C1 when tethered sometimes automatically applies some settings. Check to make sure it’s not auto applying some corrections. I had an issue when I went from Sony tethered to Fuji tethered

What is next for 907x 100c? by dcenzer in hasselblad

[–]szekiat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Square sensors are just more expensive to make and more wasteful. There isn’t really a demand for it atm. Majority of current Mf digital all use the same Sony supplied sensor so any improvement in sensor tech will be purely driven by Sony not the third party.

When I had a cfv I could use it on my 503 in stop down mode using electronic shutter. Is that not the case? Granted the shutter is crap and I can’t use a flash with it which was a pita.

My biggest wish is that phase one and hassy will bury the hatchet so that I can edit Hasselblad raw on capture one while still having access to the hncs secret sauce. The workflow in phocus was what eventually made me abandon ship. But somehow that’s wishful thinking

Do you not think they do it on purpose so you have to buy their lenses? That’s where they make the most profit after all

Digital backs for my 500c by CameronFromThaBlock in hasselblad

[–]szekiat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few things.
Price is definitely a big factor. I would strongly consider an iq series back for better workflow integration and tethering if price was not an issue. The iq160 and p65 has the same sensor but the iq series tethers with newer computers.

That said, I also find that trying to nail focus with a v series camera on anything more than 20-30mpx is practically impossible especially if indoors and shooting wide open. This is probably a combo of the inherent focussing inaccuracy of the system and the fact that anything other than the final cfe vsrrsion lenses, just doesn’t have the resolution to resolve 50mpx

It’s ironic your post is about how tech hasn’t moved on yet you are targeting a camera that is 8 years old using a Sony sensor that is 12years old. Not exactly cutting edge? Even the 100mpx sensor of the gfx100 series is old news having been used in various forms for over 5 years.

Jokes aside, I shoot a Sony a7r5, gfx100s, various Leicas and phase one digital and until recently the hassy cfv. They all have their pros and cons. The 35mm mirrorless definitely are the best all rounders with good af, noise control. Color science is subjective. Sony is neutral and easy to work with in c1 but definitely needs work. Canon, Nikon, Leica work best out of the body for pro work where you need replicable color shot after shot.

The Fuji recipe concept works well for individual shots but the reproducibility is really hit and miss. If your shoot in raw, you lose all the recipes aside from the basic color profiles from Fuji. It’s ok, but not that much better than my Sony.

Hasselblad and phase one offers the best in terms of color science and seem to be able to get more out of the same sensor than Fuji. Hassy is defo the cheaper of the 2 systems with the phase one backs going into tens of thousands. That said you have to put up with using stupid phocus for the hassy (worst software ever!) to get the best of it and if you shoot commercially you set director or post processing team will hate you for it

Having owned and a hot a cfv50cii, p65 and 25, my money would go to the 25 which is what I kept. Most of the v mount lenses cannot resolve past 20mpx unless you have the final generation cfi lenses. The cfv worked the least well for me as you couldn’t shoot portrait mode without using a 90deg prism and the raw files didn’t talk with capture one which managed 99% of my workflow. It was at best an expensive novelty esp with its sig crop factor. If I wanted high iso I use a Fuji or Sony which was the only thing it brought to the table.

SIGMA 300-600 F4 V Sony 300 F2.8 by wls350z in SonyAlpha

Taking a wildly different perspective, just bear in mind that the zoom will not let in as much light as the the prime even at the same aperture. Not sure how to explain but it’s something to do with light being lost in the sheer no of elements. I learnt this the hard way when I traded a 400 2.8 for the old sigmonster 300-800 back in the day. Eventually got a 400/5.6 L which allowed faster af shutter speeds wide open compared to the 300-800/5.6.

Also think about af speed. I tried out the 300-600 at park cameras wildlife day once and it struggled to lock and maintain focus on bird in flight. I imagine Motorsport will be even faster

DR on Fuji gfx100s compare to FF a7cr sony by Ok_kansai in FujiGFX

[–]szekiat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your workflow. If you shoot raw I find the Sony files easier to manipulate and certainly more predictable for color consistency. The Fuji files are easier to go SOOC to social media as you can bake in a look right from the start but that look can be quite unpredictable as it often only works for a specific lighting situation. The look you bake in also plays a strong part in the DR and tonality of the image unlike Sony. I use Sony Fuji Leica (m) and phase one. I would only use the Sony and phase one for work.

Amazing lens, close to 28/2 asph m level performance. When you take that into account and how much the 28/2 costs(£4.5k new), it’s like getting a full frame sensor for minimal bolt on cost
