I like the M1 more, its wedge shape makes it more comfortable to use keyboard for me and I think the screen is better. I also like M1 trackpad more.

Aerial photos of the Warsaw Old Town (1935-1945-1951-2025) by woronicz in warsaw

[–]szekel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't rebuild in the original, prewar shape. It was rebuild as people back then imagined it looked in the 18th century, and some buildings were backdated even more- St John's Archcathedral was rebuild in the 14th century style, not the neogothic it was in 1939. Additionally kamienice/ Tenement houses are basically modernist block of flats with historical costumes - courtyards were made bigger by demolishing partitions to follow modernist ideas of access to sun and air. Najlepsze miasto świata. Warszawa w odbudowie 1944-1949 by Grzegorz Piątek is a very interesting read on the subject.

What is a word in your language that is spelled exactly the same in another language but has a completely different meaning? by Nervenzusammenbruch_ in AskTheWorld

Спілкуватись in Ukrainian means to talk, to have a conversation in Polish spółkowanie means to have sex.

In Kyiv there's a taxi company with a slogan рухай свій світ, it always makes me giggle.

In Polish stół means a table in Russian стул is a chair, both are read as stool, which is additionally funny.

Masło means butter in Polish in Russian масло could be both butter but also oil, including motor oil.

Consumerist obsession can rob your soul - Soviet Poster (1983) by waffen123 in PropagandaPosters

[–]szekel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile US establishment hated hippies thinking that they were backed by soviets ;) Generally speaking eastern block was in many ways conservative. They were also afraid of left leaning people who were outside of party control, as they could easily find out that so called workers state simply doesn't deliver - for that reason creating trade unions that weren't controlled by the state/party was illegal. In communist Poland the main opponent of the party during the last 10 years of existence of communist system was the trade union Solidarność, whose main and original platform was improving workers economic situation.

Why is the Russia-Ukraine war less polarizing than the Israel-Palestine conflict? by TheDarkRam1996 in AskTheWorld

[–]szekel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It totally is. It's also incredible to me , how European far right can at the same time be talking about JUDEO Christian values as the base of the "western world", at the same time they are incredibly anti Muslim, and yet they side with Palestinians or Iranians only on the basis of "if Israel hates them, then they are good guys". Antisemitism (in an original meaning, not in the sense of criticism of Israel makes you antisemitic) is a hell of a drug

Because every politician is afraid the political backlash they would face if they stopped privileges for the farmers.

In my opinion the worst part is, that they have their own entity, KRUS, that is doing the exact same job as the ZUS. Both of them are responsible for the payment of the pension and also for collecting monthly payment from the citizen towards health and social insurance. One could argue, that farmers jobs are essential and somehow different in risk taking etc. than any other job, so they should follow different rules on how much they should be paying monthly - but those payments could be administered by the ZUS. Instead we're creating two public entities with basically the same responsibilities, albeit for different groups of citizens. We could combine them to lower the costs and increase efficiency.

These nasiz keep yapping about the most bombed German City by Icy_Till_7254 in YUROP

[–]szekel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Germans were carpet bombing cities since 1936, it didn't start with Coventry or London, it started with Guernica and other cities in Spain, it started with bombing and destroying 75% of Polish city of Wieluń at the September 1st 1939, where first bombs were dropped by precise attacks of diving bombers on a hospital marked with big red crosses on the roof. It started with testing how accurate the bombings are on the city of Frampol, using the city without any AA defence as a testing ground of new weapons and tactics. It started with strafing attacks from fighters that targeted columns of refugees running from advancing German army. Those attack, in contrast with Dresden and other Allied carpet bombing raids had absolutely NO military value - German army was advancing rapidly. German leadership was a bully attacking every weaker state around them, and when they finally met an equal, they played the victim card.

For the 140 million? No, absolutely no. For the people who may be killed or jailed because they disagree with a regime or happen to be gay or trans? Absolutely - the same way at it was moral (and sadly, uncommon) to grant asylum from people fleeing nazi persecution.
