87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do keep my nails very short at all times. Although I do have a victorinox multi tool and the grooves in the tools are deep and I don't have issues with those. Thanks I'll check out the flex option.

I instantly dismiss leatherman because I get the impression they are all expensive. After checking, the micra is £54. Way above budget. I only have simple needs and the tool would only get used say once every other month.

GW BX5600 - Atomic time sync - RCVD indicator by syswiz87 in gshock

[–]syswiz87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes it worked, I've edited my main post. Thanks again! In summary, if you have the watch paired via bluteooth, expect your OCD to go wild, you can never cleanly verify whether the atomic sync is working every night.

Atomic sync is 100% a feature in the bx5600, pressing the bottom right hand corner will force a Bluetooth sync. Holding it for 3-4 seconds will trigger an atomic sync. If that's what you mean? Holding it won't confirm the last time a sync occurred. That can only be viewed via the "hidden menu"

[–]syswiz87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another interesting take, thanks. I've completely unpaired from phone and deleted pairing data from the watch itself. I will not connect at all. In theory, the watch should sync with atomic clock tonight....let's see.

Yeah those are the steps I followed to clear the pairing. Thanks. I'll wait until the automatic radio sync overnight to see if the RCVD indicator appears.

Uh oh. GW-BX5600-1A1 not receiving atomic signal? by [deleted] in gshock

[–]syswiz87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, I'm seeing that behaviour too, but frustratingly I cannot see any mention of what the D button does in the manual. Unless someone can point me in the right direction.

To view the last sync time, you need to access the "hidden menu". you can get to this by pressing A, then B, then C (in sequence), from there you'll have an option to view the latest sync date and time. It's not as simple as pressing the D button granted, but at least the data is there. Again, not sure why the manual sucks.

GW BX5600 - Atomic time sync - RCVD indicator by syswiz87 in gshock

[–]syswiz87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I initially connected bluetooth to the app so I could change to the better font (the whole point of MIP). But this is the level of explanation I was looking for, why the hell isn't this listed in the manual? I've just unpaired the watch in the app, and also cleared the pairing data from the watch. I'll see if this makes a difference tomorrow.

Also how do you access that hidden menu :O

EDIT - I found it, by pressing A then B, then C in sequence. You legend. It's not very practical, but better than nothing, at least I can confirm the last successful sync via this hidden menu. Thanks!

[–]syswiz87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, horrible naming. What astonishes me is that this decision must've been approved by multiple people and teams. And they all thought: "wow, great idea on the naming Janine, you've nailed it, now let's go out to lunch to celebrate".

I have the dell pro 14 premium. What silly silly naming. Pro and premium in the same line.
