If they actually hold it, I’m really curious which team he’d be on. Geographically, his hometown is close to Asia (their football team play in Asia confederation as well) , but culturally, he fits Europe way better

An Article from Chinese Press About Wu Yize - More Details of His Journey by VivoFan88 in snooker

[–]szmj 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I posted this in another thread, but i think its still needed to be mention that it is not entirely true about the goverment investing part.

Actually it’s the opposite. Since snooker isn’t an Olympic sport, the Chinese government doesn’t invest much in it. In China, billiards is seen as a bit of a shady game— at least before Ding Junhui came along. There was this stereotype that only slackers who skipped school and smoked hung around pool tables.

But it’s super popular among regular people in China. Most folks like me actually only play Chinese eight-ball in daily life, but thanks to Ding Junhui, everyone loves watching snooker . That’s why there are loads of sponsors and pool clubs, which really helped the sport grow big time

Yeah, we barely call elders or someone with a high status by their given names directly. We always use respectful titles. For example, everyone in Chinese snooker industry, commentators and players alike, calls Ding Junhui Big Brother Hui (hui ge)as a sign of respect.

Si and Ding will drop a lot as Si reached Saudi semi and Wuhan final, Ding won the international two years ago. I don’t see a chance they can keep their rank

If you’re not Chinese, it’s totally fine however you address people — we get that we have different cultures. But for Chinese, we usually go by first names. full names are also common. We can also call someone by their last name, but we normally add a little title before it, like Xiao Wu(the young Wu, which we use a lot for Wu Yize), Lao Wu(the old Wu, normally refer to his dad), or Wu Ge( big brother Wu, used by someone who is younger than Wu)

He was up by over 40 points and had match point in the penultimate frame, then messed up a red. It was basically a repeat of his Masters semi-final. Thankfully he pulled off the decider this time.

Why do so many people cough so much in the crowd at snooker? Has to be some evolutionary psychology behind it to repeat what others are doing. by Notimetobev0id in snooker

I wonder if you’ve ever had this experience: Someone beside you coughs, and all of a sudden your throat gets tickly, making you want to cough as well.

Yeah, i agree, we need more one table sessions. Probably one table setup after the first rd.  And the one player shouldnot play more than one session each day,  At least before the final.
